I use a paint pen to mark new batteries with date installed and where bought. Helps with warranty and remembering how old they are.7 tractors,a dozer,a backhoe.dump trailer,2 trucks, jeep, welder.and 3 harleys. Hard to keep track of so many batteries lol. Forgot the forktruck, 22 batteries all together. Ugh.

I was just wondering if the two different types of restraints you used on the air conditioners were working against each other and that's why the binders kept coming loose. Dan, I used to haul those units a lot and what I did was tack short pieces of furring strips front, back, and sides of them to my trailer s nailing strips just enough to keep them from working around. Maybe it's the new shoes Dan, same thing happened to me when I was going down the stairs, the soles in my shoes that I was not familiar with, hit the edge of the back step and down I went without anything to grab at, I am not heavy, but I went head on first, hit everything else in my way down with my bony body, but, nothing's broken, so, I just got up and shake the dust off, and pretend nothing had happened, my ears were ringing my face was red and my two little hairs in top of my head were standing up like two little antennas, it happens, so, I figured its not new, nice video Dan, thanks for the ride along. Joe.

I just had 2 comments deleted.. Anyway, I think it was because I mentioned a specific tire brand. So my original comment was that I had bought a tire mounting set off Amazon and it's already paid for itself.. I bought 4 of the same tires you just mentioned and it cost me 2 hours and about $1k for 4 tires. I know not everyone is interested in doing that but as an Owner/Operater it saved me $500 on 4 tires.... Keep trucking, sir..

Dad said he couldn't run flatbeds because he would be out every hundred miles checking the load, for fear of the chains coming loose.
Nephew has a run from Dallas up to Oklahoma and back. All he does is back under the trailer and go, he got a ticket the other day because the trailer's brake cans weren't adjusted correctly. All he does is make sure there is enough brake pad showing. So just after he gets the ticket it comes up on the computer that the trailer will be taken out of service once he gets to his destination because their records show it needs service. He said great why didn't you notice before I got the ticket!

I'm not a professional trucker. But when we would load our tile track down (much like a huge excavator) we would always bind the chains away from the center. You're binding to the middle of the load, if that makes sense. If you spread the chains away from the center to the outside, you will distribute the load out further. Are you walking the load due to that? Move the chains to the outside of the load, not to the inside. Let me know your thoughts?

Danny boy, I think you need 4 independent points of securement on the right side of your load, the way it looks to me, on both units on the right side is, it is anchored to it self, not actually secured to the trailer, even though chain passes under the side rail, in reality the point of anchorage for the right rear corner of A/C unit is the right front of A/C unit, and vice versa. Just my observations and opinion, from a former "Loadmaster".

  • @tiredoldmechanic1791

I was looking at your tie downs and it looked like the ones on the left side were pulling forward and back while the right side chains were pulling straight sideways so the units were moving to the right side which caused the chains to loosen. Wouldn't the right side chains be considered one point of securement? The way the chain is used provides two points but securing both ends with the same binder to my thinking makes it one point of securement. If the binder fails, both the front and rear chain are loose. On your batteries you might want to check the cables. I've seen those flat terminals break inside the plastic. We had a truck with three batteries where only one was connected and it would overcharge that battery. Many RVs use 2 sets of batteries and a battery isolator so when the engine isn't running, power is only drawn from one set and there will always be battery power to start the engine or the APU from the second set of batteries. The isolator allows both sets of batteries to charge when the engine is running. If the isolator fails, it can cause one set of batteries to overcharge.

    Hi Dan,
I think those short straps are stretching, since it seems the most likely, than the steel chains, unless the load binder ratchet locks have vibrated loose to loosen chain side. Take a measuring tape out and measure the tie downs after tightening and see which get longer.
