Knights of the Zodiac brings the Saint Seiya saga to the big screen in live-action for the first time. Seiya (Mackenyu), a headstrong street teen, spends his time fighting for cash while he searches for his abducted sister. When one of his fights unwittingly taps into mystical powers he never knew he had, Seiya finds himself thrust into a world of warring saints, ancient magical training and a reincarnated goddess who needs his protection. If he’s to survive, he will need to embrace his destiny and sacrifice everything to take his rightful place among the Knights of the Zodiac.

I can understand that the movie may have lacked elements from the source. It's always been like that in adaptations but you cannot deny the quality of action in this movie, it's great
I watched this movie for the second time yesterday, it's amazing that I was able to enjoy it more and get more references than the first time. This movie has its ups and downs, but I really don't understand the hate, this movie deserves the best.
I hope they make a sequel, so we can see more knights.

From what i heard, the hate is from comparison to the old (saint seiya). Personally this movie is not that bad.. only not the same as Saint seiya.
@@FellowM It was a silly campaign of lies. Some were angry because the armours do not look like the ones in the manga and they are toy collectors. Apart from that, they simply merge a few stories from the beginning to present the universe and three of the main characters, creating a new plot instead of compressing 50 episodes of the anime in two hours. The stories of the characters barely change, the essence remains the same. But these short people had to boicot it to ruin the cinema box office. And they lied saying that technologies had never appeared in the anime, they lied saying they had perverted the saga by creating a new plot, when the anime has a whole invented season. Hopefully, if One Piece remains successfull and Mackenyu a star the saga of 6 films projected at the beginning will continue because the film was very successfull in platforms. That will not change that some so called "fans" are actually mere boicoters in search for angry Likes in their UA-cam channels, likes of people they adviced not to go to the cinema and so never watched it. It was also rather suspicious that they would coordinate to make sure it got a low mark in imdb. I posted a comment there saying it was a good film but it was never actually posted by IMDB, by the way.

This movie is so spectacular, amazing and incredible because the battles is so interesting. Mackenyu's work is so beautiful

To all action movies fans, y'all come to wrong place. Avoid watching Japanese anime adaptations produced by Hollywood with an Asian action movie standard lens. Don't waste your energy criticizing this movie because is never mean to you. Instead, go watch Indonesian and Hong Kong films like "The Raid," "The Night Comes for Us," and others.

Many fans who didn't like it wanted a copy of the anime, since this is a movie that shows Seiya's journey to become a knight
@@qq9268 I recommend you watch the anime again and read the manga. The Seiya complained, teased Saori at the beginning, he cried, he was beaten and he was much more childish because in the anime/manga he was a 13 year old teenager.

This movie isn't perfect, but it has its ups and downs. It's still a fun and interesting movie and has the potential for a much better sequel.

The Phoenix Ikki actor said that if there is a sequel, we will see more of this character, so it would show his training on the Death Queen Island, Esmeralda and a little of his childhood with Shun. I really hope there's a second movie, even if it's a direct to streaming release

Having ambition is all it takes to make an adaptation work.
This movie is the prime example of an adaptation where the studio hired anyone to do anything, without a care in the world.
Chill out. Not an "adaptation" though. It is a live-action film "based" on the anime. So yeah, no need for it to be 1:1 identical to the show. I will not watch the movie cuz' it does not look interesting to me, like at all. I of course prefer the anime.

This is another one of those car crashes you see on UA-cam where the viewers want to know who the complete moron was that caused the accident. All the actors are remembered in history forever, as the losers on the big screen.
This is a reimagination with elements from the original and the spin offs, not an adaptation.

I'd say the action visuals they took plenty of care..and as far as lore, some of my saint seiya friends did cheer when he put on his arm and said certain things..adaptation is middling but the action was top notch

The action in this movie was great but unfortunately, things about it felt generic
...it was its best when it leaned on the fantasy side...but as just a martials extravanganze I enjoyed it
Seiya that i and all the fans knew, was never has this COLD expression like Mackenryu has. Seiya always cheerful, full of energy including energy to talk active, little dummy and too noisy. Mackenryu character is more suitable to play Shenlong
I do not agree. Seiya is not smiling all the time in the anime either. He enjoys a good fight and so does the one in the film. Seiya could not stand Saori in the beginning and here it looks the same. But later they laugh together. Seiya in the film is not always sad or rigid. And you cannot expect him to laugh at the memories of her sister being kidnapped or when he constantly fails to learn to use the cosmos. He would be kind of fool.

