Will Coloan: This is a great mix covering among others - the Rufus Funk Period, especially 'You Got the Love' 6:14 - and Chaka's Great Recording of the Bebop Jazz Standard - 'Night in Tunisia' 31:38 Chaka Khan is a great muscian-singer that needs to be recognized as such by the White House. The only Caveat: I am from the pre-mix period. I like to hear the tunes pause, breath and go from silence to Yes! Although I have to admit you have some good, smooth transitions.
"C💋💋💋💋💋💋💋💋💋HAKA KHAN'......JUST SAY YOU LOVE ME......................."HAD TO PLAY DRUMS/PLAY BASS.......SO THAT MUSICIANS COULD GET HER"......THEN SHE COULD LAY DOWN THE AWESOME, TRACKS, ARRANGEMENTS 'EPHIANY'
Prince wrote that tune as a bit of a parody and snarky tribute to Chaka Khan because at that time most people saw her as nothing more than a "sexual object" used to front the band without recognizing that she was a tremendous singer. It wasn't about ego, it was about sexism. It wasn't tacky. It was a wake up call.
Actually, when Prince wrote "I Feel For You" for his second album, released in August of 1979, he wasn't thinking about Chaka Khan. I'm sure, however, he was delighted when she covered the song five years later and made it into an international hit. Moreover, from the beginning of her career, while still in her early twenties before she joined Rufus in 1973, Chaka Khan was taken VERY serious and considered a uniquely gifted singer and songwriter.
