I’ll be honest: after the April MSG run in 2022, I was ready to be done with Phish. The music had gotten to where the shows were “fun if you don’t take this too seriously.” Uninspiring jams and palpably slackening energy onstage. But starting with that year’s New Year’s run and through this year, years of decline seem to have reversed. They have so much energy and creative push; they’ve settled into a mature, exploratory style of jamming; they clearly are still getting something out of getting there with us. I had an absolute blast at every show I saw this year - and they’ve silenced that jaded cynic in my head. Love these guys.
The fact that Mexico had some of the jams of the year was a great sign. Really solid year of Phish. This was just solid year with oldies and new songs in the right proportions. In 2025 I'd like to see some more unique jamming. Maybe some more darkness.
And Trey debuted five songs in May that haven't been played by Phish yet. Maybe they're just Trey songs, but "Long Long Time," "Snowflakes in the Sand," "Mists of the Past," "It's Happening Again," and my favorite, "The Kid in the Sky."
Mexico, Sphere, Festival, great summer tour, Dicks, strong closing at MSG. I mean, that is a pretty hefty year. Not to mention the other stuff band members were doing. I didn't see a lot of shows this year but caught Sphere and I saw Trey at Wolftrap with the National Symphony Orchestra and thought that was great too. Looking forward to Phish playing Richmond Virginia for the first time since 1994! They are building a new amphitheater and I've heard from a few sources that the dates might be 8/1 - 8/3. I really hope that's true.... especially since they haven't been at Hampton since 2018! Agreed with all you said here, the new tunes are settling in nicely. Another prolific year for the P-fish.
They were playing very tight in 2024. They were all working together to not make as many mistakes as 2022 and 2023. Not mentioning Trey had a great year, seems like he was practicing at the barn a lot. I don’t know what to say. Boom for an amazing phish year!👊
I really enjoy some of the new songs. The song "Monsters" might be my favorite Trey song. And, as we do age physical things can come into play. Many Phish songs are very complicated. Maybe the ability to really play them is influenced by said physical complications. IMO at 67 i have never ever seen a band play live like these guys. The interplay between the members is quite special. I am always excited to see Phish. For the fact you never know what is going to be played. Here's to a great Phish 2025.
Completely agree that the solid group of new & new-ish tunes has been truly refreshing. Also the very best shows/runs/years seem to have just a little extra energy, precision, creativity in the playing. Very difficult to pinpoint for a non-musician like me but it definitely comes through. I feel like much of 2024 had that.
I think Scent of a Mule and PYITE are just too much for Ttey these days. Overall, it seems like they did a great job mixing the classics with better new stuff. They are still evolving with a breakout year for MFMF, and they took Chalkdust and Simple way out there for all-time versions. I don't think I'll ever understand the Julius hate. Suspicious Minds in 2025 for the 30 year bust out.
2024 was the best year since the end of the 90's. 2012, 2015 and Bakers Dozen plus the summer/fall of 21 were great as well. Trey's old school guitar tone is back. Much better for the written parts like the Curtain with etc. They sounded well-rehearsed.
Eh, WGTYM is straight garbo, Monsters is MEH... was an ok year, but they are WELL past their prime. They were just okay this year, still can't jam for the life of em. Phish was amazing but have not been good in many years now. It happens! Remember them for what they were!
Why would you watch this video if that’s your opinion? That seems like really odd behavior. Well unless you’re just so pathetic you enjoy shitting on things other people like just to be miserably misanthropic. Hopefully that’s not the case

I thought 2022 was pretty awesome too.

The 2024 coverage was amazing, dude.

Dark phish is the best.
Yes Mexico said it all very early….Mexico was never epic until this run
idk what FZ is talking about with EDM... also no mention of Mondegreen, the first festival in a long time. Boom
Nah, I had a Monde show as one of my favorites of the summer and probably said something about the Fuego
Your hats tripping me out bro, its all wavy and shit - it looks like that old school mouse arrow leaving tracers 💥
Hahahahah
The Sphere Lifeboy was great…and I’m an atheist.

Kid in the Sky needs some love, that song hasn’t left my rotation since its debut. That spring TAB tour was pure heat
@@theguywithpantsso good.
They certainly caught my attention again... I hadn't seen them since 2000 yet I caught them twice this year!
welcome back friend
I think playing the sphere had a positive effect on the band for the rest of the year

Everybody keeps saying they went "full EDM." If that was EDM it was lame. It was definitely Phish EDM.
Yes, it was lame Phish edm
Just watched the Hood from 12/30/24 again pretty awesome
Hope all you Chompers are good!!😊Kaboom 🤯👊🏻
Go Buckeyes 🅾️🌰‼️🅾️‼️
I think Drew Carey summed it up last April 😂there’s just no comparison with what they’re doing to any other band out there.
What would he know about what other bands are doing?
Boom!!!
Boooom
Hit the shuffle button even more! Let's keep is up for 2025. Kaboom 👊

bwahahaha. Look at this phish head call this EDM. lololololol. phish is outdated, slow, and yawn. I just fell asleep thinking about it.
Boo this man.
You love Phish
Lol outdated
