Very informative. I've only had the Sony A80J for two weeks, and its stunning. Really appreciate your explanation of what exactly the Next GenTV is all about, and even your review of the remote was very good. This OLED is a first for me. For the last 10 years we had the Sony 55" Bravia, which to this day still looks and performs perfectly. I agree with you...this Sony OLED is the best money can buy.
I ordered my self the a80j 65" cause it was only $100 more than 55 but it's going in a small room, i will have the tv for many years and will look great in a living room
great review! i just bought this exact same TV 3 days ago and I absolutely love it! It has so many features, it's like learning your way around a brand new computer! lol I can now really appreciate the "display" button to show the time cause i haven't used it yet or even realized it was there. I ordered the backlit remote a few days ago and expect it to arrive some time this week. This is the largest TV I've ever bought (65")...it's huge, man!! One thing i really notice now is that you can see all the bumps and marks on a person's face when they do a close-up...or sometimes not even doing a close-up. I also have my PS 5 hooked up to it, and the graphics are unbelievable. I set up my "Netflix calibrated" and now Netflix looks much better. The next thing i have to tackle is setting up a different browser besides the one called "internet browser" they offer that i selected. I did set that one up, but before i chose that option i was given 2 or 3 other browsers to choose from. I want to go back and choose one of the others but don't know how. Have you figured that out yet??
Your video made me feel better! I purchased the 77 A80J for my dad for Christmas. Right now he has a Panasonic plasma 1080p. I wanted him to have a tv where he views it for the first time giving him that wow factor! It was between this and the Qled. I heard too many complaints concerning dirty screen and blooming.
i went with the 65" A80J. the picture is amazing. I had to adjust a few settings but the end result is the best picture and color I have ever owned. i think colors and skin tones are better than the C1 because of the XR chip.
@@oooo1110 i also did a lot of research and I can honestly say they only thing I saw the C1 had over the A80J was gaming. and gaming on an OLED isn't a great idea. Sony also has future proofing such as ATSC 3.0 etc. Not that the C1 is bad, but I researched for weeks before buying. The Sony was the clear winner in everything but gaming.
@@mbvx7 Yeah. The C1 has better "gaming features" but VRR and ALLM haven't made any noticeable difference on or off in my experience, and other than that, the pictures and screenshots I've seen of the C1 look very red. Skin tones look like they have this yellow/red tint to them, which looks very unnatural (could just be the camera and not the tv though) so I would go for the Sony aswell.
I was also strongly considering the LG G1 as my first OLED television. I kept going back to Best Buy, looking for it to arrive and appear in the demo area. When it finally got there, I was blown away by the clarity and detail of the picture. But when I was ready to make the purchase, the 65 inch Sony A80J was priced $700 below the G1. And when I added in the cost of a professional wall mounting in my home at around $300, I realized that I would be spending an additional $1,000 just to have a wall mounted OLED. Was it really worth $1,000, just to wall mount the G1? When the A80J looks just as good? Ultimately, I purchased the Sony A80J and I am waiting for it to arrive this Saturday. I feel great about getting the better price, and the television looks amazing from all the reviews. I can't wait to start enjoying my first 65 inch OLED.
Thanks for sharing this. It sounds like we had similar experiences. I got lucky because my neighbor, who had some experience installing wall mounts, helped me get my TV on the wall. Appreciate you watching the channel.

Kudos on your thorough and straightforward review of the fabulous A80J 65". I joined you in purchasing this class-leading OLED. I have used studio-grade color monitors before and am very impressed with the overall video performance of the Sony Bravia OLEDs. I auditioned several other OLEDs before settling on the Sony Bravia XL OLED line; LG, Samsung and Panasonic. Each OLED line has its strengths and since I have family members who are frequent gamers I was initially going to purchase the LG C1. A former classmate with Sony gave me a heads-up on soon to be released firmware updates (end of January 2022) for the Sony Bravia OLEDs to significantly enhance performance and feature set for online/console/pc gaming (i.e. VVR etc)and a couple of other key areas of Bravia XL OLED performance. Great review. I am considering buying A80j for living room but I am consurned about burn in issues over time. I prefer to keep tv atleast 5 years. Can you cover burn in prevention techniques by sony. Also, what was your thought process in buying an oled tv.
You can buy an extended warranty through best buy and it will cover burn in if you want to feel comfortable about it. Regardless burn in is blown up it isn't like people think and hamst been like that since the c7 days I had a c9 with 15k hours on it heavy gaming with Huds and everything no burn in I now own the a90j and ita the best tv I've ever seen especially with added settings these new 2021 sony oled tvs are on another level with how they react to settings lol
I'm not worried about burn-in issues. I think worries about burn-in is a little overblown. Regular, daily use shouldn't be a problem (unless you're running a daily stock ticker on your screen all day). Burn-in should not be confused with image retention. CNet has a very good article on this worth reading if you haven't seen it already: www.cnet.com/tech/home-entertainment/oled-screen-burn-in-what-you-need-to-know-in-2021/ As for my process, I really wanted to see a bunch of TVs in person and pick one that my wife also really liked, so we got to a local Best Buy where we could do a lot of uninterrupted side-by-side comparisons; then I went home and researched a few models that we thought looked good. I wanted to make sure there weren't any obvious/outstanding performance or hardware issues that have been discovered since being released. On the day I made the purchase, I talked to a Best Buy employee on differences between the A80J and A90J before settling on the A80J. I hear you on TV lifespan. I have a Samsung here that's circa 2007 and still works great!
