Exactly this series is great so far. It's capturing a lot of Salena and her family that the mainstream audience never knew about. The movie was beautifully crafted and is so precious but 2 hours was not enough to tell the entire story. Let give the family credit for the struggle and perseverance in the beginning of their journey.

Thank you! I finally figured out why the actress was irking me. She is too animated on stage, all her actions are almost over exaggerated to the point of childishness. Whereas the Selena I remembered was a cool professional feel on stage. The actress isn't too bad it just feels like she is trying too hard and is over excited.
They gotta exaggerate the movements cause they’re acting out a story. JLo was the same way for the movie. Side by side the actors movements are always much more animated and sharp than the real footage.

She backup danced for Janet Jackson, New Kids on the Block & was a Fly Girl in 'In Living Color'. She comes from the world of dance & made it look smooth. Christian looks like she's never danced before in her entire life I'm sorry. I'm not trying to be mean but she just wasn't the right girl for this, she looks way too amateur & out of her element as Selena. I don't see Selena in her anywhere in any way.

J Lo had the same body type and she could do the dance moves well, and she had a cute laugh like Selena did. They’ve cut her husband out of everything and that is not honoring their daughter, because Chris was someone that she loved so much. So the movie was good enough for me. yes, it’s good that we’re still thinking about Selena today but I don’t need a Netflix series to think about Selena. I play her music all the time and I’m from Iowa. I’m currently wrapped up in a Selena blanket that my girlfriend sent me from Colorado. Since the pandemic had started, people are doing blogs, and they’re reacting to music that people are suggesting and a lot of it is Selena so people that weren’t even born in her lifetime are loving her, which is really awesome. She would be so honored to know how much we still love her to this day. I think that her father wants to continue making money off of her. They said back when she died they wanted to make the movie to dispel any negative rumors, so why do they need this Netflix series now. Money!!

I just wish they got an actress that was a little pudgier, Selena had soft rounder features and was thicker in the thighs which is a staple of her look, the actress is beautiful but way too angular in her features, i with they werent afraid to get an actress with a little weight

I feel that after JLo made the movie Selena so famous that all the other actresses they get to play Selena in future projects they tend to look for actresses who favor more JLo than the real Selena. Even the mannerisms they seem to be going more for JLo’s interpretation of Selena rather than Selena herself. This has bothered me everytime a new “Selena” movie etc comes out.
I love how Christian Serratos personified Selena WHEN SHE WASN'T performing. She couldn't nail the Selena spirit of performance. However, I love that we have these videos to go back and see the real thing.

Christian did a good job some dance moves for the la bamba had to be amplified due to them using the remix and not the original live version so it was faster.

That was intentional, I think it was her dad but he said Selena had trouble lip syncing in the beginning so they did that in the series to be as accurate as possible
J-LO pretty much nailed Selena's movement, even the little gestures. Christian tries hard but it's not the same. Of course it's harder for her because her performance can be compared to both the actual Selena and J-Lo's in the movie. I saw somewhere that the movie did actually skip something quite essential, and I see that the series didn't pay attention to it as well: Selena held the microphone so close to her mouth, that it left lipstick marks on it. I didn't see it neither in the movie nor in the series so far.

When I first saw Christian’s version I was like: 🤨 (Especially with the dancing) But then seeing it next to Selena herself I’m able to see where she got the moves and it’s actually looks amazing especially with this new prospective. (My only complaints are the wigs cuz,,,) but yeah either way I’m excited to see the new series, (Im especially excited to see the outfits and her teenage years).
@@Bardock025 I think It’s because when ..for example, when they did the movie, they paid a lot of attention to detail when it came to her outfits, her hair, her overall look... they tried to get everything as close to how it was, while in the series, it looks like they may have taken a few liberties with her look, or its not as exact as it could be... which isn’t to say its all bad, but i believe maybe many were expecting that same level of detail in the series...
If that was the case, im pretty sure they tried to recreate her outfits in a way christian looked good. Maybe she does not look good in the camera with exactly the same hair or something
The crowd in the original was huge and the show they make it seem as the crowd was boring but you can see they are packed literally it was her as the headline and people loved it plus it’s the middle of the day and they are squished together so of course they are not going to dance Selena in Mexico especially border town knew who she was I hate how the show makes them seem that she’s a nobody in Mexico by that time the show doesn’t say but she already had 3 albums out one with Freddie records and and the other 2 with gp records but they don’t say any of that

