Nice video. Thanks for posting. We have the same obd2 Australia Bluetooth dongle in our Ranger. Saved my bacon driving through deep puddle on Moreton Island - got stuck in 2nd gear low range. Turned out to be an issue with the mass air flow sensor, which I cleaned & dried out, then it let me clear codes and all ok. Certainly good insurance!
Those lithium jump packs are cheap insurance as well, worth carrying on in the glove box. Glad you got it sorted, it's pretty stressful when your car goes down in the middle of nowhere
I had a similar problem on my BT50. Plenty of voltage in the battery, and jump starter, but still no start. Turn out to be there are two nuts on the +ve battery terminal, the lower one which secures the starter cable was not tight enough. The upper one secured some accessories which all worked. Over time the starter cable was arcing ever so slightly causing a poor contact. I saw the arcing one night when it didn’t start. Cleaned up the terminal, torqued it down properly and never had a problem since.
Thanks mate! I'll take a look at that after breakfast 👌 I ended up finding the wiring running to my bcdc had rubbed on the body and melted abit so potentially that was draining the battery 🤷 i fixed it up so hopefully won't have any more issues 🤞 Cheers
I subbed, love the way you both tell your story and take me along via UA-cam on your adventures, thanks for the share and glad everything worked out 👋💯😊
G'day Guys, been following for awhile and lov the content. We had an issue with our Ranger on our last run that ended up being water in the fuel, thankfully we had service and full roadside assist , so wise words to say have it, saved our Bacon 👍👍👍Sat Phone is an absolute must if off grid so wise choice again ✅✅✅ Keep the great stuff coming Cheers Andy
Hey Andy thanks mate! Yeah it pays to be well prepared for the worst. Things don't always go wrong but when they do your glad you had a plan in place 👌 Cheers
I think modern cars are pretty sensitive to low current throwing faults even when voltage seems ok. I would purchase a multimeter and quality fused jumper leads. Get an auto electrician to check your battery condition and alternator. Also check for ghost current draws when ignition switched off. An after market quality higher capacity battery upgrade is also helpful if you are running accessories and dcdc chargers etc
Yeah its taken some getting used to, we started the trip in a 1988 model patrol and changed for abit more comfort but all the sensors and stuff are very new to me lol Thanks for the info Paul, will definitely look into all of the above! cheers mate
I love watching your trip and seeing you in action. You are doing such a great job and your videos are always interesting and enjoyable to watch. I love your selection of music, so beautiful.
Did you end up diagnosing the fault? Is the alternator still charging correctly? You mentioned you had an aux battery that you could link together I'm assuming via a switched relay? Why didn't that work? Was the aux flat also? Keep the great content coming guys Cheers
Havnt diagnosed yet as such but I did find a few things and it hasn't happened since. First thing was the wire running from my main battery to my redarc bcdc has chaffed on the body and accualy caught on fire (all the insulation was burnt off the wire for about 200mm, so I cut that out and repair it. Could have been that? I also removed the redarc solenoid that I was using to link the 2 batteries to jump start as I don't think it was working correctly anyway so could have also been that and the rac bloke that came out to jump start us said that my auxiliary lithium battery won't crank my main battery anyway? Not sure on that one but so far soo good 🤷 Cheers for watching mate!
Thanks Sue, I'm fairly sure it was free when I got it but I've just looked it up and it says it's $4.95 🤷 I would still buy it for that anyhow its a good app and it's just called Torque Pro. Super handy to have!
