    Well done great job of showing and explaining the process. I didn’t know prime still had manual transmission trucks

    I’ve found that after shifting, if you wait for the liquid to roll to the front of the tank and then all the way to the back bulkhead again before hitting the accelerator, most of the surge is eliminated. Also taking exit ramps or just slowing quickly, I heel toe the downshifts to hold the wave against the front bulkhead. It helps your back and neck tremendously.

    That's because the tank is not full. I haul raw milk. The first 4000 gallons you barely notice. 4500-5500 will knock the living hell out of you. 6000-6200 you barely feel a thing.

    Loved the ending. "Got to love 4wheelers"

    the first time i ever felt the surge i was having second thoughts on pulling a liquid tank then after a couple weeks of getting used to it it wasnt even an issue.

    Is the slosh when you are driving in the mountains or on curvy roads real noticeable

    Papermill liquids 5000 gallons in a 7500 gallon tank is a lot of fun. But sulphuric acid which is usually hauled in a baffled tank when hauled in a shotgun tank will almost knock your brains out of your head. Yee haw. Like your videos driver thinking about coming over to prime

    • @vflrockytop
      @vflrockytop 5 років тому +1

      Yes. I pull glacial acidic acid in a smooth bore. It's by far the hardest liquid I've hauled

  • @vflrockytop
    @vflrockytop 5 років тому +1

    Yeah our company thought it was a great idea to put in cab cameras in our trucks. I pull smooth bores. The surge will sometimes set the camera off.

    I saw in one of your other vids that the trailers are already loaded so I take it the trucks aren't set up with hydraulics & I'm assuming they are already weighed correctly for scales

    • @JohnOgren
      @JohnOgren  8 років тому +2

      Yes, everywhere we load, they either load us while on a scale, or they have a scale on premises so we scale empty & loaded. As far as hydraulics - yes, we have a hydraulic PTO pump on the truck, but it's almost never used to load the trailer. Mostly because the places that ship can load us so much faster. We use the pump about 50% of the time & our customers have their own pump about 50% of the time. There are rare occasions when we gravity unload (less than 1%?). Thanks for watching

    Wow, you can actually hear it. Not easy to be a tanker driver.

    Pulled a gas tanker 20 years ago. The rule with a compartmentalized trailer I was trained, is to load the front and rear compartment full, and take up the difference in the middle. Diesel being a thicker viscosity than gasoline, would give some surge. Gas, not so much. Does the pump on the truck have to be flushed and cleaned to prevent cross contamination ?

    • @JohnOgren
      @JohnOgren  8 років тому +2

      Yes sir, our tanks, pumps and hoses are washed between each load. There are a handful of exceptions where some customers accept top-loaded trailers with the same product, but for the most part, they're washed each time. Thanks for watching!

    How many miles till you come to your first stop to off load is there like a rule of thumb off load less then 200 mins also why is it un bathel???

    • @JohnOgren
      @JohnOgren  6 місяців тому

      Depends where the customer is. And unbaffled because it's impossible to sanitize the extra surfaces, which is clearly spelled out in the CDL manual.

  • @grimreaperbadboy
    @grimreaperbadboy 8 років тому +2

    our food grade tankers have half baffles in uk

    • @JohnOgren
      @JohnOgren  8 років тому +4

      How, exactly, are they able to clean the insides properly? Eliminating baffling reduces the amount of surface area & small nooks & crannies that are most difficult to sanitize.

    • @grimreaperbadboy
      @grimreaperbadboy 8 років тому +1

      +John Ogren the bottoms of baffles have a gap underneath and on man way lids with have two most of time there rotating arms built in like a dish washer we connect two pipes to tanker 1 injects the feed water/acid to clean the other is used as waste which is sucker out by pump on site of cleaning we call ours cip in the UK when we offload at dairy for instance we offload at first station then pull forward to cip cleaning station bit like a petrol station set up
