It's society. In Japan they don't have garbage cans or garbage on the streets. Everyone holds onto their garbage until they get home and wouldn't think of littering. They actually respect where they live.
they used to have trash cans on almost every corner. then the city took them away because people would leave their trash at them. why. because recology is expensive for people. then the city doesnt want people to take the cans because the city wants the recycling money. the city is more concerned about making money than keeping it clean.
The Public Works spokesperson stated that the issue with the old trash bins was that people would rummage through them and throw the trash on the ground in search of recyclables, and to prevent that they need locking trash bins.
@@carpelunam Sorry you must be misreading my comment. What i meant is that we as a society must learn to be clean and respectful to not trash our environment. We must learn to clean up after ourselves and not litter. I did not say anything negative about garbage workers.
@idontmindifisaid I visited Tokyo for 2 weeks last year. I saw few to no trash cans around. There was very little litter. I was told that people do not litter and they bring home their trash. Even the few homeless I saw kept their area clean and neat. Indeed, it is a cultural and behavioral issue.
What a waste. I see a lot of homeless collecting cans and at least that's getting cleaned up. I would've liked a simple design that allowed patrons to separate cans/bottles for the .05 that homeless people could turn in for cash So then they wouldn't want to take that away. And a regular compartment for all other trash.
This total nonsense. Why is there only one trash can anyway? There should be rows of them. We did it before with recycling recycling bins included. I have investigated this issue when I lived in the Sunset when they kept taking trash recepticles away. Ready: city trash cans leads to larger debri dumping; Waste Management isnt contractred to service to each receptacle in top of commercial, office and residential obligations. They are contracted separately and rarely frequently (obviously). Fair complaint: strewn trash from open bins then becomes referred to DPW (that lady). DPW does the big stuff and debris and appliances (yes they fo that well at times); events are separate and the city and county does not fund enough to have the Park and Rec, Neighborhood Business Associations, DPW, and Recology WM service as needed. They all triage trash services. Japantown pays extra to look the way it does. Alot more.
I visited Japan a few years ago and was surprised to find no public trash cans. I was informed that most of them were removed after a terrorist attack that occurred about 30 years ago. However, the streets are not strewn with litter because the citizens carry small trash bags which they would discard at home.
* If people would respect the streets like their backyard and pick up there garbage after themselves and not allow any strangers on their backyard only then the city would be a cleaner place as well *???*
Every day I walk around the city, San Francisco and Oakland, and cannot find a trashcan on every corner. There’s probably one within every 2-3 blocks which is ridiculous.
Less trash cans and smaller openings, The more trash you are going to have on the streets. I myself don't want to put my hands in a small tiny dirty cubby just to throw away my trash. That's Crazy! And if the streets are filled with junkies you are going to have to have pay for street cleaners. And why would the rich not want a homeless person to make a buck for recycling and doing a good deed to help better our environmental issues. Something is not right?
I watch people eat in their vehicles, when done they just throw their trash right there , and drive away. It’s so disgusting. Where I live we have big trash Ben’s , people will throw trash all around, the Ben’s. They will throw their dog poop bag on top of trash bans . It’s so so sad and disgusting 🤮.
Maybe they can just add another tax until they figure out this thing. If there is another delay just tax the people of san francisco again and claim its to help solve the problem.. Maybe 10k garbage cans will do it. /s
I see Delivery drivers chuck their trash out their car windows constantly. Even when they're stopped and taking a break, there'll be a trash can right in front of them and they'll still throw their trash in the street, sidewalk, curb, etc. People are trash. No manners. In other countries. you get a huge fine for littering. Walk anywhere in and around the tenderloin and the amount of trash everywhere is sickening.
It appears to me that anything and everything that is done by and in the city is always initially overpriced, takes forever, then becomes even more expensive. While in some other countries and cities, the goal is to become more efficient, ours is to become more incompetent and wasteful.
Please explain : What's with the KIOSKS ? What are they achieving? Who funded them ? Do they have a PURPOSE? Or is it a commercial for expensive brands??? Why do they exist?
Those people need do busy-work to justify their employment. Defraud the public, grift, hire the best friend. But big smile as it happens, as that is how the con works.
Big Bellies were great! Always clean, practical, and easily accessed, plus the solar power option. Not some weird, dysfunctional City design. Of course Peskin would stunt them for a never ending money suck…
Wrong buddy. Quickly beat up, overstuffed red light always on. They were part of the city trying to techtrify everything after the financial crisis. They had a paging system that wasn't contracted to be serviced. Waste of time and money.🚮🗑️
What a waste of money.
9 million dollars. That is insane.

Japan is 99.9% Japanese
Solved your dilemma
They’re VERY CIVILIZED Japanese!!! 😂😂😂🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️
@@Charles-d4e3b What does that have to do with it? The behavior is due to culture, not ethnicity.
@@theotheleo6830 agreed. And the 99.9% culture of Japan is the Japanese culture as well. Kinda hand in hand there

BINGO!!!!!
The Public Works spokesperson stated that the issue with the old trash bins was that people would rummage through them and throw the trash on the ground in search of recyclables, and to prevent that they need locking trash bins.
This needs to be audited just like
San Jose they don’t want to solve the problem this is exactly how the politicians want it
junkies dont use trash bins
They rummage through them.
I think its a cultural and behavioral issue. If we all grow up respecting the environment, trash cans are not issue.
As someone who actually went out to pick up trash for 2 years, you have no freaking idea what your talking about.

There is only one party in charge in San Francisco, it's the party that makes every problem worse, any guesses?
We need A LOT more garbage cans across the city, period! And they need to be functional, not pretty...
3000 dollars for a trash can. What a joke
If they got rid of all of the trash in Frisco, there would be less than 100 people left.
Clearly you’ve never been to SF. Don’t ever call Frisco.

Put back the green metal one with more of them and service them. You had them in Mission Bay stay on it
Starts at home and at school. School system is failing on educating and teaching people
Absolutely! Along with respect that's gone out the door.
9 million could keep a school open for two years in most red states.
WTF $3000K For that metal trash.? make in china cost only $500.
Y’all even grift up the garbage too?? Is there any aspect of life in California that isn’t a government scam?

Just let people freely get the recycling easily. I think that's how it is in Japan
Only in San Francisco can something as simple as putting up trashcans would be mired in political bs.
Let me get this straight you can't go to Lowe's and pick up a trash can for 50 bucks. No wonder why San Francisco is a crap show
