  • I bought this kit on Amazon UK to clear a partially blocked drain pipe and get rid of a bad smell. What a brilliant bit of kit! The Karcher PC15 Pile Cleaning Kit is a great addition to your Karcher K series Power Washer.

    Hi anyone cleaning drains should wear, gloves mask and protective clothing, I did a job at home, wore gloves and overall, a couple of days later I developed Acute toxoplasmosis, not funny I had flu symptoms for about 6 months. Consultant
    reckons it possibly came from air born vapour from the pressure cleaner doing the drains, so please take good care of yourselves guys.

    Thanks Russell for an inimitable review, you sold me on the kit. OK, we all take on board the ppe comments, I think karcher should carry a warning on the box and indeed include the necessaries in the box, unless they already do so. Well done for taking comments on the chin and at the same time keeping your good humour. Cheers to you and your trusty helper. 😊

    I used this pump to replace the pump on a Ecell 3100 PSI pump. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxEU8wdEWW31diRsOawsCNfWEho39M27qd The model # is PWZ0163100.02 for those looking for a matching pump. It went on very easily - 10 minutes at most. Feels like a lot more power than the original but that's to be expected. Can't tell a difference when cleaning with the wand or floor sprayer. Would recommend as it was cheaper than most I found. The maintenance free aspect is definitely a plus too. Have used it through about 6 tanks of gas and have zero issues so far.

    Thanks Russell. I think we all fall foul (!) Of not using using PPE but this video is really helpful and does what UA-cam videos are supposed to... 1) should I buy this kit and 2) how to use it. Also nice gaff ! My drain system is about the same age and rods don't flex sufficiently to unblock so this should work for me 👍

    They work, i bought one, 7.5 metres long but too short, they work by blasting a water jet backwards thus pulling the hose in, there is no need to force the hose in just pull it back a bit and let it go again using the pressure of the karcher, magic.

    You can also "pig" the hose. Make a circle in the hose and turn it so the nozzle will turn and allow the jets to clean or cut the blockage more effectively .This also helps get it around bends, as the nozzle will always push to one side of the pipe.
    Good job too, i never wear gloves either, but I am used to it. It's the grease and fat when it get in your skin and your hands stink for a few days that annoys me.

      It's best to work form the main up the other way otherwise you are putting more shit down and potentially causing it to block further. The wash then keeps the drain clear as it progresses up. Not cleaning all the way to the main in the road can dislodge soap scale and cause a blockage that is then hard to clear if you have large sumps in the system.
      And before the trolls start , yes I've been clearing foul drains for over 4 decades, and yes I've got a jetting rod too...

    Good video! You say it's difficult to operate the gun and the water tube, I had this problem too and solved it using a rubber band or you can use a clamp: I insert the water tube, and then fix the gun with a rubber band, tighten it and I am free to operate the water tube without needing a third person.

    • @RussellPlatten
      @RussellPlatten  6 років тому

      +Rodolfo Di Maggio Yes Rodolfo, it is awkward to operate and your ideas will allow one person to operate the pipe cleaner. It is not the safest way to carry out the task, but there are safety implications operating it whilst trying to press the trigger too. As you mention, inserting the jet well into the pipe will make the task much safer. Thank you for taking the time to comment. :-)

    We have one but found after awhile the out shield with the word Karcher that goes around the inner black pipe Split and Tore, this was due to when you send the Karcher hose up the pipe as you are rodding the pipe with the cable it is rubbing against the top of the pipe causing it to fray.

  • @johnpatterson7140

    Always block the down stream pipe, a sandbag is helpful as it blocks the flow and you can collect the debris from in front , and tie it off just in case !

    I got to tell you i managed to clear a blockage with it today. Took me some hours but it worked. Very happy with it. The hose was just long enough to reach it, it was fully in. So very lucky.
    Just feeded in the hose as far as possible and then put the 150 bar pressure washer on. I didn't force it in but let it work itself through the blockage and pulled it a meter back sometimes when it stopped. Also cleaned the rain pipes with it the were very dirty! I used hot water 60 degrees i don't know if this is better then cold? After all it's a calculation what is the most efficiënt or cheapest do it yourself in a few hours or call some professionals who can it in half an hour.

      There is a maximum distance between inspection covers allowed by building regulations so in theory these things should always go far enough, even if it seems it's only just far enough. It's also worth remembering that any shared sewer is actually the responsibility of the local water authority.

    Good idea to use a disposable plastic poncho and a disposable mask will help too. Drains are full of loads of bacteria, maybe certain viruses, last thing you want is to develop an illness or the person handling your dirty laundry. In Australia we have different drain systems, we don’t tend to have man hole covers, rather we only have access points on each different pipe connection that has a y type junction fitting inserted with a screw off cap. The waste water pipe comes out of the wall the y junction is fitted just below before the pipe goes down below ground level. Watching your video of the fat deposits makes me wonder how efficient the Roman’s homes waste water systems worked over time, as they didn’t have the luxury of todays modern portable electric powered high pressure water gerni.

      +Arthur Neemes I gave a hook for the cover with the slabs and just a large flat headed screwdriver to prise the other open. Both are a bit fiddly.

    If you are long enough in the business there is only one thing you always should protect and that's your hands.
    After years I got totaly immune for this kind of hazard.

    Can this hose bend into tighter turns. I read that it cannot make basic small turns from inside a main downward pipe to a horizontal running one. Any feedback on this? And has anyone used this with the K2.0

    • @RussellPlatten
      @RussellPlatten  6 років тому

      I think it would struggle to make a 90 degree turn at a T piece without the bend in the pipe to guide it. You might get lucky, but it depends on the radius of the turn. :-)

    Well, even if the execution of the actual job could have been better, the video has been made interesting and entertaining by the narrative and the editing. Also I just love Russells accent and his "trusty helper". Well done, mr. Platten.

    You don't have to hold the trigger all the time you could put the trigger on automatic and you can use your both hands for the line.

    • @RussellPlatten
      @RussellPlatten  6 років тому

      There is no 'permanent on' for the trigger, it is a safety feature. :-)

    I know that there are many comments about how you should wear gloves, but you really, really should wear them. It's not just dirt, there are 'things' you don't want to touch and lord have mercy if you would touch your face/eyes after this....

    So theres an open sewer line right there underneath your back porch? All thats covering it is a panel? It's right by the back door to your house, doesn't it smell sometimes?

      No Miles, there is a toilet connected to it, but it only gets used once in a while. :-)

    Could this also work with defrosting a frozen water pipe. My frozen pipe is 4m long, so you could also push this Karcher pipe in it. I would use warm water.Whats the diameter of the steel head from this Karcher pipe?

    Jets backwards so once you are out far enough, pull back super slow, you have a low water low psi, but regular size build up..just go slow work on twisting your hose so you get it washed out well..it helps to let water inside run while you work..maybe fill a tub or washing machine and drain it while you jet..???
