How broad can the topics be? Should they all be plant/history related? I'd love to see a similar examination of current collecting and/or poaching of hoyas and begonias, maybe all aroids? Or any frank examination of the good and bad that are a part of the plant industry and our shared plant hobby. Ethical sourcing of plants, but also plant materials (substrates, fertilizers, etc.). Thank you :)
I'm not sure what your normal videos are about or your typical subject as this is the first video I've seen of yours. But I will say that if it's plant related... I would absolutely watch it and I'm sure you'll do it wonderfully. Will return when I've come up with a suggestion that I think is worthy of mentioning. (Thinking on this because I f it's anything like this video, I want it to be a good one) -L
@@LauraStansfield-tw7xb There are never any bad ideas, just the possibility of poor execution of those ideas on my part. 😂 Seriously though, I don't mind venturing out of plants now and then. I can become obsessed with lots of different topics long enough to make a video on them. 😄
@@brennabelland4678 Those are all very good ideas, thank you. Feel free to share any ideas for videos you'd like to see that aren't necessarily plant-related as well. 🤗
That was very interesting. I never considered how these beautiful tropical plants came to be so readily available in stores. Thank you for sharing your research. Now I’m curious about how other non native species, like hoya, came on the market. Great video! 💕
Thank you for this. We need to know this valuable information. You make your storytelling simple and interesting. At the same time you inform us of the "dark" side of collecting these beautiful living things.💚
I learned so much from this. It's not easy creating a teaching moment on scientific/social history and not have it turn dry and unpalatable. This was wonderful.
I loved this video. I'm an orchid collector but I have branched out to other houseplants now, and I'm buying fewer orchids. I loved hearing the history, and you tell it well!
Awesome video, Betsy! This was a great surprise: a well-researched and presented historical plant-based deep dive. Thank you! Bringing history to light is so cool, and this was a fascinating insight into something I haven't heard about before.
This is genuinely really cool! Did not any of this, did not know that even WAY BACK THEN we were still overspending and collecting exotic plants 🤣 the exotic trade will never die
Excellent video! I am an avid orchid collector and hobbiest and have never enjoyed such an informative and also entertaining video... Hats off Betsy!!!!!
Wow Betsy, thanks for the research you shared and also the story you were sharing it was very interesting to listen to and oh gosh so much I really didn't know about, but I really love orchids and have 3 of them that are happy. Have a great rest of your daym sending love and hugs, bye!! 😍🤗💕💖💜💜💜💜💜
Thank you for this great video! The history was very interesting, the narrativ parts made me goose bumps and the pictures were so funny! All in one a really good job! And it‘s a good reminder to think about, where our plants come from. We have to take care of the ecosytems and be aware of plant theft today
Hi Betsy. I want to thank you for sharing this very sad and amazing orchid history. I am an avid orchid collector and am absolutely in love with them. This is very much like the mad obsession for tulips in the 18th century. To some extent, this activity is still in place today. Thank you. ❤
I thought about a video about the Tulips craze but heavens to me if it wasn't difficult to source photos for this one. 😂 Maybe only topics that occurred post the invention of the camera from now on. 😅
You are absolutely wonderful. This is one of the best videos I've seen ever on UA-cam. Subscribed , And hats off to your vocabulary, research, light hearted and comforting sarcasm, And finally, your sincere and severe attitude where it truly matters most.. Truly enjoyable, and equally educational. Thanks for this -L
Thank you so very much for the feedback! I'm honored. 💕 I'd like to get better at videos of this style as it's my first try (I've always wanted to make content like this)!
This was very well presented and highly informative. Thanks for the research and explaining the appeal of these beautiful flowers. Flowers that I have no hope of ever seeing again on the solitary orchid that I own.🙄
Bravo, 👏 bravo, a standing ovation , aren't we the talented one. Well done, I love it educational, humours, thought provoking and darn right entertaining. You just have to do another one. I love Orchids but I have a second love and that's Alocasias, so I put my suggestion in for one on them please. With a cherry on top lol.
Hello from Canada! I absolutely loved this video. I'm a history nerd. I love it when you explain the history of plant's names and I cringe now whenever someone calls a Hoya a potsii lol. There's no such thing!!! Have you considered a deep dive in one type of orchid or hoya and the madness people went through so that we could enjoy them in our homes? How about begonias? Maybe you already did on one them. Just throwing out ideas. I know content creators sometimes aren't sure what to do next. So I for one absolutely loved this and would thoroughtly enjoy more of this. Thank you for the educational and entertaining material. :)

Edu-taining plant documentaries narrated by Betsy Begonia? Yes please! ❤
Very cool, I love hearing the history of our plant culture!!
OMG that "let's find out.." was everything. Do Anthuriums next! The elite hybrids! Or the Carla history. Or the terrarium Begonias that give me grief.

Hair and makeup perfect, story telling skills excellent =a most interesting, wonderful video about orchids!🌱😊 vivacious
Botanical daredevils! You are a fucking artist 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Except they were jumping rivers on tree vines instead of motorcycles and ramps. 🤷♀️
You should do ferns next really enjoyed this 💚
Heavens to Betsy, what a well researched topic! Thank you! (Your fox needs to make another video appearance!)
😂🦊 Frank is always looking over me here in the living room, just behind the camera (no joke).

Gosh there would be no orchids if it was left up to me to do what these guys did - bug bites, tropical rainstorms etc etc. Forget It!!
I can't even water the potted plants on my patio without squealing and wiggling around if a fly lands on me. 😭
