Ever since the logo reveal trailer in February was released, I've been believing that the style of how the Sonic movie 3 logo appears on screen is a reference to how the SA2 logo appears on screen before the main menu becomes accesable exclusively in the original Dreamcast version of that game. 1. Black background, 2. The Sonic & Shadow quils part spins on to the screen, 3. Then the other parts of the logo get automatically slammed on piece by piece.
You forgot one more reference. Don't know if you've seen Sonic Boom, but the part where Shadow picks up Sonic and smashes him to the ground looks the same as in Sonic Boom, the first fight between Sonic and Shadow has the same format only Shadow kicks Sonic to the ground instead
It wouldn’t be a coincidence that shadow just broke out all of a sudden. Robotnik was obviously behind this. I bet after Robotnik helps Sonic, he’s gonna betray them at the end and tell them that it was him who released shadow.

It's definitely Gerald. Think about it, Gerald being alive goes against the idea of his grandson being responsible for releasing Shadow. And you saw Eggman receiving Sonic's quill, so by the time he betrays Team Sonic, he could do so by introducing Metal Sonic. What else could Eggman do with the quill at the this point, it's a perfect chance to bring in Metal and potentially have it in the next film
