I totally want to do this on my channel. This is an awesome idea. I've always been intimidated to make an instrument because, people want to shame you for doing it incorrectly. but that bass sounds great. I've been playing bass for 15 years but haven't played in years. lol busy with life/work but this video just opened my eyes. I can make an instrument how I want and screw what other people say as long as I have fun and it sounds good, hell it doesn't even have to sound good lol just have fun... thanks a ton Tim!!!!
Your Bass soundtracks are some of my favorite things to experience. I've played bass since I was 13 and absolutely love hearing you play in these beautiful videos, thank you
awesome job Tim...yea and a completely different " angle " indeed. love all your creativity. 100% to you.. gonna pop into your pages now....thanks again. Jono from Scotland 🏝🎸
Tim, you should be able to rotate the guard around on your angle grinder to provide better protection from those chips. It's usually held in place by a spring-loaded pin or a lever and pin. Being able to put the guard in the place that provides the most protection is very important when you're cutting metals, especially certain tool steels that give off an amazing shower of sparks that really don't feel so good when they are being shot at your forearms and wrists by the million.
I used a similar blade in my woodcarving. Uses long sleeve garden gloves to protect your fore arms. Also if you think: "Yea I can go some more". Stop! you probably have gone to deep already. That chainsaw blade thing was never sold in South Africa. Apparently the rep was demoing it at a show and the chain came off and sliced his arm. Nobody would touch it after that! As I understood it, the chain stretches as it gets old and climbs off of it's housing.
The chainsaw blade is a little intimidating, as is this. I kept thinking about one of the carbide teeth flying off! but I would chose it over the chainsaw, now that I've used both.
Interesting Tim. You are dead right when talking about working with what you have. When you have anything at your disposal, I've found, the creativity goes right out the window. LOve the video.
Good one Tim. Those are some scary fast blades. There is something about this bass that really triggered something in me that I really like and I am not a musical guy. Have a great day!
thanks! If I remember correctly, the proper way to do a sunburst finish is do the whole thing dark, then sand away the middle and do the whole thing a lighter color, then sand away the middle and do the lightest color, but I did it the "I wanna finish this NOW way" :)
I have an older, long form series about it, but it's not filmed well and not a lot of verbal explanation. I have a guitar video i'll be making in probably August that may be interesting and helpful.
I'm an ambidextrous lefty as well & I'd just like to say that I feel a little bit better about also feeling the angle grinder confusion nearly every time I've picked it up so far (which is few). Thanks for sharing that, Tim. =)
Tim sway!! fuck yes.. I had no idea my grinder CAN do this. I use mine for all sorts that I thought I was breaking it. Your video just smashed my imagination forward through the cosmos. Cheers
check out Arbortech. They make a whole variety of power carving tools for angle grinders that are a little less treacherous than this. I did a video for them here: ua-cam.com/video/8LcpqUSCbHk/v-deo.html
I'm a leftie and have the same issues with direction and right handed tools, only a leftie would understand... AWESOME bass, great job mate! (which you play right handed)
HAHA! all us lefties are messed up in our own unique way. When I was 6, I took a few guitar lessons and I picked it up lefty. My teacher said "no, you hold it this way" and I have ever since. I am glad because it makes it way easier to get and swap gear... But my drum kit is set up lefty :)
This one kinda reminds me of what Jerry and Doyle of the Misfits used to do to existing guitars in the 80's before they started making their own guitars from scratch. They'd buy used Rickenbackers and icemen for cheap then carve them up to make them look evil and play them until they broke
SDM Custom Woodworking invented it and I copied him. It helps you line everything up. check out his youtube channel for a video on how and why they work
Received the same discs month ago, but as I so lazy, no video for now... I guess, if i would sometimes build the guitar, I will know how to do that only because of you) Thanks!
I`m not sure, but packaging description is on Russian. If it`s not joke - of course I can. Will be in shop next weekend, can send you translation to your email.
"Use an angle grinder once and you will start looking for things to grind" (Leviticus ?) Woodworking and instrument making and music are all funny in that when you do something there is somebody to tell you that you are doing it wrong. Some things are best when done the best way, like sweeping(sweep a spot then move furniture to that spot and sweep where the furniture was) but sometimes you need to just sweep a little spot and sometimes you want to see if a vacuum works or if you can make a woodshop that can be tilted in it's entirety on its side so that sweeping and finding lost drill bits is easy. Someone had to be first to play new rhythms, someone was first to make a harp with a neck that you could control notes with. The best musician and teacher I have ever known, Chalie Provenza said, "it's music, if it sounds good it is good" If you make a playable instrument, you have done something right!
Safety! Don't change the blade with the tool plugged in like that. You could ruin your day very quickly. I know I sound like a mom, but it's only because I love what you are doing. Keep making videos, and be more careful please. 😁👍
constraint generally stimulates imagination. does this mean the better your workshop is equipped the less you'll make? I saw Jorgen Börg use one of these last week - they're at the right price and it's my birthday in six weeks. anyone? good vid mate, thanks for sharing.
I use an angle grinder with a 60 grit flap disk to rough carve my cigar box guitar necks. The only awkwardness I have is the same as you, being a lefty.
There is a hand problem worse than being left handed... Ambidextrous. Yeah, besides not remembering increasing rotations and such... You don't know which hand to use where. LoL. I am Ambidextrous. Also has enormous benefits.
Wonderful work! GRAFF would like to inform that the SpeedCutter blade is available to buy in a new size 115 mm or 4,5 inch on our website speedcuttergraff.com/order
Thanks! The record pickguards is kind of my "thing." I debated it on this one (vs running the pots through the back) but I decided to do it because I was making a design nod to all the Kooky Japanese guitars of the late 60s and 70s that I love. They almost always had large and ridiculous pickguards.

