It was definitely love at first sight for me way back in 1980. ❤ That was 43 yrs ago!! I’m almost 60 & get just as excited as I did when I was a teenager!!! ❤❤❤
This performance means everything to me. It was just so important for me. You know that first song, the one that inexplicably says 'yeh man, this s*** is for you? Well, I was 11 years old when I watched this on 'Top of the Pops' on the Beeb and I remember scrambling to get a tape in the video player halfway though the chorus. For years my panicked recorded version started 'Listen.....red light, yella light, green-a light, go'; so thanks for giving me that special day back x
Tack steve för denna underbara låt och kommer aldrig någonsin att finnas någon som dig mer...du finns I mitt hjärta I evigheter...du hade ett hjärta av guld
Like who hasn't lip sync'ed this song in their life.... past and present !!! But it has another feel all together when the original band is doing it !!! Like just imagine if your were just out of the shower getting ready for your day bobbling along to this great song and then ya look over and there's Def Leppard in your living room doing the exact same with the exception of getting ready for their day fresh out of the shower that is....lol. Then when it's all over let's do it again Men... this time a different song and we'll comeback to that one again.... dammit. Good way to start your day !!!
Charley Dowd..'The Riffmaster' usually recorded with strats and teles in the studio, not sure many know this. Yes this is one of the very rare times he's seen using this modded tele. It is very difficult to see the pick up set up due to the colour of the guitar, am pretty sure he's added a humbucker, not sure but it'd be strange for Steve to use a tele with a trm and not have additional grunt. Looks like a Kahler as Steve usually used a Kahler which he had modded to all or 90 per cent of the Hysteria era but if you want to see the entire rig run down of this rock star who strapped low oozed cool, owned the stage and was the lyrical, musical, melodic, riffing, harmonic genius of this band got to the web site 'Steve Clark In Loving Memory'. For there, as with the Twitter feed you will find the most comprehensive list of guitars and equipment Steve used throughout his career. The above is not seen often, Steve really did switch to a Floyd in the mid 80's before settling on a Kahler and the sounds with his dirty finger/PAF/triple pick ups was just magnificent.
The night this was recorded (a Wednesday for broadcast on the Thursday) The band was also playing Newcastle, I was at the City Hall awaiting their appearance, they arrived on stage 90mins late after getting a private flight up north. I'm assuming most of the bands main gear will have already been at the venue for the gig that night.
I remember watching this when I was 11. I used to record the songs I liked and nearly broke my leg trying to get to the video player at the end of the first chorus; I've still got the recording from 'Red light, yellow light....' onwards This performance changed my life. Lip synching and all!! And Clarkey definitely borrowed that guitar 😂 Thanks for posting this x
It was 1987. It was Top Of The Pops and it was mimes because most artists were asked to mime on that show - especially if they were international artists.
Who ever invented the mullet should be....... Well let’s just say it only looked good or only rocked on Joe Elliot..... The rest just wouldn’t do that hair doo lol. Def Leppard will keep rockin and yet we all knew that some how, We all just really knew that. Thank you Def Leppard for the past present and future with love from Winnipeg to you and all your loyal fans. Know what is weird tho ??? Anyone who happens to be a real fan of this band somehow end up being some of the nicest people you’ve ever met.... seriously.... some people have pointed that out to me. It’s actually awesome as corny as it sounds but the best rock fans are Def Leppard fans.... so raise your kids as Leppard fans people lol. Have a great day or night and listen to great music like such as this. Bye now.

My favorite band. Having said that, this is a performance that they were forced to lip sync. Anyone who’s a fan at all would know that because there isn’t a live version of the song anywhere in the UA-cam universe that sounds like this one. This particular one is identical to the album because it IS the album recording.
Miyagi92 It was a popular thing back then. Fortunately, with the exception of a few pop stars these days, we see it less and less. It’s always a decision by production, never the artist or the management (in most cases.)

Def Leppard is one of the greatest bands of all time and their drummer is missing an arm…simply amazing
It feels like yesterday. Def Leppard NEVER gets old. Awesome music, gorgous band members. RIP Steve.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who misses Steve 😭😔😔.
Def Leppard forever!!! BEST BAND EVER!!!
Saw them the same night this was filmed. As soon as they finished, they flew up to Newcastle City Hall. 90 minutes late on stage, but so, so worth it.

A tremolo?
You mean vibrato bar? Leo Fender got it mixed up back then with tremolo and vibrato.

It was 1987. It was Top Of The Pops and it was mimes because most artists were asked to mime on that show - especially if they were international artists.
I’m pretty sure this was british ToTP and Def Leppard are from sheffield
Why the miming???
On TOTP, artists had to mime.
I like Rick adding backing vocals to a microphone that doesn't work, to a band that's not playing. Good idea there Rick. Smart and good looking
THIS DEF LEPPARD SONG POUR SOME SUGAR ON ME BY DEF LEPPARD IS MY FAVORITE SONG MY BIRTHDAY IS APRIL 29

top of the pops never had any live music it was always lip syncing and pop singles
Miyagi92 It was a popular thing back then. Fortunately, with the exception of a few pop stars these days, we see it less and less. It’s always a decision by production, never the artist or the management (in most cases.)
Well seeing as it wasn't worth setting up all the equipment & doing soundchecks just for one song it was obviously going to be a lip sync version.
Suhkur keelele...🔊🔊🔊😏🔊😂

@Middle Aged British Mother i wouldnt doubt it . i wouldve killed to see them live back in the 80s
that show is shit everyone has to lipsync. I do love old Def Leppard regardless.
Finally someone agrees with me
Good grief! Can you stop putting ‘Live’ in all the titles for Top Of the Pops vids. It’s obviously confusing the non Brits🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️. 🤣
