I find the German configuration of the timpani drums very odd and difficult because it is opposed to all keyboard instruments which which have the lower notes on the left side of the player and higher notes on the right side of the player. I much prefer the proper American configuration of the timpani drums
For those with a stronger right hand, the german setup has the advantage that the lower drum (which requires a bit more velocity to speak) is on the right side of the player
never seen a timpani masterclass before, and I think it's a great idea. (I'm not a timp player but I play drums in a rock band)
Guess this is a loss
I am guessing a good timpanist must have perfect or near perfect pitch?
Nah. You only need relative pitch (strong understanding of intervals) to be a great timpanist...perfect pitch doesn't hurt though 😂
Looks like a banger to me-I am sorry but wheres the tonal aspect of his performance-Teach the kids the art of making beautiful tonal sounds
Good luck getting that with British timpanists!

For me as someone who comes from playing the drumset i much prefer the german configurstion as it is like you would arrange toms on a drumset
