Thank your for that review. Got my cables and will be installing them soon.
Awesome. They are really nice to have. Enjoy!
Thank you so much, I just ordered three of these cables! I was getting ready to dump my Arlo, but decided to see what was on U-Tube to help me out and you gave Arlo a reprieve. My batteries were NOT lasting and could not trust it to do the job while I was away for weeks or months on end.
That's great. Happy to help.
That was so cool when you were standing there with your sun hat on! Thanks for this video man, I really appreciate it.
I have only just subscribed to your channel recently Steve. Love your content, and delivery style of presenting. Great vid mate... Hey from Australia :)
Thanks Daniel! Happy to hear that you like my videos. Welcome to the channel.
This was such a big help for me. Thank you! Thank you!
You should do a review on the solar panel attachment accessory
Definitely answered some of the questions I had. 👍👍
Great review Steve, thanks. Question for you, Can you use Solar panel to keep the battery charged on the Arlo pro 2
Thank you so much for this video.
great review and thnx for the links... subbed
Hey Steve, thanks for the review. I have the Arlo Pro 3 cameras, experiencing the same issue with batteries running out in days. When you hardwire them do you leave the batteries in the camera?
Great video by the way. Thinking about picking up the camera and items now. So no more charging battery for you now? Let me know if your system is still going good. Thanks bud.
Great video and idea! :)
Thank you
awesome review! I know someone that has that exact cable and loves it. 😉
It’s a must have to get all the features out of the Arlo Pro 2s.
Is there enough room in back of camera for a screw in mount and micro USB plug to both be attached at same time?
Awesome thank you
Hello Steve, I am hoping you can answer a question, I have a 5 camera arlo pro 2 system and I want to add a 6th, does arlo charges $100 just to add that 6th camera ? Or is it a diffrent fee per camera?
Thanks for the video. Do you have any issues getting a notification on your camera for a charging fault? I bought some aftermarket charging cables, ( not yours) and it will charge the camera at first and then I get a notification that I need to connect an Arlo charger to my camera, which is no longer charging
what if I want to plug in my USB power adapter to an OUTDOOR outlet, do you have a link to a waterproof adapter?
Is this still working out for you? Also have you noticed lower 1080p quality of the cameras after recent firmware upgrades? Cause I just got them and it looks not so good compared to the 720p version or the REolink but with better framerates
How long does it take to charge when the temperature is between 50°- 70°, since Arlo mentioned this can effect charging time? Also, we live in the Northeast and get weather that often gets below 0°. I'm going to return my outdoor power adapter, since Arlo specifies it won't charge, or will charge very, very slowly with temperatures below 32°.
Hi Steve. Great review. I was just wondering, can the batteries be in the Pro 2 while plugged in to power? If so, will the cameras and/or batteries get damaged over time?
Yes you can keep the batteries in the camera and the power cable will just keep them topped off. As far as them getting damaged over time, that would be a question for arlo.
Question... I want to install the Arlo camera outside with the power cable. Does anyone know how long continues viewing of the Arlo 2 lasts? I have had other camera that stop after 10 mins of viewing
Converted battery cameras to wired. Worked great. Base station damaged and had to replace. How do I sync the now wired cameras to the new base station. They are suppose to be within 3 feet of base station.
I have a question can you use it to check on your camera with 2 different Internet connections to be able to connect with that camera when being far away from 2 different phones o tablet ?
I notice on my Arlo charging brick that the voltage is 8 volts rather than the usual usb 5 volts. So I suspect that your slim wall hugger charger won't work, can you do a follow up on that? Also I see some people have problems with this brand of cable with the camera giving an error message. Has this cable worked over time for you?
would the camera work without the battery with the cable plugged
Do you think this would work on the secret/hidden port on the Original Arlos?
Good deal just got my 3 pack and installed
Awesome. Enjoy those extra camera feature now. :)
I might get a few of these just so I don't have to unscrew my camera every couple of months and I can charge it in its original place.
Do u keep the battery in or do you take them out?
Pls advise if my strategy makes sense ... 1) for my driveway - buy Arlo Pro 2 that I can plug-in an electrical power outlet ( outlet is located in the garage about 20 ft away), also buy the "cable" separately, correct? What length a cable to buy? 2) for my backyard - buy Arlo Pro 2 with Solar Panel (coz no power outlet there). I need one of each : plugged (for continuous power) and solar (for places that cannot be wired). Thanks for helping me decide.
yes i think that's a good strategy. There are also 20' length cables out there too. I'll like one in the description.
Hey with the IKit wall usb adapter at which port would you recommend to keep these Arlo pro 2 cameras plugged in safe from electrical damage... in the 1amp port or 2amp port? Thank you
If you pull the battery and just run off power I think your good with the 1 amp. If you keep the battery in and want to keep it topped off you’ll want to use the 2 amp.
