    The Clara Ward Singers' do 2 numbers, "Didn't It Rain" & "The Old Landmark," for their 1965 appearance on SHINDIG. My apologies for the quality, as the first clip is lower than the 2nd and the video is not as clear. I hope that you'll still enjoy!

    When one wig is not enough, you wear three. Everything about this video is perfect.

    Love them. Clara Ward and her singers were probably one of the first groups to be that energetic and have choreography. Thank you so much for this upload!!!

    When did Mildred leave the group?

    • @Rowoches
      @Rowoches  6 років тому +1

      Mildred left in either 1968 or 1969 and Agnes Jackson replaced her. I vaguely remember hearing an interview with Agnes Jackson years ago and she said she came to the group in 1969.

    • @mrpeach2023
      @mrpeach2023 6 років тому +2

      Rowoches Do you know by any chance that if Agnes is alive or not?

    • @Rowoches
      @Rowoches  6 років тому +2

      Joshua Mercer: Agnes is still living. She is in St. Louis, MO.

      Rowoches Ok it kind of surprised me since this whole time I thought she was the oldest in the group. But then I thought about past members.

      Why did Mildred leave the group?

  • @mrpeach2023
    @mrpeach2023 6 років тому +2

    Malvylin (or however you spell it) leave the group because in one of Clara Ward’s songs from her last concert in 1972, she called the names of the members and she wasn’t mentioned. I remember in both Traveling Shoes and Meeting Tonight/Come in my Room I heard two tambourines being used but Mavylin wasn’t there by that time. Then who was the second besides Madeline beating the mess out of that tambourine but in a good way.

    • @Rowoches
      @Rowoches  4 роки тому +3

      The same set of singers didn't always travel together, even though you would see some of the same members in pictures, etc. Malvilyn wasn't present as you've observed; Alice Houston is the other person who would play the tambourine, as can be seen on the Flip Wilson Show when Malvilyn is singing "Dry Bones."

    The second song sounded better when James Brown sung it in blues brothers

    • @Rowoches
      @Rowoches  5 років тому +2

      I've heard many people say the same. The Ward Singers are basically the originators of the song, but during Aretha Franklin's AMAZING GRACE album, as well as the BLUES BROTHERS (same choir as on Aretha's album), they gave it a more contemporary sound for that time.
