    Why I wished they showed it? Cause it would be good to see Patrick actually look hurt by Lisbon's words instead of laughing it off most of the time. Seeing him look serious when he told Rigsby to pull over, was definitely a change.

      He was upset by this false John. And he's upset that they didn't believe him.
      And he really wanted to be begged. There is still a child inside.
      Lisbon saw through him and he could no longer go to the airport.

      Exactly what I think. The show is always suttle about how much Lisbon knows him and how much he cares about her, this scene the proof. Lisbon's honesty is great and she is the only one he ever listens to cause he trusts her, and I love to see him showing how he is affected by her words cause we don't see much in the show him showing that although we know by how they get along and the small gestures and results. So it's nice to actually see it.

      Because this much antagonism between the main characters in the Pilot is unnecessary and entirely distracting. Whether its true or not doesn't matter. The show was fun and lighthearted from the outset. To add this sort of cynicism and darkness wouldn't have really worked.

      +Vicky Blanco she wasn't honest, she just said it out of pride. the fact that she called him asking him back to the team afterward shows that she didn't mean it

      +Vicky Yellowstone eh no she wasn't, the entire show was about her accepting to take blame for jane's mistakes. she covered for him when he addmitted killing the wrong red john and when he hired a thief to break in laroche house. she old him once that she knows working with him will get her fired someday and she's ok with it.
      in nutshell, her stance here contradict her actions afterwards so i believe this one was deleted for the sake of continuity

    Understandably trimmed scene, but it is interesting to see Jane's potential for self-destruction being alluded to in the pilot, while simultaneously introducing its deterrent: Lisbon.
    Jane is literally and figuratively heading in the direction of departure, and because he loves her and cares what she thinks, he is pulled off course. It is his decision that changes his trajectory, but Lisbon is the unforeseen element that caused it. She saved him.

    This delete scene is from the very first episode of first season though. It's waaaaaaaay back in the beginning and I think they were just trying to build up tension in Jane - Lisbon relationship. But yea, I can understand why they cut this, Lisbon was too harsh and Jane's action in this doesn't really fit his character much imo. He wouldn't drop the case half way through, and he would just laugh or make some smart joke at Lisbon comment instead of getting mad like that.

  • @conshiusbean7401
    @conshiusbean7401 3 роки тому +12

    He was so upset because he knew she saw into him and he could not acknowledge it. Jane is a very complex character full of contradictions. Kind yet selfish, gentle yet harsh sometimes, charming yet irritating, funny yet tragic, innocent yet dark, hates violence but willing to kill to avenge his family and protect Lisbon. He grows tremendously as a person throughout the series and ends up finding peace and happiness.

    Agreed. This episode was establishing the characters. In this scene they showed a sort of weakness loosing their temper, pouting... Just doesn't fit with the direction the show took them in. Their fights are never so mean-spirited.
    Also, the scene in which Lisbon in on the phone to Jane, basically asking him to stay served the same sort of role, sticking to the playful tone of the their relationship.

    So, this deleted scene actually makes the frog origami scene even more significant, actually. He probably wasn't just apologizing for solving the case without them but also for this argument in the car.
    Thinking back on the show, it's true that we didn't really see Jane get upset too often. They have an intense argument over Lorelei, and then again in 6x01 when he is upset that she told Van Pelt about his suspect list. He generally takes other people's insults in stride and doesn't care to explain himself. So, that gives me the impression that he is upset here because she made correct statements about him, and her opinion matters to him. This scene actually shows that she could see through his facade, and that could very well be the reason that he started to let down his guard with her. Let's break it down.
    "You got nowhere to go." He confirms this when he returns to the office in a later scene. In 2x01, when they ditch him, he begs her to let him work with her again. Notice he says to work with her, not to work with the team.
    "You got no boundaries." Well, of course we know this is true.
    "You got no common sense." This is sorta true in the sense that he doesn't follow the normal rules of society. He lacks social filters.
    "You're filled with all this stuff that you refuse to acknowledge..." The show has alot of comedic moments, but we saw over and over that just beneath the surface, Jane has alot of pain flowing. Maybe it's not so much that he doesn't acknowledge it as much as he hides it.
    "One day you're gonna create a mother of a tragedy for yourself and everyone around you." He does put the team in trouble over and over. Lucky for him, the team defends him against Abbott's FBI team in 6x08. And the tragedy he creates for himself comes to a head in 6x22, when he "believes his own con" and almost loses the best thing that has ever happened to him.
    It sounds more like he's calling himself stupid for showing that her words affected him. And if he was trying to reverse-psychology her into letting him stay, maybe he was upset that it didn't work.