EXACTLY!!!
Your Bass soundtracks are some of my favorite things to experience. I've played bass since I was 13 and absolutely love hearing you play in these beautiful videos, thank you
wow, thank you!!
Tim Sway......raconteur, luthier, and man about town.
Adam Croker :)
That wheel has some serious eating action! And such a "clean" cut when desired.
Very nice build.
Great build........ Your makes appear possible for rookies like myself to give bungling a go.... Thanx
Gibson "play authentic",
Mr Sway " hold my pint" 🤘😁😂😂😂😂😂
I like the high risk factor. I think you can hear it in the tone of your bass.
Absolutely. That's why I threaten all my guitars with a prison shiv each time I change the strings, to keep them sounding timid and jumpy.
LOL! How did you get the shiv OUT of prison? They usually keep those at checkout.
Greg's Garage prison wallet
awesome job Tim...yea and a completely different " angle " indeed. love all your creativity. 100% to you.. gonna pop into your pages now....thanks again. Jono from Scotland 🏝🎸
Cheers Jono! I have a couple fun ones :)

I love just using a grinder to make a guitar body, it creates really comfortable and natural designs, if not a little ugly. It's great fun too
You should patent that bass shape. It's awesome!
Thanks. I have developed it since then and have a line of guitars and basses like this at newperspectivesmusic.com
🎶👊🏻 even cooler in person! The shape of the body is uniquely cool. Love it
thanks man!

That is AwesomeTim ,I love the Timber
It's called LVL - basically real thick plywood used in construction.
Very cool body shape. Very cool build.
thank you!
This came out really awesome.
thanks Al!
I just recently discovered a flap disc and angle grinder really helps to sand live edge wood. Very cool video Tim!
yes a flap disc is great on wood!
love the pic guard!
Have a great day!
wow, thanks! I have always LOVED weird Japanese guitars of the 1960s-70s (google it, I guess you will too). I was paying a nod to them.
Nice one my friend 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 first time I've ever seen that done..
thanks! Not the most efficient way to cut a guitar, but it works!
Cool as usual. The finish is really interesting.
thanks! If I remember correctly, the proper way to do a sunburst finish is do the whole thing dark, then sand away the middle and do the whole thing a lighter color, then sand away the middle and do the lightest color, but I did it the "I wanna finish this NOW way" :)
I might just paint my cheap electric using this tip!
Nice bass and cool blade
thanks!
Great project Tim. That cutter is crazy! Man, it would be awesome if you did a "basics of building a bass" video. You've piqued my interest.
I have an older, long form series about it, but it's not filmed well and not a lot of verbal explanation. I have a guitar video i'll be making in probably August that may be interesting and helpful.
Cool. I'm very interested. I've got a bass player in the family that I wanted to make a gift for.
Dont you mean the "bassics" of building a bass? Lol
Fantastic...you have got me totally wanting to try this out now!
it's messy but fun :)
Thats pretty cool man!
I'm an ambidextrous lefty as well & I'd just like to say that I feel a little bit better about also feeling the angle grinder confusion nearly every time I've picked it up so far (which is few). Thanks for sharing that, Tim. =)
ha ha! I get comments on videos w the angle grinder from people telling me I'm doing it wrong (which I know, of course :). cheers!
Looks amazing!
thank you!

soooo cool!!! I really feel you're talking directly to me.
I was :-p
cool project!! really agressive cutting.. looks interesting
I'm a leftie and have the same issues with direction and right handed tools, only a leftie would understand...
AWESOME bass, great job mate! (which you play right handed)

awesome tim, they aslo contacted me and ive got some on the way.
You could name your new disk The Tasmanian Devil. Holy smokes! Those things are aggressive!
no kidding!
Coffee with Sway videos.
Nice build
thank you!!
Hallo Tim,
cool bass and i like the vinyl record.
If i heard your bass, i heard joy division. Sounds good!
Great job, great sound! Are those dual rulers a luthier's (sp??) tool, or something you rigged up?
SDM Custom Woodworking invented it and I copied him. It helps you line everything up. check out his youtube channel for a video on how and why they work
I have an old stump in the yard I wonder how long it would take to grind it down with that blade? And I love the instrument builds!
This is the blade to do it, over the chainsaw blade (which costs more). Thank you!
That bass is really nice, but those discs look really scary! Might have to get one of those rascals....
It's wicked fun, but yes, safety up when using it. Thanks!! hey, aren't you coming to the states, soon?
tim sway We certainly are, fly to NY 3rd, then road trip from the 8th til the 17th. Saving room in my luggage for a chunk of oak.😆
I am making a coffee table out of reclaimed deck boards and pallets. I might have it up by this weekend.
You’re a wizard
Received the same discs month ago, but as I so lazy, no video for now... I guess, if i would sometimes build the guitar, I will know how to do that only because of you) Thanks!
Right! You are much closer to Belarus than I. Can you translate the package for me? hahaha!
I`m not sure, but packaging description is on Russian. If it`s not joke - of course I can. Will be in shop next weekend, can send you translation to your email.
Great stuff as usual Tim. Keep it up man. ;)
Disco Stu says that rocks man!!

