    God, it’s good to see you again. I drifted off into learning copywriting, but getting serious with voiceover, as I’ve been in this world in the background for years.
    I fell asleep to your demo reel on your website.
    In my opinion, you thrive in meditation and corporate narration.

    Hello Angela. If the person that contacted me to narrate the book differs from the author, would that raise a "red flag" as possible scam? Or is this a common practice?

    • @VoiceOverAngela
      @VoiceOverAngela  6 місяців тому +1

      This is where you do your due diligence as the professional. You ask questions. Are they the publisher? Are they using a pen name? Do they have written permission from the author to produce this audiobook? Search the author out and ask them directly if this is them, or if they're aware of this.

      I don't think I would hit the panic button just yet. With the state of the world today, they could be sick or caring for someone who is. Maybe they are on holiday, it could be a number of things. I would say, after a week, reach out to ACX to assist. The book will not go into QA and retail status without approval from the RH or confirmation that you were paid (if PFH). So, their book is not going anywhere until they respond.

    Thank you for the information. I hope you will cover this in a future video, but with 35 hours towards an audiobook with a $500 return the rate is about $14.30 per hour. Is this common and are straight royalties best?

    • @VoiceOverAngela

      I think I was giving a beginner rate example in this video. Ideally, your rate will increase and the total production time will decrease over time. Royalty Share is good for a book that sells really well.

    I find myself wondering what the criteria are for detecting potential scammers... These tools are black-box approaches that simply return a flag, but it still seems like anyone could just post as if they're the author and sneak past the filters. Do you have any tips/resources for researching manually? What to watch out for, etc.

    • @VoiceOverAngela
      @VoiceOverAngela  Рік тому +1

      If you're unsure, or something isn't adding up during your audition phase, you can research the author and reach out to them to verify. There is no sure fire way to weed out scammers yet, you must do your due diligence as the narrator.

      Hi! I think treating the walls around your recording space is a better investment and you may end up saving money. It may work in some temporary situations, but you can always use nail hole filler in the walls when you leave the apartment. ;)

    Hi Angela 😊 I’ve been doing my diligent research about ACX. Do VO narrators typically use a different name for privacy. If so do you know how I change that in the system?

    • @VoiceOverAngela
      @VoiceOverAngela  2 роки тому +4

      Not all narrators use a pseudonym, but it is allowed. When you submit a finished audiobook, you have the option to use a different name at that point. The system will ask you to confirm the name. Just be sure to let the RH know that you are using a different name upfront just in car they are having a custom book cover made for the audiobook.

    OK, a question about fiction narrations. Is it better to do all the characters in one hit. For instance do all the lines for the talking horse, then all the lines for the taking dog etc. Then record the rest of the book and when a character line appears insert that into your narration track. I imagine in a good DAW that this is possible.
    p.s ACX is of no use to me as people outside of the US or Ireland [?] don't get to be narrators. Your loss Amazon; I wil.l fin d another site.

    Can you please do a video explaining/showing how to do a live recorded session? Like literally how you do it. Meaning you book a gig, its a live session via Zoom. I have a laptop and my phone. I normally read the script off my phone and work my daw on my laptop. If its a live session over Zoom should I have the zoom session opened on my laptop and my daw opened on my laptop? Or just have my camera on but put my daw full screen so i can stop and make edits as the client directs? What about headphones? How do you hear the client? Do you have one ear on and one off? Are you editing in real time? If not, what are you doing to remember what takes the client likes? I use Audition. Please explain how this process works technically, preferably sloooowly and then please explain how a VO is to manage all these duties while remaining professional? I turned down a job bc it was a live session bc i dont know how to technically handle it and be the talent. Please help😊

    Hello Angela, Thank you for all the informative videos on audio book narrating. I am a newbie to audio book narrating and got a project. The reason I got the project is because I discovered a small mistake in the script and the author (hope it is?) said he would like me to audition because of all the people I was the only one to mention this error. Anyway, the author is very communicative through ACX, but now thinking of scammers, makes me doubt anyone now. When you say reachout to the author, did you mean outside of ACX? If so how do I find the/ir contact information? (I am not able to find any contact information outside of ACX). On Google books did see the author associated with this title I am narrating for and some other books written by the author. If it were not for these scam enlightening videos, I would not doubt the person I am corresponding to as author, but scammers are very smart, but the person could be legit too in my case. I noticed the same small font bold error in the sneak-peak of the book in Amazon that I noticed in the manuscript, and also noticed the error in the audition script still in the manuscript. I also found another paragraph that did not make sense to me and when I asked the author through ACX, he told me what the actual paragraph should be. This kind of makes me feel he may be legit, but I don't know. Anyway, I have asked the author to update the manuscript with the corrections and let me see what he does. Sorry for the long write-up, but do you have any feeling on whether I am working with a scammer based on what I wrote?
    Also, what happens if i am working with a scammer, if ACX can pay the scammer money (because of which they are scamming), then doesn't the narrator also get paid when the scammer gets paid? I am talking of Royalty Share setup. Pardon my ignorance, but trying to understand this scam thing better? Thank you.