The fact that the series chose to pick a tiny, scrawny girl and not a thick and curvy girl is body shaming. Selena’s family are producers, not the directors of the series. Plus, AQ Jr was a producer in the 1997 Selena film. This isn’t their first rodeo.

They got her hair color right in this clip. Selena’s hair looks darker here though due to the high contrast on the original video. If you look at photos her hair was a light redish brown color the way the actress has it.

Honestly I like the series way more than the movie. The only reason people are shitting on the series is cuz EVERY DETAIL of Selena’s life that we didn’t even know about was touched on in the series whereas the movie only highlighted moments we KNEW about already. The “Selena” movie was like a Cliff’s Notes version of her life. The series was a detailed novel broken down into episodes.
I feel like they should of got someone that matched the age of Selena at this stage in her life. This woman looks too old to play Selena & doesn't really look like Selena. Maybe they were just in a hurry to make this series.

I thought I wouldn't like the series but I ended up binge watching it and by the end I was like "oh no, keep going" lol I'm a huge Selena fan and no, Christian Serratos does not look like Selena but I feel she did her justice, everyones acting was good and tbh, I liked how Chris Perez was portrayed in the series than in the movie. In the movie they made him seem ditzy at times 😄 What i took from this show was this, the story telling was much better and ofc much more detail, I felt they did a great job portraying the characters. By the end of the series I got used to Serratos' Selena I didn't see Serratos anymore. And ofc she doesn't look like Selena, but Selena was so unique that it's hard to find someone who will look exactly like her, not even JLo looked like Selena. But personally I thought the series wasn't bad and I'm looking forward to the second half. Oh and thanks to this series it has made my teenage daughter a Selena fan 😊

I was already skeptical about this, and this just made my skepticism WORSE. Christian, hunny, you are a beautiful girl, and I love u in the Walking Dead. But this isn’t doing it for me! AT ALL. Selena was one of a kind. She had an undeniable stage presence and charisma. Most importantly, she had rhythm and soul. That is something that JLo captured and EXECUTED masterfully. Christian not only has to fill Selena’s shoes, but she has to live up to Jlo’s performance as Selena also. So far, she is not doing too well (judging from this clip). But I will wait to watch the series before I write her off completely.

I really hate her so much, especially when I think of how hard Selena worked in her life to get where she was, and still remained kind and humble. She took all of her dreams away. I can’t even say her name because I believe that when she knew that she was gonna be a nobody because Selena was done with her after her attempt to get her to believe that she was raped, and the doctor said no evidence of that she couldn’t handle that and now by killing her, her name is forever linked to Selena.
This actually happens on my hometown, Matamoros Tamaulipas. I was 7 years old, but I founded here on UA-cam.

I feel that after JLo made the movie Selena so famous that all the other actresses they get to play Selena in future projects they tend to look for actresses who favor more JLo than the real Selena. Even the mannerisms they seem to be going more for JLo’s interpretation of Selena rather than Selena herself. This has bothered me everytime a new “Selena” movie etc comes out.

She over simplified the dance which takes away the impact of her confidence & charisma
Christian did a good job some dance moves for the la bamba had to be amplified due to them using the remix and not the original live version so it was faster.

