Once I heard his voice, the electricity of the game was sensational. In the middle of the chaos in front of the net my favorites were - "What a sport!", "I DO love this game". I live in Hershey, PA now and know Doc has roots here with the Bears. But, his heart was with the game and hockey really is one of the last highly competitive and pure sports left. Doc was a huge part of defining it on TV for us. Thanks Doc. And... NBC, you have assembled one of the best line ups in sports with your NHL Coverage. Hope you have the courage to bring Mike Milbury back.

Best wishes in all that you do in retirement. Your calls will live on forever ❤️.

Doc is simply the best (though I miss Gary Thorne's voice too). Thanks for making a game I knew nothing about (since I grew up in the South) and for making hockey sound brutally elegant and "sophisticatingly" simple. Your retirement reminds me that my own end is coming sooner than I'd like and I best start doing those things I have spent decades promising to do. Best wishes, Mister Emrick.

Literally crying right now - Doc is one of the few who can really bring out the spirit and the passion of hockey. For a man who has never once laced up skates he has always had a nack for showing what about hockey makes it akin to an art where everyone who experiences hockey, can feel it in their soul - he truly fell in love with the game of hockey and he was happy to share it with everyone who touched the game.
Liev Schreiber said it best last year in an NHL Commercial: "While hockey begins as something you watch, what it becomes is something you feel.

Happy for ya Doc! I was so happy a few years back that HBO Sports highlighted a bit of your career, passion for hockey and that impeccable improvisational verbosity you applied to who, what, where, why a puck, player, etc was behaving. I am grateful to have decent vision, but if I ever did lose my ability to watch the game I know I can still see some vintage hockey perfectly. ESPN’s abandonment of all things hockey could have proven to be a disaster for the growth of the NHL in the States. We have you to thank as much as anyone in media for the NHL today. Be well! ...and Go Flames Go...eventually

Thank You Doc for the amazing time. You will be unforgettable part of my journey with watching professional ice hockey. Wish You all the best, rest, live long and enjoy well deserved pension. Though, I truly regret never hearing Your comment again. 😢😢😢 Big credits to You - You deserved for the most noble place in the ice hockey history and even among such stars like Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, Bobby Orr You don’t need to feel ashamed at all.

Though I never got to hear him call my team win it all... and by the looks of it I'm still gonna have to wait a lil while to see them win. I still get chills no matter what call it is. Something about his voice just strikes the emotions so well. Thank you Doc

I remember first watching and hearing a then "Kid" Doc 35 years ago around 1985 when he was the regular sub for the Flyers filling for another NHL HOF Broadcaster Gene Hart. I was raised in a High Rise Condo Apartment in Brooklyn, NY and after sunset would pick up Flyers, Sixers in the NBA and Phillies MLB games on the local Philadelphia UHF stations.
So I have known Emerick for most of my time being a NY Rangers fan and following the NHL. Congrats on a great career and enjoy retirement. Not often when Internationally Known Sports Commentators such as Doc is as well respected and never have a bad word ever said about them. Professionally or Personally.

That was my first exposure to him as well.....late 80's Flyers games. What a terrific announcer and a class man as well. Doc could make a Buffalo-Ottawa game (to choose two random teams) in January feel like you were watching the Stanley Cup finals. He will be sorely missed but hope he enjoys this next chapter in his life. Goodbye and God bless you Doc!
