I like that you can actually see him drink and enjoy the whiskey. Many channels on this topic probably spit it out immediately after the sip it.You can tell when it’s a cut scene after they sip it
Interesting observation. I will need to look for that on some other channels. For me, I am enjoying a dram with whoever drops in. Hard to enjoy if I am spitting it out! Cheers!
I reviewed this as well. I bought a pretty cool sampler box of different Compass Box expressions. I enjoyed them all. Compass Box does push the envelope.
Great review as always WN ! back in 2005-2006 , we got some inaugural bottles (with label : tree is inside a blue square box) for 55$CAD at LBCO, the the fight broke out about "vatted" adjective in Scotland, then it stops for a few years for re-labelling. It came by with YOUR new label with intricate drawing fo r85$CAD +++ . . .
Thanks! Prices seem to be continuing to move up. I think this is a great release, but I am wondering about the new one, with the different Highland blend. I will certainly pick until up, as I know John Glasser can about a whisky together. Still, change is tough! Cheers!
I really like your pleasant reviews and video formats. I've found most reviewers (albeit great in their own right) don't do those very much needed comparisons with another branch bottle to the one being reviewed .. which you do, so I love that touch!
Thanks for the encouragement. I started doing a shorter comparison in my videos a while ago and I find I really enjoy it for my notes and experience. Take care!
Jon you hit the nail right on the head with the Spice Tree and the Clynelish 14. Excellent both of them but I would choose Clynelish 14 by a bit if I had to choose. Prices are about the same too.
These guys are Masters of Alchemy! Fabulous presentation, always. Wish I could afford the Phenomonology, but it's just too expensive. Not members of SWA either, so happy to support them. Enjoy your long weekend, Jon 🥃🥃 Marian 🇨🇦
Thanks for the review, Jon! I really like Compass Box and Spice Tree (but their Artist Blend maybe even more so). I wonder why John Glaser is changing the Highland Malt Blend, maybe Glen Moray/Tomatin/Balmenach give a better deal? I hope you can get your hands on a "new" Spice Tree and do a re-review / comparison? That would really be interesting!
Glad you could drop in! I think the change is exactly that, either price or availability. I have a lot of faith in John Glaser and company so I am reasonably confident the next release will be good. Great idea to do a side by side. I hope to when the new one comes out.
I've only had the Great King St artisans blend and gave it to a friend...it was too bitter for me. I tend to enjoy sweeter whisky. It did have a great mouth feel though and my friend thoroughly enjoyed it. He doesn't like Cragganmore though Wich I Love!
@@WhiskyNeighbour thanks Jon! Was trying for a Canadian whiskey too. Most appear entry level (inexpensive). Any thoughts on Dillon's single grain rye, Gibson's Finest Sterling, Barrelling Annie or Signal Hill? thanks again and cheers!!
Great review Jon! I love this one. I always recommend it to bourbon drinkers who want to venture into scotch. Sadly, the price here in BC has crept up to $99.99 + tax! 😭
Good to know about the recent change to the Highland blend they use as a base for so many of their bottles. 60% Clynelish 20% Daluaine 20% Teninich is the classic blend. Been a few years since I had one, should pick up one while the classic is on the shelf. For me this is US Thanksgiving dinner in a glass so a great Fall bottle. Cheers
I love their labels really is a piece of artwork. Prices is what has kept me away from purchasing a bottle. But I should try some of their more affordable bottles first. I read they’re coming out with a new bottle something called blank canvas or something like that. But consumers will get a chance to design their own label at home and slap it on the bottle. I’ll probably grab one if it isn’t too much lol. Cheers Jon 🥃
Clynelish 14 is roughly $20-$30 more than Spice Tree, and I can sense it in Spice Tree. Clynelish is still the better bottle… but that being said Spice Tree does a great job of coming close but giving you that French oak burnt slice note that I normally associate with heavily sherried malts. May have to pick up another bottle.
@@WhiskyNeighbour It may still be unchillfiltered, at 46%, I once got a bottle out of a cold storage, and there seemed to be very little flakes floating around in it. Not sure.. chill filtering is kind of standard Diageo practice. Still a great malt tho, Clynelish is my favourite.

Yes, and I love their transparency. Cheers!
Excellent complex dram at a low price :) And good call on the Clynelish, John Glaser sure likes his Clynelish ;)
It really is so tasty! I will buy at least once; anything John Glaser puts out!
I actually had this one in my hand a few weeks back but didn't buy it as I didn't know enough about it. Now I do!
Have a great long weekend, Jon!
Thanks Ray. This is a fantastic dram for my palate. Hope your weekend is wonderful too!
Two of my favorite Scotches. Both are so pleasing and rewarding. Another great review!
Glad you enjoy these too. Have a great long weekend!

Clearly I agree, just great whisky from a solid group of people. Cheers!

Very interesting, and a great reminder of personal palates . Cheers!
Spice Tree always sounds interesting, but that Clynelish 14 is tough to beat, isn't it? You're going to need a bigger bottle. 😛 Cheers!
I am indeed! Thanks for dropping in, I hope you have a great weekend, cheers!
Nice review Jon. I noticed it in the Duty Free here in Niagara Falls (Can side : ) for $46 usd. Nerver tried but sounds well worth it. Cheers!
For me, Spice Tree is a fantastic malt
@@WhiskyNeighbour they have the Peat Monster too, same price. Stick w Spice? 😁
@Phil C I think spice tree is a better dram, but if you are craving peat, clearly Peat Monster would be a better choice. Cheers!

@Phil C Dillon or Signal Hill for me. Dillon is spicier, but if you enjoy sweet, Signal Hill is well made. But very sweet for me.

Thanks! That is hard to hear about price, but seems to be the nature of the liquid we enjoy. I hope you have an excellent long weekend, cheers!

Yes, great tasting connection! I look forward to trying their new blend, but I am a little sad this one is going away.

I hope you can find one of theirs for a good rate. Cool label idea, except I love their art and certainly better than anything I could do!

Well said!
Clynelish has E150 caramel colouring added to it, not an 'integrity' malt (it's mentioned on the bottle of the European, German release).
Oh no! I was sure it was non-chill filtered and un coloured. That is hard to hear. Thanks for the information
