Sondheim is one of the few living people we call a genius who actually is. He's also a sweet person and wonderful teacher. I could listen to him talk forever. One Tony Awards ceremony in the mid 1970s the winner started their acceptance speech by thanking Sondheim for not doing a show that year (so someone other than Sondheim could win for a change). What a wonderful compliment.
As someone with a difficult relationship with their mother, it really breaks my heart to imagine how terrible it must have been to grow up with such abuse and it speaks so much to stephen’s character and goodness that in all the hours of interviews I’ve watched I’ve never seen a hint of malice, bitterness or even pain. The world should count itself so lucky to have him.
One of the quotes from Sondheim that broke my heart the most was when he was asked, talking about Into the Woods, if he had wanted children of his own. He responded with “Yeah, I’m sorry that I didn’t have any.”

But i mean Göthe, Schiller and these guys wrote in german too, and they rhyme all over the place, so it is possible. But to sing in german always makes me cringe. Not because i dont like my language, in fact i like the language very much, but singing in german just doesnt feel right.
