What a fabulous dragon I love it!
Wow! That looks rad Jon!! So satisfying to watch the timelapse! & it’s so articulate
Thanks Ron! I'm really pleased how it came out. It looks amazing in the flesh.
I've ordered a 52mm filter adapter and a set of close up lenses to improve my timelapse quality. The printer bed here was too close to the HERO10 to really be in focus (it's probably only about 25cm at the top), and the only close up lens I had was a 15x one (far too close).
@@JonS that's awesome! i recently just ordered a marco lens for the GoPro - was inspired to capture some super slo-mo macro shots! cant wait for it to arrive!

Respect for the 3d print
It took it a long time
You make beautiful products
The artist of this dragon has to be sad to see that some people sell the dragons printed with rainbow filaments and never give the credits on theirs tiktoks. The last dragon I saw on instagram was 500$ approximately.

Very cool !
Man that song is fire!
Do you just use the filament in the link? Do you need to play around with the settings for how the colours came out? Sorry if it's silly q, new to all this
Yes, that's the filament. I didn't have to do too much messing around to get a satisfactory result. After using the filament for a small vase, I realized the transition is quite slow. With 1.2mm walls, 10% infill (not needed for this print really), and 182% scale, it came out just right. If I printed one smaller with this filament, I'd thicken up the side walls to try to maintain the mm of filament per layer (or to keep the total filament used roughly constant).
How did you end up with what looks like perfect layer color balance? I assume the filament changes color at various places.. its like whatever filament you chose worked perfectly for this print.
@@deadline8416 yes, I printed large and chose the number of perimeters to get a good transition distance in z. I did also play with using the infill density to get a good transition. This model doesn't even need infill to print. Some later ones I did, I turned off infill and added a perimeter (for child proofing).
it looks realy awsome,Can you print ARTICULATED FROST DRAGON which is available in cults3d
I can’t find the link in the description for where to purchase the .stl
DAMN. cool music
Dang that looks sick I love that colors you did a great job by making that 3D printed dragon Jon
How much grams of filliment did it take
Nice dragon, how do you print the whiskers for this dragon. Thanks
Thanks! This one was for my kids to play with, so I skipped the whiskers, thinking they would not survive. For other prints, I included the whiskers (there's room for them in the center of the coiled dragon body/tail.
Salom menga aytingchi bu ajdarhoning chizmasini qaysi sahifadan oldingiz ?
This dragon is my favorite one
How many mm you set in the Z Hop
Height setting ?
Zero! I didn't use any z hop for this print. Generally, I don't find I need it when printing PLA on this printer.
Do you know what the print volume is? I want to print one at my school but I don't know if the full size model will fit
The coiled version of the model (there's a straight one too) measures 175.08mm x 146.01mm x 39.25mm for 100% scale. You can probably print it a little smaller, but at some point there won't be enough clearance for the print-in-place parts to free up, unless you add a negative vertical shell offset.
What printer do you have at school?
@@JonS a tiertime upbox+ i believe
@@threeminutes5731 that has a 255 × 205 × 205 mm build envelope, according to the website. You should be able to print one at 150%, so long as you don't take up too much space with a skirt.
@@JonS good to know I bought the model and some rainbow pla filament so I'm hoping it turns out well!
.6 with a .4 nozzle I see that you said your printing slow at 40mm does that help with the extra amount of plastic your trying to push out the nozzle? my first dragon came out like shit and my Benchy / Cali dragon using the same settings came out good. I did a .42 width with a .4 nozzle and I am running .28 Layer height I do print fast 80mm but I really didn't think my settings would come out as bad as it did.
The printer has Volcano-like nozzles so has plenty of flow, but I find it hard to get a very shiny finish if I print silks faster. I've printed silk filaments at up to 400mm/s on my V-Minion, but I've not managed to get it as shiny as here. Generally, printing slow means shinier, even for non-silk filaments. You can see this when printing fast Benchies where the shininess changes at different z heights due to the printer slowing down when there's a minimum layer time set.
Hello! Beautiful dragon! I have been thinking aobut getting into 3d printing myself and was curious what kind of 3D printer this is!
This is a Craftbot Flow IDEX. It's a commercial printer. If you're interested in getting in to 3D printing there are a lot of great options in 2024 at reasonable price points (of course, "reasonable" depends on your budget). You should start with asking what do you want to do with the printer? That will inform you what materials you want to print with (PLA, PETG and TPU can be printed on an open printer; ABS, ASA, and nylon really need an enclosed chamber printer. It will also inform you of what build volume you need.
Hello, other things, a question, how do I make a commercial article, products, online purchases, 3D printing, what do you need, can you make one?
where do you get it it is made without printing it is handmade 3d printing sells ONE PRODUCT

