I drive a lwb high roof crafter all day long- through tiny backstreets and on freeways.It's always a dream. I love it.
the only downside of the crafter is its huge turning cycle compared to the sprinter and transit... my company both uses long wheelbase crafters and transits and the transit has a smaller turning cycle'

How can you compare a high roof van to a regular height van?
Ofcorse Mercedes...Have been driving all of them. Mercedes gives you the most comfort drive of them, interior difference is like day and night comparing WAG Group and Ford with Mercedes. Mercedes is Icon for sure

And the three things REAL van operators always look for in a van are FUEL ECONOMY, RELIABILITY & LONGEVITY of which the Sprinter has all three. The transit has a long record of being unreliable in the real world with catastrophic engine failures and constantly in the workshop and the VW has a passenger car engine fitted into a commercial (2.0 TDI) so will wear out very quickly. The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter is in a league of its own and is the only real world choice for professional businesses.

Tarabit. Interesting. Your the first person to acknowledge the things we are looking for. Like you said, fuel economy, reliability and longevity. Any sources for the things you say about the sprinter? I am looking to buy soon and having difficulty getting all the into together to see what will make me and save me the most money in the end.
I had a sprinter for 10days… and it’s engine died catastrophically, will never get one again. I then got a 2015 Fiat Ducato 3.0 180bhp and it’s the single best van that I have ever driven, absolutely loved every mile until I got crashed into.
The VW Crafter has its own 2.0 TDI, not the passenger car one even if the data is the same.

I'm now starting to think ford is paying you to favour ford. You didn't even add Renault Master van which has what ford has and more.
And they give the Ranger the ute of the year award EVERY SINGLE YEAR...
In almost all other reviews I've read, the Crafter wins hand down for driving comfort, accuracy, etc.. My best pick would be the MAN TGE--same as the Crafter, more standard safety features, and a fair bit cheaper.
Keep in mind, Ford is the #1 selling van in Europe, AND in 2015 they brought that same design back to North America....killing the old American van classic, the Econoline, which was available with a beast V-10 engine and has classic BIG USA exterior style. I'm not sold on the Transit yet, and I like the old school look of the Econoline.

How is the rust protection in the new sprinter
if you need a van like this for some serious work, go and check out the chassis of these vehicles on the dealer's lot. I can assure you that the Mercedes is much better built underneath than any of its rivals, meaning it has chassis, drive line and suspensions components that resemble more something you would find in a small truck, rather than a van.

VW + Mercedes = Quality and reliability work horses with superior back up and service

Ford automatic transmission is limited to 100 kmt to meet the new WLTP pollution requirements, remember to tell about that !
Australia is Euro 5 market. WLTP does not apply.
Iveco daily is miles better than ford transit. Mine showing 480,000 miles and only broke down once due to a worn out wire.
Pain to work on compared to transit
I have a Sprinter and it is a piece of junk. Yes, it was nice for the first few years then it rusted out, everywhere. I have replace the complete braking system event the emergency brake and brake lines twice and the van only has 75,000 miles on it. My friend has a three year old Sprinter and it is already falling apart. I'm here looking for a new van. Stay away from the Sprinter.
Buy the new Iveco daily with the 3 liters 210 hp with class-leading gearbox Hi Matic
or the 2.3 liters 160 hp if you can`t afford the 210
But go for the Hi Matic gearbox. It`s something you won't regret.

As a driver i would say - FORD is winning in every aspect. And im saying it after 30k + miles on each of them.
Phone- and Cupholders are unimportant. I'm more interested in the quality of the engine and the susceptibility to rust.Thanks for the video anyway.

Time has proven that the transit is no longer a real contender in this segment. The sprinter has it in spades for reliability and running costs
Oddly this is the only review I've seen so far to even credit the transit above these two, clearly biased.
Literally every single sprinter van I see on UK roads is an absolute rust bucket. Very rarely see one wothout the back doors ruined by rust.

The older Sprinter rust so much I see so many 2017 Sprinters rusted but I don't see the 2018 Sprinter (next gen) which 1 year does not make a difference with rust but I have never seen a next gen 2018 sprinter rusty but I see many of the later last gen sprinters rusty so probably better rust protection
So they complain about hard plastics in there Fiat Ducato review but they say its okay in the Ford Transit
Did you say the Transit is front wheel drive? Here in USA, we only get RWD or AWD (new for 2020). I didn’t know they had FWD versions.

Americans are best off buying American built. The two Germany built vans have issues with part & repair availability in the states. You can order a Transit with a Diesel engine. The transit has more useable cargo space for the 💵.

Exactly. I drive a new transit and have also driven the new sprinter many times and find the sprinter so much nicer to drive with better ergonomics all round. Not to mention smoother and more reliable. The Transits are rubbish. It's a good job they have problems all the time because it gives your back and shoulder aches time to recover from the awful driving position.
But ford is far better than vw atleast
Transit is the best and if You could get it with the 310 horsepower and 400 foot pounds of torque in the 3.5 EcoBoost engine You would love it.

@@Scrambler85 it's still isn't a real 4×4. Sprinter hands down. I tested all of them. Complete biased review. Yes the transit is much cheaper to buy but the Sprinter is definitely twice the van.
You only get that engine in the USA and Canada. Rest of the world gets a 2.0 EcoBlue turbo diesel. You guys in the US get the 3.5 EcoBoost turbo V6 petrol and 3.7 naturally aspirated V6 petrol and 3.2 Powerstroke turbo diesel but the rest of the world gets the 2.0 EcoBlue engine for efficiency reasons. People like the Sprinter because it gets the frugal 2.1 turbo diesel as well as an also relatively fuel efficient 3.0 V6 turbo diesel.