Saint Seiya deserves better.
It was only an introduction of the universe. It would be better if people invested in the project. But we live surrounded by supposed fans that like more cosplayers and live through hating likes in their own UA-cam opinion unbased channels. Not too many knights of hope out there, only very small people with very short future vision.
When I was little, I loved the cartoon, they tried to emulate it, but it was not very successful. It would be much more successful if Marvel made such films.

I'll never understand the studios going through the effort of obtaining an IP with good story, established lore, solid fanbase and then make a half-hearted thing that just barely resembles the source beyond its name
they wanted to make a cinematic universe with six movies and the first one seems like it was done in the early 2000s, HOW?, we are past guardians of the galaxy, why are they so afraid of the source material? why are they doing this?, we are long past origin stories of characters who don't believe in magic and we don't have to explain why a character has purple hair... WHY?
@@Badbufon It was a great movie, an introduction that presents the universe and the most important three characters hoping for fans to appreciate the effort and support it so that, with more money they could do much, much better. How naive they were. And how naive are those that believe that a film of the championship for the gold armour with no introduction of the general main theme of the saga would have been appreciated at all today, an arch completely irrelevant in the main plot. People do not realise that the good parts in it, the fight between Seiya and Shirju would have appeared later anyway. People do not understand what a budget is and that a story written every week tends to be incoherent and needs to be revisated too. It was a great film. They mixed some of the adventures and it was a good decission in my opinion. And I don't think any other fan is more of a fan of Saint Seiya than me. Those critics that claim to speak for the fans do not, in fact most of them have received money from their UA-cam Channel out of boicoting the film with falsehoods. I want more.

Because even though she was a Goddess, she was reincarnated as a mortal. The knights are part of Athena's army (each of the gods has their own army), and they fight alongside Athena against the other gods to protect the earth, mainly against Poseidon and Hades.

the Galaxian Wars arc would have been an amazing starting point, colorful, full roster, if you want to appeal to the US market lean more heavily into the WWE aspects of it.
THEN you can go and do the MCU rip off they wanted where each character goes into their own adventure and fight a gold knight and gets reunited in Sanctuary for the big fight, EZ clap.
both anime and manga starts in that Arc because there is no much backstory to Seiya as a character, his whole plot is told via flashbacks in a few pages. you can't make a whole movie around it, much less so if you took away the Greece setting that made it aesthetically appealing.... they didn't even set up Sanctuary as a thing in this movie, you know, where the cool shit would happen if it didn't flopped?, i was mesmerized by the terrible exposition dumps this movie did every once in a while, i wonder if a rando understood what happened in the movie at all
No, they did not ignore the fans, they ignored toy collectors with litlle knowledge in story telling and cinema and people who have never in their lives adapted a single work to a script. Most of the critics lie, most of the critics have UA-cam Channels and live out of hate Likes. They lied when they deliberately ignored that the Asgard saga did neither exist in the manga, or when they claimed that no new technologies had ever appeared in the anime, ignoring the Knights of Steel, and they lied when they said that the film was not faithfull to the essence of Saint Seiya. It is. This is a great movie to introduce the universe and three of the main characters in depth. Of course, some wanted to see the whole championship for the gold armour, the black knights arch and the bronze, silver and golden knights appearing in the Sanctuary saga in some sort of two-hour roller-coaster videogame good for nothing. Or maybe they wanted only a film of the championship for the gold armour with no reference to the general theme of the saga and the truth about Saori. Well some of us would have hated those films. Some of us noticed too that the manga was revisated by the writer from time to time and found a good idea to get rid of unnecessary plots. Some of us are very glad that the director took the time to go to the basics creating a short introductory new saga in which we could meet Saori, Seiya and Ikki and get to know them and see them interact, get a glimpse of the myth, the growing of Seiya, the training with Marin, the original sound track and of the mix they created of black knights and Steel knights. It was great that we did not get all the evolutions of the armours just now, it was great that we would be wanting to watch the next film with more bronze knights and maybe the Sanctuary arch, with more money for the effects. Now after the boicot campaign and the poor box office, it will be very difficult but some of us will be looking forward to watching the sequel should it be filmed and will actively demand it is.