I had to use 20ft cables. Never understood why Arlo never made a 20ft. cable.
I have two of my pro 2 cameras exposed to the weather and one of them developed a fault so I had to bring inside, open it,take out battery, and let dry out so it was water from the heavy rain the other night.
Had it plugged in and powered inside for a few days with no issues now.
I'm applying aircraft grade all weather waterproof tape to seams, hinge area, and bead of sealant where cable connects to make absolutely sure water does not get in.
Also lubricated the o ring.
Put covers on them as well.
Mount them again and see what happens.
Yes, this 16ft cable messes with my OCD. Why not 15' or 20'?? and if you're going to seal it you might as well do it right. haha it's good that the rain didn't damage the camera. These things aren't cheap.
Do you have to have the battery in the camera when you have the camera plugged in? Thanks.
No you do not need the battery in the camera if it’s plugged in.
@@SteveDOES Thanks a bunch!
Surprised you havent posted a followup. Almost everyone I know with this cable - myself included - has ended up with a water damaged Arlo 2 Pro camera and cable within 9 months. Even after wrapping my connection in plumbers tape and sealing it on top of using this cable, it didn't last a year.
Now I have an unchargable Arlo 2 Pro camera.
FYI: My camera was also under a window lege and wearing Wasserstein silicon sleeves. Point of failure was the cable design and the not so waterproof external USB connection
Anyone with this issue.. you can just buy replacement cables and ports online instead of splashing out on RMA or a new Arlo camera
@@dpnmodi didn’t he say that the camera was damaged too?
The batteries need to be replaced after a week only? I may reconsider wanting Arlo. I was hoping at least a month or two.
The batteries in the Pro and Pro 2 are rechargeable. In very high traffic areas they only last about a week. My cameras in the back yard and front yard last about 2-3 months.
Can I charge the Arlo Essential?
So, in order to get the extra functionality of the cameras they need to be plugged in. But just plugged into electric not the base station? I thought the functions were controlled by the info coming over the cable, is this just because of battery life or power requirements?
Yes, it just needs to be plugged into power. The Motion Zones and 3 second lookback are too power intensive to run just off the battery.
Is it possible to use an external wall mount while using the cable? Have you tested that?
it depends on the mount you use. On the security wall mount I had to remove the white plastic Stop to get the cable to fit. In general having a cable plugged in does limit the ability to point the camera down. What helped in my situation was moving my mount from the front of my eves to the side.
Does it work with the Arlo Pro?
Do you still need to hear the battery installed ? Or can you use the plug and no battery?
No. The battery does not need to be in the camera if it's plugged in.
dumb question but does the battery need to be in the camera when using the cable ? or just the cable straight to the camera with out the rechargeable battery inside the camera?
Not a dumb question at all. No need to have the battery in the camera when it's plugged in.
Steve DOES right on bro thank for the reply. yeah i just purchased the arlo pro 2 yesterday after someone Vandalize my truck i got it all set up now and i love it i slept a lot better last night knowing my cameras are recording. thanks for the vids they are definitely coming in handy 👍🏼🤘🏼
Steve DOES looking forward to a vid explaining how to set the sensitivity on the video camera
I HAVE ADT SECURITY SO HOW WOULD THAT WORK OUT??
Hi Steve, wondering if you have recommendations for what kind of mount would suit an arlopro plugged in. There does not seem to much space between the charging point and holder point
I had the same problem. You should buy the power adapter that has a 75 degree angle plug (as opposed to 90 degree). It allows for more space to use outdoor mounts. See my review here. www.amazon.com/gp/customer-reviews/RS7RO9ZQ8UTCJ?ref=pf_ov_at_pdctrvw_srp
Steve, Thank you for your many info videos. You are the "Prince of Arlo" ha. Pro 2 chargers have a dual voltage . 5v to operate but 9v to charge. The alternative is "Waser.." but still a bit expensive for multi camera setup. The ikit you suggest is a 5v only with two (ea.) amp outputs. Please better define this requirement and suggest a vendor more affordable. I would also like to know more about solar chargers, again affordable. I saw a few on ebay but the dual voltage is still the long pole in the tent. V/R Tom
ToothRock@RattlesnakeCreek yep, this is important. Before placing your cameras on these cables they need to be fully charged by the charging cable, then they will have battery power to fall back on. Otherwise as soon as the 5V power is lost the battery will still be depleted since it never charged.
This has been my biggest gripe about my Arlo system, why use a standard interface with a non-standard voltage? To sell more chargers of course.