I love it ! Shouldn't have waited to commission a guitar.
Rev Taylor
cheers! I can make you one :)
Coffee and Sway videos.
me too! (except I'm editing the next one :)
Великолепная работа! Тоже заказал такие диски, скоро обзорчик у себя на канале сниму! Привет из Москвы :)
I need this just to show off in the shop. My boss would lose his mind.
Safety! Don't change the blade with the tool plugged in like that.
You could ruin your day very quickly.
I know I sound like a mom, but it's only because I love what you are doing.
Keep making videos, and be more careful please. 😁👍
As a lefty, I feel your pain!
constraint generally stimulates imagination. does this mean the better your workshop is equipped the less you'll make? I saw Jorgen Börg use one of these last week - they're at the right price and it's my birthday in six weeks. anyone?
good vid mate, thanks for sharing.
Mark McCluney I have found my work is better now that my shop I Fuller, but I feel I had more unique solutions and results when I had less.
Looks kinda cool but is it head heavy?
no. normal weight
after watching video, I said no thanks to svetlana. dear lord, that is terrifying! slick guitar though :)
Phil Pinsky Productions aww, come on! you can do it!
Awesome man, I have the chainsaw attachment and this looks like it might be easier to work with.
Kaged Creations it's better
Far from stupid. You sir, are a genius.
:)
Instantly thumbed up w/ the Dr. Evil clip LOL
ha ha! it was an easy laugh :)
It's probably a really useful tool to cut through plywood
it cuts very quickly, but not cleanly. straight lines are not its forte.
Around 6:04 I was thinking you were building a Bo Diddley style square guitar.
I use an angle grinder with a 60 grit flap disk to rough carve my cigar box guitar necks. The only awkwardness I have is the same as you, being a lefty.
That's what I usually do, too. I'd give my right arm for a left handed angle grinder. Lol
bad ass.
thanks!
your dice remind me of the old Saturday Night Live bit 'wrote a song about it, wanna hear it? here it go.'
I know the bit!
That Was A Great Idea To Use A Piano Key For A Bridge
i totally agree on the lefty thing.. I'm constantly referring to myself as the dumb lefty
sometimes simple things are so hard!
If your grinder and blade ever turn up missing, look for a new Jason movie to come out.
right? what a horrible thought!
Hey! Disco Stu doesn't advertise!!
Hey, I know I promised to sweep your floor when I get over there but Crikey that thing loves making dust! Nice looking Bass though!
I took it outside to save you some sweeping :)
Was That The Ventures
Eddie Etheridge no. not intentionally, at least. I was just riffing pretty generic pentatonic stuff. What song?
tim sway It Sounded Like Walk Don't Run
Eddie Etheridge I'll check it out.
There is a hand problem worse than being left handed... Ambidextrous. Yeah, besides not remembering increasing rotations and such... You don't know which hand to use where. LoL. I am Ambidextrous. Also has enormous benefits.
Interesting...
Hey man! Disco Stu does NOT advertise....
it looks like a metaller mustang
haha disco Stu
"Disco Stu doesn't advertise."
Wonderful work!
GRAFF would like to inform that the SpeedCutter blade is available to buy in a new size 115 mm or 4,5 inch on our website speedcuttergraff.com/order
As a left hander I can say its not just you. Directional things are confusing. We live in a world made for Right handed people
Absolutely! My biggest problem is socket wrenches. While I know which way to turn the bolt, I almost always set the wrench the wrong direction first.
I think the vinyl control cover thing is cool but it kinda takes away from the whole bass. Makes it look kinda bad....
Thanks! The record pickguards is kind of my "thing." I debated it on this one (vs running the pots through the back) but I decided to do it because I was making a design nod to all the Kooky Japanese guitars of the late 60s and 70s that I love. Me Like !!!!!
me like you
You sound like Christopher Walken and Ray Romano's lovechild
believe it or not I have heard that before. mostly the Ray Romano part.
Holy sheepshit batman!
hahaha!
looks like you need a weed wacker blade for your grinder ....Ha Ha
make it extreme (yt channel) made a weed whacker from a grinder, if I remember correctly.
I'm probably one of the first people to see this lol.
yes. you got a sneak peek. this isn't listed yet!
It is now! ;-)
Lefties have rights too!
No lefties do not have rights that’s why they’re called Lefties
I could do better job, no disrespect. Eh, maybe a little.
Share video and pics when you're done, please!
@@timsway Look, Timmy, I can see you take pride on your work, and I dont want to crush your spirit, so maybe tone it down with the sass.
