- Hello everybody, and welcome to the fourth episode of the WoW Rocks series! Today, we're going to take a look at the tranquil land of Azshara, a maritime zone in WoW Classic that is definitely overlooked and underrated! And hey, you might even get a special look at the fabled Azshara Crater! ;)
*Apologies for some small audio discrepancies, I recorded in two different sessions so the volumes may be slightly different but hopefully it's not too significant!
Upcoming video release schedule:
8/5/22 - WoW Rocks Ep. 5 - The Geology of...?
8/12/22 - WoW Rocks Ep. 6 - The Geology of...?

I like your converging moons theory, but I wonder if the name of the Bay of Storms hints at a simpler, if less interesting answer. Regular violent storms could send large waves far inland, and (at least from what I remember) stormy weather effects are very common in the zone.
I like that idea too! Azshara is one of the closest zones to the Maelstrom, so it could be that its close proximity, combined with things like ocean and wind currents, would result in massive storms as well! Thanks for the input Zakary!! :)
Azshara was one of my favorite zones pre-Cata 😩 I loved most of the high-level zones, but Azshara stuck out because of the notable loot! Leatherworking patterns, enchanting mats, high lvl chests, demonic runes, & whelpling pets 🥰
It was also a zone usually teeming with farming bots, so it was about the only time I would PvP 😅
Haha, thank you for the comment! Azshara is definitely one of my favorite out of the way zones :)
In cata, the goblins mined the sacred priceless crater/ridge down to a quarry, to help build a “pleasure palace” and rocket taxi
/facepalm lol
The night elves wanting to preserve and research the sacred site: *bruh* XD
Been playing this game forever and it's so cool how these videos add depths to zones I've frequented over the years! Just a well paced video with a nice atmosphere too, keep it up!
Thank you for the kind words! :) I appreciate the feedback!
I have been binge watching all your videos today ! They are great fun !
I'm glad you're enjoying them! :)
I know Azshara may lack on content, and seems unfinished in classic.. but imo thats also a contributing factor to what makes it great. The feelings of solitude and peace is amazing. Its also unique autumn like enviroment and ancient ruins is so cool;
even though falling off a cliff and then have to find your way back could be frustrating to say it the least. Love Azshara
I totally agree! It's probably the most isolated zone apart from pre-AQ Silithus but it's still awesome in its own way! :D
I kind of like that Azshara is an abandoned zone, it sort of fits with this "former glory" theme of the ruins. Like if this place was settled by large Horde and Alliance forces, it would take away the strange yet sylvan and enchanting feel of the zone
I agree so much! :D The mystery and loneliness really help the zone have that unique feel. :)
Stumbled upon your channel today. That tide, moon orbits and alignment bit was great! I Going to gobble up the rest of this playlist!
Enjoy!! I'm glad you like these ones... I have 9 total geo vids so far! :D
Love your stuff more and more with each video. Keep up the good work! I want to see this channel get big and see some cool content
Thank you so much! Comments like these motivate me to continue this hobby... I appreciate it :)
Aszahra is just a Very wierd but beautiful calm area …
I couldn't agree more! Definitely less developed than it could have been, but I think I like it better that way than what happened in Cataclysm! All the goblin additions made the zone seem more like a meme.
I’m not sure if someone else has mentioned it but I learned that the moons line up every 430 years from an aspects video I watched. A dragon can only become an aspect when the moons line up, and the last time this happened, Kalecgos became the blue aspect.
Edit: omg I didn’t even get 4 minutes in when I wrote this comment 😂
Haha, thanks for mentioning that! :) I do try to incorporate research when I can… I did not know about the Dragon Aspect part of that lore! Very cool
Nice video keep it up dude!
Thanks Skepperoni! :)
Another great video! Keep up the great work!
Thank you Cheezey!! I appreciate it :)
One of the prettiest zones for me (pre cata). Shame there were so few quests there. Also it seemed they didn't finish making this zone in vanilla.
Agreed! I’ll probably make more videos on it in the future but there is definitely a lot of evidence to suggest there was supposed to be more here!
Keep up the good work!
Thanks Giorno!!
Ashzara is for sure one of the prettiest zones but it's a b*^ch to navigate and get around with all barriers and ravines. I spent so much time there on my Shaman back in Classic to farm demonic runes from the satyr camps. 😅
True! I always hated falling down into one of those ravines and spending 10+ minutes finding a way out while dodging naga, murlocs etc. XD
I was questing through the cataclysm version of Azshara today on retail. I like the old version better. (I've played WoW since BC and therefore I know the old version too).
I prefer the old version as well! ... I personally think Blizzard went a little too far in making the goblins the "joke" characters instead of focusing on the more serious parts of their lore like their battles with trolls, the intricacies of their trading empire, etc... hence why Azshara is now a big rollercoaster zone instead of the lonely Elven ruins zone. :')
@@Jediwarlock exactly :) I do like Dragonflight and my guild is on retail. That's why I mostly play retail too and not on the classic servers. But Azshara is one of the zones where I really miss the old version
Azshara having a (if former) major hub of the Night Elfs would have solved a prime plothole in WoW.
Namely, where the hell where the Night Elfen settlements actually? For a continent that was previously settled only by Tauren and Night Elfs, there is a complete lack of Night Elfen cities and villages.
Teldrassil was created after Warcraft 3 as a replacement of the one that Archimond blew up, so without the Tree there is no Darnassus, raising the question of what was the capital of the Elfs before that.
Apart from that, at least in game, the only other settlement we have is Astranaar, as everything else are just single buildings or post Warcraft 3 like Auberdine in Darkshore.
Night elfs, for such a major power have a suprising lack of settled places, infact they had virtually non seemingly
Definitely an interesting problem to think about! I know the elves' numbers were diminished after the War of the Ancients / the Sundering but I agree there really should have been more cities 10,000 years later besides, what, Astranaar and Auberdine? Maybe after the Night Elf / High Elf Empire collapsed Blizzard really wanted to convey that they live more in harmony with nature in smaller colonies instead of developing mega cities? Not sure, but I can definitely see this turning into a future video! :)
Seeing as there was no real settlement in WC3 during the NE campaign, I kind of just assumed they lived in the wilds for the most part (besides the Barrow Downs of course). Post-destruction the Night Elves changed their ways a lot. Opening up roles normally not done (fem-druids, male priests, etc.), creating permanent settlements, interacting with outsiders, etc. The destruction of the world tree didn't just end their immortality, it forced them to restructure their entire culture.
Dire Maul...?
@@DrewPicklesTheDark Aside from Ashenvale and Darkshore, the elves had a lot of large settlements in modern-day Felwood (at the time, just the northern parts of Ashenvale), Hyjal, and Moonglade. So they had quite a few settlements before Teldrassil, but a lot of them got destroyed in the 3rd war.
Azshara was my favorite zone until Cata when it got ruined.
Agreed!! It is one of the coolest out-of-the-way zones in Classic... and then from what I have seen it is changed into a goblin resort/theme park which is not the most ideal fate for such an ancient zone :'(
Agree cata ruined the game and this zone.