Hey Jon! Can you make a tutor for this ? Please
Is it soft?
Hello, I loved your work, excuse me, where can I buy that dragon in those colors, my son loves that dragon and now he has me looking for it, but those who can do it tell me that it will not turn out the same as that, it depends on the filament, I am having a hard time getting it I even bought the printing patterns but they tell me that it depends on the material, could you guide me?
I believe he linked the filament he used in the description.
@@scottydawg1234567 yep! The link is in the description (but no one ever reads YT descriptions)
I have a question, my articulated dragons always have their joints fused together so they can’t move How do I fix that?
Could be caused by elephants foot (over-squeezing of the first layer). A lot of modern slicers have elephants foot compensation options. Or you could try the old-fashioned approach of better dialing in of your first layer offset and flow.
It might also be over-extrusion for all the other layers. The simplest fix is to apply an x/y compensation in the slicer which pulls in the outer perimeter slightly. Which slicer are you using?
@@JonS I’m using creality slicer

Hey I know you from Danny black! Really cool content! I love 3d printing! (I have 2!)
Did you find me via Danny Black's comments, or is this some crazy coincidence?
I love 3D printing too. What printers do you have?
Nope this a weird coincidence I searched for flexible dragon! I have a dual extruded flashforge dreamer and a ender 3 pro!
@@JH_HAY that IS a crazy coincidence! Sometimes it feels like the claim of 7.7 billion people on the planet is a lie, and in reality there's only about 100,000 at most! LOL
I have this Craftbot Flow IDEX and a Rat Rig V-Minion (amazing little printer). I also have a Voron v0.1 kit and an old Printrbot Metal Plus in the garage.
How do you print multi color things like that?
Rainbow filament. It slowly changes color throughout the spool.
Now I want one too bad I don't have a 3d printer
👍👏
That's a beautiful dragon. Be awesome if it was done in metal (gold, silver, copper, steel?)
That might be possible with the high metal-content filaments (like Virtual Foundry) that print a "green" part that you then debind and sinter in a kiln. Difficult to do with different melting-point metals though. Even if a single metal, getting a flexi model like this to work after the shrinkage could be hard.
Lindo demais
Obrigada
Hey, I don't know much a 3d printing but I'm thinking of getting into it. That's so cool! So can you answer my two questions?
a) I know 3d printing is really slow so how many hours did it take to print this one?
b) What is the cost? Ignoring everything, what is the price of the plastic used in this model printing?
a) This was a long print. The silky filament works best when printed slow, so the total time was about 48 hours. With a different filament type and less concern about getting the best quality, I probably could have cut that in half without trying very hard. There is a big movement in speed printing, but that's generally for advanced users. For example, I just completed building a Ratrig V-Minion that can print very fast (still working out how fast).
b) This used something like $10 of silk filament. Using a less fancy filament would reduce the cost to something like $6-7. Of course, printing smaller = cheaper. At the 182% scale I printed this model, it uses a lot of material. At 100% scale, this would take
Did you print it without supports

It doesn’t need one so long s as you have good bed adhesion (it does suck if a foot comes loose near the end of a print). It’s worth noting this model also doesn’t require any infill either.