That was intentional, I think it was her dad but he said Selena had trouble lip syncing in the beginning so they did that in the series to be as accurate as possible
J-LO pretty much nailed Selena's movement, even the little gestures. Christian tries hard but it's not the same. Of course it's harder for her because her performance can be compared to both the actual Selena and J-Lo's in the movie. I saw somewhere that the movie did actually skip something quite essential, and I see that the series didn't pay attention to it as well: Selena held the microphone so close to her mouth, that it left lipstick marks on it. I didn't see it neither in the movie nor in the series so far.

@@Bardock025 I think It’s because when ..for example, when they did the movie, they paid a lot of attention to detail when it came to her outfits, her hair, her overall look... they tried to get everything as close to how it was, while in the series, it looks like they may have taken a few liberties with her look, or its not as exact as it could be... which isn’t to say its all bad, but i believe maybe many were expecting that same level of detail in the series...
If that was the case, im pretty sure they tried to recreate her outfits in a way christian looked good. Maybe she does not look good in the camera with exactly the same hair or something

The crowd in the original was huge and the show they make it seem as the crowd was boring but you can see they are packed literally it was her as the headline and people loved it plus it’s the middle of the day and they are squished together so of course they are not going to dance Selena in Mexico especially border town knew who she was I hate how the show makes them seem that she’s a nobody in Mexico by that time the show doesn’t say but she already had 3 albums out one with Freddie records and and the other 2 with gp records but they don’t say any of that
They put that old lady wig on Christian 🥲 it's little details like this that can mess up a whole scene. Like, why couldn't they make a wig that resembled the actual hair? The color was even wrong

Before anyone gets defensive.. I realize Selena has always been one of kind and will never be replaced. I just really really do not like the actress they chose… one she over does Selena’s lips while singing like she’s not a vacuum cleaner. And Selena had a baby face growing up and the actress looks so old with the costumes. It’s hard to watch.

They got her hair color right in this clip. Selena’s hair looks darker here though due to the high contrast on the original video. If you look at photos her hair was a light redish brown color the way the actress has it.

Honestly I like the series way more than the movie. The only reason people are shitting on the series is cuz EVERY DETAIL of Selena’s life that we didn’t even know about was touched on in the series whereas the movie only highlighted moments we KNEW about already. The “Selena” movie was like a Cliff’s Notes version of her life. The series was a detailed novel broken down into episodes.

I'm a huge Selena fan and no, Christian Serratos does not look like Selena but I feel she did her justice, everyones acting was good and tbh, I liked how Chris Perez was portrayed in the series than in the movie. In the movie they made him seem ditzy at times 😄
What i took from this show was this, the story telling was much better and ofc much more detail, I felt they did a great job portraying the characters. By the end of the series I got used to Serratos' Selena I didn't see Serratos anymore. And ofc she doesn't look like Selena, but Selena was so unique that it's hard to find someone who will look exactly like her, not even JLo looked like Selena. But personally I thought the series wasn't bad and I'm looking forward to the second half. Oh and thanks to this series it has made my teenage daughter a Selena fan 😊

everyone remembers Selena the way she looked when she died and think this actress don't look like her but in reality she does look like her when Selena was starting to be famous after saying that I think this actress will need to improve a lot to portray Selena when she reached fame because by that time she was totally a different person in her looks ,singing,dancing,fashion,and stage presence she was a complete star and that's why people loved her and I don't know if this actress would be able to accomplish that.
The actress isn't natural, but I like the story and incorporating Suzette and AB in this event. How they all became more proficient at their jobs and grew together to better their performances.

I was already skeptical about this, and this just made my skepticism WORSE. Christian, hunny, you are a beautiful girl, and I love u in the Walking Dead. But this isn’t doing it for me! AT ALL. Selena was one of a kind. She had an undeniable stage presence and charisma. Most importantly, she had rhythm and soul. That is something that JLo captured and EXECUTED masterfully. Christian not only has to fill Selena’s shoes, but she has to live up to Jlo’s performance as Selena also. So far, she is not doing too well (judging from this clip). But I will wait to watch the series before I write her off completely.
Look J-lo didnt capture nothing ok if you are gonna make this whole thing about j-lo then please just dont watch it period