I'm in a NextGen TV market, how would I tell if I'm watching a NextGen version of a channel instead of HD on this TV? Antennaweb seems to indicate the station call signs should end in -NG, but all the stations I see end in -HD on the TV so I'm a bit confused.
You need to have a NextGenTV tuner or a TV that supports ATSC 3.0. If you don't have either of those, then you are watching the ATSC 1.0 broadcast. Many TVs have a display button that shows picture resolution (e.g. 1080i, 720p). I hope that helps.
@@CordCuttingReport Thanks for the reply! I picked up this TV last week, I knew it had the ATSC 3.0 tuner but didn't know anything about it or NextGen until today which is how I ended up here. For some odd reason this TV doesn't have a display button or way to see the current resolution that I can tell. The only thing I can find that I think is related to NextGen is in the settings for channel preferences and enabling "interactive applications for available channels", which lists the same 4 "HD" channels that are supposedly broadcasting under NextGen. There doesn't really seem to be any way to tell if I'm currently watching the NextGen channel or just the regular HD channel, if there's even a difference in how the TV handles it.
I couldn’t decide between the a80j and the c1 so I just bought both lol. Tbh the Sony does have better shadow detail and just a bit more detail but nothing like how people say online. People over exaggerate. Both tvs are amazing but I ended up just staying with the c1 because of all the gaming features. The brightness was a little better on the c1 over the Sony in hdr.
I'm looking at the same exact 2 tvs right now.. I have a old Sony 850d from 2016 and need an upgrade. Watching reviews don't make the choice any easier. The C1 is about $300 cheaper right now
@@numbone in the end just go with the tv that best suits your needs. Do you watch movies more or game more? Sony is better for movies while the c1 is better for gaming but that doesn’t mean that c1 is trash for movies or that the Sony is trash for gaming. Both are great tvs. You probably won’t be disappointed with either
Returning mine: certain tones and certain volumes caused the entire plastic back panel or something internal to rattle and buzz. It was my first oled, and I'm stunned how flimsy they are.
Great review , Just bought an A80J and the image on 4K YTube and Netflix is blurry and has spme ghosting and kind of bummed it's still there after upgrading the wifi to 100 mbps . Greetings from Quebec !
I've never seen the A8H in person, but looking at the specs, it appears to be very similar to the A80J except that it's a 2020 model. Sounds like you got a good deal.
You've brought up something important that I didn't really address in the video. Years ago, software updates on Smart TVs were not so great. Keep in mind that Android TV (which is now transforming into Google TV) has been around since 2014, and it's basically the backbone of Google's new Chromecast and the company's overall streaming/hardware ambitions. Aside from that, other Smart TV makers are well aware that if they don't keep their software updated, people can now buy an inexpensive streaming device and bypass their software. So the game has changed pretty quickly in the world of Smart TVs. Thanks for the question.
Some tips from an A80j 77 owner - the 77 has the better reflective screen (does not alter the PQ like the 65 might) treatment & this set is all about movies/TV/sports...NOT gaming. A C1 is in order for gaming.

Great review , Just bought an A80J and the image on 4K YTube and Netflix is blurry and has spme ghosting
and kind of bummed it's still there after upgrading the wifi to 100 mbps . Greetings from Quebec !
I don’t have that issue at all. I would return it or rma it
I just got the Sony a8h for almost half the price for 55 you think the a80j is a big jump?
I've never seen the A8H in person, but looking at the specs, it appears to be very similar to the A80J except that it's a 2020 model. Sounds like you got a good deal.
@@CordCuttingReport sounds good thanks
@@aja2834 The A80j IS A BIG JUMP!!!
How about watching in very bright room !?
Oled aren’t meant for bright rooms that’s led strength
So are we going to have to buy a new TV every two years??? The manufacturer only update software for two years, after that your screwed...
Please review sony x90j led tv.
Some tips from an A80j 77 owner - the 77 has the better reflective screen (does not alter the PQ like the 65 might) treatment & this set is all about movies/TV/sports...NOT gaming. A C1 is in order for gaming.
I have my a80j only for my ps5. This Combination is better as my Last Combination CX With ps5
Depends what kinda gaming I’m pretty basic madden read dead etc works amazing! Even without vrr it’s great
Why don't you just buy the backlit remote? Isn't it like 30 bucks?
I’m surprised he didn’t mention this. The remote is actually $82-85
@@BrainwavezzAdviceTopicsLLC He talks too slow and he ran out of time.
How to screen mirror??
Inbuild chromecast
That's the standard Sony remote.