    Well... I mean I'm glad they cut it cause it's super strange to see Jane get so bent out of shape over something Lisbon says. It was all true, that's why he got so upset. But no one really or genuinely upsets Jane unless it's Red John and once in awhile some other miniscule characters but never to this extent. Jane is like a child most of the time, but never this much. He's able to keep his emotions in check almost all the time but this scene shows him really just sort of exploding with some sort of unanticipated rage and it was really out of no where. I'm glad it was cut, but it is an interesting thing to see Jane act so differently.

    • @tabithaprovan957
      @tabithaprovan957 3 роки тому +3

      To me I think the stranger element is Lisbon telling Jane his arrogance would create tragedy when at this point in their relationship she knew full well it already had. From episode one onwards it's very clear she is protective of him as no one else is--she knows he is more vulnerable than he appears, and is motherly towards him in spite of her desire to be rigid and professional. This is an interesting scene, but a little too juxtaposed to the rest of her behavior, and was rightfully trimmed.

  • @nobodysXghost
    @nobodysXghost 12 років тому +2

    She's pissed cuz she doesn't like the idea that Jane is only here for rj. She wants to believe that hes here for another reason.. Hint hint. And Jane got super sad when she said she really just fears him and doesn't respect him, because he loves her and wants her to love him too. And then, yeah,the tragedy she's talking about already happened.... Omg so much love

    • @tabithaprovan957
      @tabithaprovan957 3 роки тому +3

      Super late reply, but I agree. I understand why they cut it, but it's nice to see a bit of rawness in their behavior. Even without it though, it was very clear that Lisbon was both his guardian and conscience and he was very attached to her and her approval.

    This scene, perhaps more than any, demonstrates the limit of Lisbon’s intelligence and integrity.
    First and foremost she’s a cop. She thinks and acts like a cop. But she’s also a public servant, so she instinctively covers her ass every time, even when she’s covering for Jane.
    For me, the early episodes of this wonderfully well crafted show were exponentially more credible than the fairy cake wedding finale.
    Lisbon is narrow minded and frankly not interesting enough for even the reinvented Jane.
    But here we have another problem, because we are expected to believe that the conman who was shallow enough to steal money from vulnerable people - for a living, evolved into the idea of Jane that he presented to the world, but only after the psychotherapy he underwent to help cope with the trauma of losing his wife and daughter to Red John.
    HollyWeird has an extremely unhealthy relationship with both psychotherapy and the allopathic medicine world in general. And The Mentalist is in fact typical of the messages pushed by all US dramas. Example: it’s always the victim of big pharma’s fault when they become addicted to the prescription medication pushed by doctors, and natural so-called ‘alternatives’ are always misrepresented.
    When Jane repeats “Stupid” in this scene, I believe he should be referring to his own behaviour, otherwise he’s being as honest about Lisbon as we all need to be.
    But we’re analysing a script. None of this is real. It’s just above average escapism, fronted by the most charismatic character ever written for Tell-Lie-Vision. This is programming for those who enjoyed Simon Baker’s character Jeff in Smith, and knew that they would never allow anything as close to the truth as Rubicon to ever get aired again.
    Drop me at the airport, oh that’s right, I need a PCR test before the TSA can irradiate or sexually molest me...! Choices, choices
    Peace

      What I’ve done is spent a good proportion of my life researching and performed due diligence on these subjects in order to cure my ignorance. You really should try it sometime, it might help you avoid making a fool of yourself on the internet.

