I love how their at ease dialogue is very supportive of kroot and tau unity, but their under fire, panic, and control point dialogue hints at some underlying bitter feelings towards the taught. "Where are the tau guns?!" "Your flag is up....now what."
Such an interesting take on how Kroot would sound. How I interpret it is that it's really the chirping sound that's the Kroot talking and the line itself has that weird artificial sound to it because it's the Tau comms generating a translation into their language (or English in this case for the sake of the player).
I love the Kroot's voices for some weird reason, they sound so good, like they are the one unit I can tolerate listening to forever, that and the Necron Warriors beeping.
+PershingDragoon I've always found them a funny foil to the Tau. The Tau believe they can unite the galaxy, are idealistic, and see their ways as always right. Kroot are pragmatic about their interests, deal with trouble as it comes, and don't really care about anyone, so long as they leave them alone.
+zillafire101 Aye, they are basically mercenaries in the Tau armies. And it's unlikely all of them (if even as much as half of them) buy into the Tau mantra. The Tau -do- regard the Kroot with great respect, but they frown upon many of their habits (the corpse eating being a big one), but they hope that the Kroot will improve themselves over time as they spend time with the Tau and their ways rub off on them.
+Vemund Vigen I also find it funny that the Kroot and Demiurge managed to become close allies before they meet the Tau. I just want to know how the Neo Squats and Carnivorous Space Chickens became best friends.
@Aiden Burbridge From my understanding, Anghkor Prok, the leader of the Kroot, was amazed at the bravery and loyalty of the Tau, and swore his people to them, so long as they received payment and their beliefs were respected. Hence, you have a number of Kroot worlds independent of the Tau Empire, and even whole warbands of Kroot operating outside of the Tau.
@Aiden Burbridge It's possible that this is the case. But I find the explanation that they were simply inspired by the Tau inately to be equally likely. Furthermore if they had been truly manipulated into allying with the Tau, I think they would have abandoned their own ways to a greater extent than they have, and possibly also forego the compensation that they demand. It's also worth noting that the Tau presence in the sector also means the sector is for the most part safe and stable, which the Kroot no doubt sees as an advantage, knowing how many dangers exist out in space and beyond. Ideologies aside, the Kroot need the Tau as much as the Tau need them.
Kroot have really good language comprehension skills. As they're avians, they're adept at picking up and replicating new sounds in a short time, hence why they're such good mercenaries.
@@hund7458 Geedubs really neutered the Kroot in melee to make the Tau an all ranged army. The old Merc Army list on 1d4chan was a good balance of strength and weak armor.
I always thought that when he says "You're strong. It will be good to have that strength." he's talking about how the opponent will have to be strong to fight him. It only occurred to me now that it could also mean that his opponent will make for a good meal since Kroot take on the characteristics of whatever they eat, thus they will gain their opponent's strength which will be good to have.
It matters not. Where there's meat, we sent in Kroot as shock troops. If not, the Tau plasma weaponry will suffice. So yeah, I'd argue their efficiency against Orks makes up for their weakness vs Necrons.
Some Tau fans (like myself) would argue "Why do you need to send well armed soldiers into hand to hand combat when you can send insane carnivorous savages to do it for you?" It's more efficient!
I feel like the Kroots are somewhat based on cannibal tribes, with them feeling like they are getting the power of the enemies they eat. Even thought them eating other races won't make them cannibals. 😅
@@M3Lucky no, the Kroot are able to speak like humans but it takes effort. They don't naturally speak to each other, communicating mainly through body language/clicks/and other gutteral sounds. Their ability to talk as you hear here is essentially them going out of their way to imitate our speech.

I made a squad of these guys eat Boreales corpse. It was glorious.

Sounds like the Tau implanted voiceboxes or translators of some sort into all Kroot.
That's my guess. I think the background cacklings and screeching is the Kroot's real voice.

1) kill someone

Kroot volunteer anyway. As you can tell from the quotes, they enjoy the challenge of close combat. Even if it's an Ogryn trying to bash their head in.

I'm pretty sure they say that when you add a hero to their squad. Unless they're hoping the hero dies and they get to eat them.

These guys are the unsung heroes of this faction, all they need to do is just survive until the Tau have finished clearing the screen of enemies