Any thoughts on how to set this up without running it through a window? Would I be able to use the USB charger plugged in outside? If not, I guess the only alternative would be to drill a hole?
Yes you can use any power source. If it’s outside just make sure it’s covered to prevent weather damage.
@@SteveDOES So either build some kind of weather resistant box around the outdoor socket to cover the USB charger or plug it in inside and run the cable through a hole in the wall. Would have much preferred them to release a weather proof cable that I could directly plug into the outdoor socket, could have saved me a bunch of additional DIY...
According to instructions, the battery will only charge with the power brick that came with the Arlo Pro 2 camera? 3:04 🙄... Using a different adapter 3:27 will not charge the battery.
What is brand of cable and any updates after long term use as some say they get error messages with non arlo brand power cords
The 16ft Wasserstein cable is what i use and i haven't had any issues with it yet.
I’ve used these since summer. One has already stopped working and there’s green corrosion in the camera’s charging port now. I’m nervous that I’m ruining the camera. The second one is still working and I’m not touching it. Maybe corrosion forming there too???
@@Patrick-qn6oq Dielectric grease👍. Used it on my cameras in steamy Florida for a year and a half now.
PLEASE READ if you live in areas that can get cold in the winter!
Ok, so, I went ahead and bought all the cables and all the plugs recommended here in this video and setup my Arlos with continuous power. But the problem is if the temperature drops below 0°C (32°F), the cameras DO NOT CHARGE and will die. Living in Toronto, the temperature can drop below 0°C within three to five months of the year. It's super annoying having to set this all up but end up still having to charge the batteries. I had no idea why it wasn't charging since it was winter when I set it up. I just thought it wasn't working, or I got bad cables or something. I took the Arlos down and put up Nest cameras instead and are using the Arlo cameras as backup cameras in low traffic areas now.
I wish I knew this before investing heavily into Arlo.
So, please note: if you live in a winter area like Canada or the upper States, just remember that the Arlo cameras WILL NOT CHARGE in 0°C (32°F) weather or lower!!
Does Arlo make a similar cable?
Not that i'm aware of.
Do you get the added functions w/ direct power on arlo pro also?If so , how?
Those features are only available on the Pro 2 cameras. If you just have the Pro now, you can buy a single Pro 2 camera and connect it to your current Pro base. The new Pro 2 camera will have those new features for you but, just on that one camera.
@@SteveDOES Thanks,good to know.
Does battery status screen show solar panel as power source like A /C outlet shows up on arlo pro?
Benny Charo I talked to a buddy who has a solar panel and he said that it does not show that it’s being charged by a solar panel. It just shows as A/C power.
@@SteveDOES I S/U solar panel & due to having very over cast past few days I couldn't check it out.I found that when the solar panel is getting sun & charging the camera. The battery status screen does show the battery charging symbol rather than just showing the battery symbol.
By the way, since the last reply I have installed two 16 ' wasserstein power cables to run direct power to go to my arlo pro cameras & I did get the motion zoning mode.
Thanks for you help.Greatly appreciated.
Yeah those Weinstein cables don’t work tried them and you get a error message saying the charging is incompatible and stops charging. I had these replaced 3 times and still got the error. Also tried 2 more cameras still got error.
Dang really? Are these the outdoor weather resistant ones?
Yes they don't work they come up as incomparable and don't charge
@@SteveDOES I'm having the same issue, and it turns out it's the iKits charger. I bought 4 thinking they work, but they don't. The cables seem to be ok. If I use the Arlo charging brick, it's fine.
How does the 3-second look back work? If the battery is charging, it doesn't seem to do the 3-second look back?
can you have the battery in and have the battery as back up if mains power fails?
yes
Thankyou Steve :)
@@SteveDOES do you think that would degrade the quality of the battery, being fully charged 100% of the time? Would it maybe be better to use as a hot-swap spare for one of my other battery powered cameras?
If there was a powercut, would the camera keep recording until the base-station got power again? If not I guess there's no point in them having batteries as well as cables.
The 25 foot cable comes with the brick and has higher reviews.
One clip had snow and one didnt . Did you realy take that long to do the filming
SNOW? I haven't seen snow in years. :(
@@SteveDOES okay so it was years ago that you did that review
@@MyIronman8 What's the time in the video that you see snow?
16ft isn’t Long enough really, also I was thinking maybe it’s good to buy extra batteries keep them charged and rotate them out
This video already makes me hate Arlo and I haven't even purchased yet... Wires required to access full ability of the camera... So 5 wired camera? Fat charger bricks for each? No thanks. Would it make sense to buy 1 extra cam instead and "rotate" them to 1 charger cord each night? Even that sounds like work. Bad job, Arlo.
Great video, though. Thanks!
