I was lucky enough to see the first concert in Austin for the release of the Ah Via Music tour in 1990. It felt then as if we were going to see Mozart-- or something on that level. The whispers around town before the album release were that Eric was testing every amp, all the pedals, various cables and trying out everything at different voltages and mic placements -- and that is why it took so long to get the record done. The concert sounded exactly like the album--I mean exactly. I have never heard a concert before or since match the album so well--especially with all analog gear. U2 on opening night at the Sphere might be the closest scenario since that 1990 concert. And when Eric played "Song for george," the acoustic song, and didn't slow down at all--that is what impressed me most at the time.
Got to see that same tour when he played at a theater at San Jose State University. Satch was also on the ticket and I'm pretty sure the headliner was Oingo Boingo. My daughter bought the tickets and she had recently turned me on to Oingo Boingo.
He’s the greatest over all guitarist to come along since EVH! Both of those guys somehow make the guitar sound bigger and more than what it really is. Like they’re Aliens from another planet. They both have an original unique approach to the instrument that nobody else has as well. The first time we heard Eric which for most of us was Cliffs and we were totally blown away because it just sounded completely different from every other guitarist on the scene that ironically where ripping off Eddie.
If you haven't listened to Andy's new album, Charisma, go do it! He is an incredible musician, teacher, and stringed-instrument advocate. So happy you had him on.
Wrapped in a Cloud from EJ vol 1, From My Heart from Bloom, Soundtrack Life from The Book of Making, Gift of Love from EJ vol II, Love will never say goodbye from The Book of Making. Goodness that was hard. Off the top of my head, those would be five extra songs in addition to Andy’s as a way of introducing Eric Johnson. His music is one of the best ways of experiencing joy. He’s my favorite artist.
EJ's big secret weapon is that he's a highly skilled pianist. He approaches playing guitar like it's a piano. Plus, all his fingers are like 8 inches long. 😂😢

Loved the format of this episode.
Love this! Andy is wonderful 🎉🎸🎶
Not “Cliffs of Dover”.
“Trademark” is the song to learn.🎸
Camels night out is a banger
Battle we have one is a great song as well.
Man, you guys in the USA were definitely behind in technology, as I had the G3 DVD that I bought in England! 😂
I had a G3 dvd in the US almost 30 years ago
Eric Johnson = True Musician
Isn't Emerald Eyes on Tones, though? Perhaps it was on an earlier album as well but def on Tones.
There’s a version on seven worlds album
Was wondering when y’all would get to the 335 era…….😊
My senior year in college my guitar teacher played Zap for me and I was like: WHO IS THIS? I was sold.
Eric Johnson? Check out Cliffs of Dover on the album Ah Via Musicom.

He is choosen 101th?
"101" is in reference to the first course of a subject, as in 'the basics'

You need to cover young and up-n-coming guitarists.
Andy luvs that thumbnail of himself from a decade (or more) ago.
