Dynamic island is basically notification banners that stays accessible on top as a notification icon, vs banners that disappear permanently. So that "island" has been in android ever since. If there's a mistake here, it's calling this feature "dynamic island" because dynamic island is apple's excuse to its large punch holes. Android's version is NOT an island. Android already shows notification icons on top ever since, it's just made more usable via long press to show the notification banner. And it's still arguably a good feature because i can see my timer right on top.