      smurfyday What??? How can you claim:
      “You're just as deluded seeing conspiracies everywhere.”
      somehow even remotely relates to your next claim:
      “ "natural therapy" proponents are selling fake stuff as much as pharma, and without all the double-blind studies.”
      It’s not called ‘BIG PHARMA’ for nothing. For instance, Pfizer was fined BILLIONS OF DOLLARS for misleading trading offences. The fines exceeded the entire value of the alternative medicine market. Yet Pfizer is not only still in business, but they are awarded international contacts by governments all over the world.
      Now, I’ve tried to help you cure your ignorance about these subjects, but if you just keep repeating the same insulting and rude nonsense, I’m not going on bother anymore.
      Peace

    Why was it deleted? Male shovinists couldn`t bear that a woman can say smth like that?
    They couldn`t show Jane being that vulnerable? :)
    - Yeah, they wanted him to always look and sound ironical and "in control",
    making fun of Lisbon and others and always making her look less intelligent.
    ...or maybe not. :))) Maybe, we are all wrong, and they deleated this scene (as well as some other scenes) simply because they had a certain time limit and/or other necessary regulations, not connected to characters. :)))

    It was a great scene, but i guess, it was something that shouldn't be said around the team. It's too soon and too intense for anyone to hear I'm not sure, but every time Jane's "on it", it a private conversation between him and Lisbon. In this scene it's kind of awkward, and i'm not sure how would their relationship look like after that: one of them apologizes? Not happening, considering, they're both convinced, they're right. If they try to discuss this further, it would lead to another fight.

    Why did he say stupid? Was he calling himself stupid for getting off out of pride?

      Yes, for being seen through by Lisbon trying to get her to ask him to stay, for making her think so badly of him.

      Jane: "Would you drop me at the airport, please?"
      Lisbon: "You're leaving."
      Jane: "Well, I have to get my shoes x-rayed anyway, so I figured I'd get on a plane."
      Lisbon: "And off you go on your merry way. These lives lost here mean nothing to you."
      Jane: "Not nothing. ... I'm confused, you don't want me here, and it's not Red John, so I'm gone. What's your problem?"
      Lisbon: "We don't know that it's not Red John, and what I want is not the point. ... Oh, wait a minute. I get it. You're just trying to get me to ask you to stay."
      Jane: "Why would you think that?! [to Cho:] Why would she think that?!"
      Lisbon: Because A: you've got nowhere to go, and B: you're an egomaniac. You think it's impossible that I really and truly do not want to work with you. You think that deep down inside I've got a grudging respect for your genius. The truth is, deep down, I'm scared of you. You've got no boundaries, you've got no common sense. You're filled with all of this... this stuff that you refuse to acknowledge. And one day you're gonna create one mother of a tragedy for yourself and everybody around you. I don't wanna be there when it happens. So we'll drive you to the airport, it's fine. ... Take a left on Bob Hope."
      Jane: "That's okay, just let me off here."
      Rigsby: "We can drive you. It's not a problem."
      Jane: "Stop the car." ... Stupid... Stupid!"

      _Sedna_ Interpreting for the deaf? WTF???

      ***** It could be useful for them, too, but I think it helps mostly those whose native language is not English, and understanding every single word can be difficult. (I suspect Jessica was in the same situation, too.) Since my mother tongue isn't English either, I can feel the struggle :)

      _Sedna_ I am not sure how it is helpful to type out the whole dialogue. Do you mean visualizing the words is easier for interpreting?

    • @_Sedna_
      @_Sedna_ 9 років тому +14

      ***** Those who speak and understand English only a little, simply don't hear/understand every word the actors are saying. Many of us, foreigners, watch the episodes themselves with English subtitles, because we know the meaning of the words, we just can't hear them clearly enough. The typed out dialogue I provided is supposed to function as a subtitle, too: it helps foreigners understand what's going on. If you have ever learnt a foreign language, I'm sure you know the struggle of listening comprehension :)

    This is an international website and you're commenting on an English video, so write in the appropriate language please.
    Anyway, you said "I'm Italian" like it was some sort of excuse for your lack of basic English understanding skills: you know what? It's not. Shame on you!
