    I know a thing or two about both building/racing RC, and fabricating things for a living. I have to say that you sir are an absolute artist , and on a level that most folks couldn't properly appreciate much less ever hope to reach. You should put some thought into setting this car up like they did recently with the Indy race in the US. You could charge people to make timed runs over the net. Figure out how much it would take to make it worth your while to do it - then double it. They will either pay it, or they won't. But I'll bet you a pint that they will. :-)

    It just occurred to me, this little RC car is more complicated than nearly every car in existence! You would need to be driving a hybrid capable of running exclusively on motor AND and engine, with fully independent double wishbone suspension, automated steering and semi-automatic gearbox. All of these exist, but I can't think of a car that has all of them together.

    Very nice job!! I love it!!
    But i think a sequential gearbox is better.Easier to handling and requires less simple component.
    You don't need a "length changing" shaft if you using this 3 point type cv joints instead of six balls! The 3 point cv's are designed to compensate the length changing caused by the suspension.The six balls are not tolerate the lateral movement.
    A fixed length shaft + 2 load springs at the ends is enough.And it helps to avoid the "one point wearing in the cv joints.
    Sorry for giving my advice! Just an idea. I wish you a good construction!!!!

  • @Phantom-mk4kp
    @Phantom-mk4kp 4 роки тому +1

    Your problem of the gearbox not shifting to neutral under load is the exact same issue that occurs on mercruiser marine drives in boats. it is caused by an intentional slight taper on the dog clutch faces that pull it in tight under extreme load. Mercruiser get over the problem by coupling the shift cable to box lever via a spring. So on cable movement spring loads, this is detected by a micro switch and ignition spark is cut then the spring relaxes and pulls lever to neutral. In practice the ignition cut is not noticed

    Amazing craftsmanship! Looks like years of head scratching to me. I think with the time and money you could have built your own race car though. Don't get me wrong I build fpv drones or rebuild daily but that's because I wouldn't let my worst enemy ride in a life sized one with me flying. When you finish put an fpv camera in the driver's seat and slap on some fat sharks that way it's easy to control no backwards when it's coming toward you. Have fun and don't crash.

    I love how scale the engine is. I am curious about how the carbon fiber chassis doesn't melt/burn with how close the hot headers and collector sit.

    I sure hope you will consider an epicyclic or planetary transmission where gear selection is smooth and no clashing or having to ease up on the torque to shift I have dreamt of building one for 25+ years now! With the Connelly V-8 and the V-12 factory building such sweet engines there seems to be a market for a 3 or 4 speed auto, shift on the fly reverse I would love to be part of such an endeavor or even just the impetus for it the rc world begs for it! I'm certain that if we build it they will come! Cheers from ElMonte Ca in the USA BP

      At the moment I’m stuck with this gearbox. I’ve got too much time invested in it, so I’m going to try it out. If I could go back 6 months I would do the 3 speed epicyclic box. I could use the air system to run some hydraulic cylinders for the brake bands, and use the electric motors for reverse.

    Hey Keith, I think a lot of us would love a video about your anodizing process. I always loved the look of your parts, they are superb, so if you could share with us your technique it would be perfect, even if I end up without anodizing a thing 😆

    Use an ignition cut when shifting gears

    Its quite normal that dogring gearbox wont shift whit the load on, you have make shiftcut to ignition to change a gears. But i think you are ready sort that out.. I love this project, keep up the good work!
