- Why is it called Grape-Nuts, anyway? In this video, I explore the history of Post Grape-Nuts, one of the oldest cereals in the United States, and why it has been back in the headlines recently.
Have you tried Grape-Nuts? Are you Team Crunchy or Team Gravelly?

Thank you for being a real person and talking to us in front of the camera!
Grape Nuts were a staple for me during my 30 years living and working in the Saudi desert. They truly have been a favorite as they can withstand high desert heat and last for weeks. Oatmeal is another favorite desert food. Both work well for long hiking trails and easley carried in backpacks. Love my Grape Nuts.
I love Grape Nuts plain and with whole milk. It is really simple and filling that way and you only need a half cup of it.
This was exactly what the internet was invented for. Thank you.
😊
Grape Nuts on top of grapefruit is a real treat. And Sometimes I use orange juice instead of my usual oat milk. I love them because my dad loved them. Crunching away over the New York Times on a Sunday morning.
I bought my first box of cereal today, first box in decades... and of course it was Grape Nuts. It seemed to be the healthiest choice. It was a favorite of mine in the mid-fifties.
It seems to be the only cereal available without sugar.
I like this cereal but being a diabetic I been told it's a NO NO due to the high amount of carbohydrates. I say phoney. Yes this cereal is not for kiddies because it's lot in sugar.
I am in the mood to try Grape Nuts flakes next
@lonniepee9804 as a post graduate student working on my second doctorate on the molecular constituency of our food stuffs, I must advise you on some concerns that should be raised for your health, safety, and well being when it comes to grape nuts. I zeroed in on grape nuts as a potential research candidate when I received a mysterious unsigned letter one day which claimed to be from an insider working for Post and in particular on Grape Nuts. This individual claimed to have evidence which shows that despite the many claims of this cereal’s “healthiness,” it is actually their singularly most harmful product for human gastrointestinal tracts as well as their oral/dental well being. These claims centered around the fact that in the modern recipe for Grape Nuts, the additional added vitamins and minerals are actually just extracted from rocks, dirt, ground animal bones, and waste products from pharmaceutical companies.
Now this is quite the claim, and being the curious and concerned citizen, student, and doctor that I am I proceeded to run Grape Nuts through an ESM (electron scanning microscope 🔬) which shockingly confirmed some, if not all, of these haunting accusations.
I will be publishing my findings soon, and testifying to congress that Grape Nuts is in fact nothing more than waste products from various big business interests rolled into a horrid and unappealing, unappetizing, and unbearable atrocity of a cereal.
You’ve been warned.
I’m so totally serious too, definitely not just razzing someone who could actually enjoy what most find to be the most unappetizing torturous breakfast imaginable.
I was sitting down to breakfast (cup o'coffee and a bowl of Grape-Nuts) when I was hit with a lightning bolt of curiosity regarding the origins of my beloved cereal. Thank you for making this video!
Here it is short and sweet---I'm 65 years old and I have never liked the flavor of grape nuts but the crunch is so highly addictive (and yes cereal makers know this!) that I can't stop eating them---they keep very well and yes it's like eating gravel but that's the 5 year old in me being delighted. Well presented though---bravo!
I just ate a big bowl of Grape Nuts while watching this video. I don't taste the nutty flavor, love the crunch, and it's filling!
1:27 fascinating historical plot twist
Julie, you never mentioned whether you ended up liking them. I love them, and yes, my family calls them "aquarium gravel with all the taste of cardboard." Biggest benefits: 1. NO SUGAR. Hard to find sugarless cereal choices these days. 2. They are eco-friendly in that they take up very little space per weight in shipping. 3. The inactive yeast adds flavor and natural source vitamins. 4. Inexpensive, especially in the large package. 5. My husband won't eat them, so I never run out unexpectedly! 5. Delicious with fresh fruit and nuts, maybe a dollop of Greek yoghurt.
Great video honey, I haven't had Grape nuts in years... yes they are CRUNCHY 😳 but I like to add milk of course and put them in the microwave for about a minute or two and then add a little honey.
They are delicious when heated up, kind of like oatmeal 😋😋
Thank you, Doreen! I'll have to try heating them up! 😊
My grandparents always had grapenuts on hand. Every time any of us kids had some, we were warned that a little goes a long way. They weren't kidding! It didn't take us long to find out what they meant. I do love grapenuts warmed up too.
I always liked Grape-Nuts. It really fills you up with a small bowl full much like Oatmeal can fill you up easy. Grape-Nuts are on my next shopping list!
I loved grape nuts as a kid! Now in my '50s, I feel like I'm going to break a tooth on them so I don't eat it anymore.
I love grapenuts but I let them soak in my milk for a bit..getting old and they are harder for me to chew now LOL
I always ate Grapenuts at my grandma's house growing up, topped with lots of sugar. I still eat them and love them today(almost 40). 😋💕
Fun fact: you can make your own grape nuts cereal from scratch at home
I hated this stuff as a kid but now I love to eat it warm and with a swirl of honey 😅.
Team Gravel! I grew up in a very little sugar cereal house. Horrible teeth pain or no , team tasting the yummy grains!
Grape nuts with banana almond milk and sliced strawberries is my favorite breakfast that I can prepare in under 5 mins. Thanks for the great video, just found this channel. Looking forward to enjoying more of your content, keep up the good work!
Thanks so much! What a concise history.
Thank you! 😊
Love 'em. My mother bought them for us as well.
Great video! I definitely see your channel going places :)
favorite cereal
Thank you for this! Fascinating! I’m gonna go try this now
Thank you! 😊
I'm eating some now!
I love Grape-Nuts! Delightful video - very interesting.
Thank you, Jim! Glad you enjoyed it! :)
$110!!! That's crazy! I work at Post and that's unbelievable! Mostly because it's so gross 😂😂
I bought a box on impulse today and they're definitely substantial that little box is heavy I'm betting I like them I like the plain flavored cereals especially barley cereals.
Eating grape nuts watching this and my jaw is getting tired xD
...a box of grapes nuts is 29 ounces, look at other cereals, lucky to be half that. Plus grape nuts has no added sugar and other cereals have a whole list of things added. So whether u like grape nuts or not, its like a 2 or 3 for 1 cereal that is fairly healthy when compared to others. ....been eating it for 40 years.
I like Grape Nuts and eat it right now even.
I am assuming the real reason it made the news any one cares about grape nuts is because the Internet needed to have an excuse to make the joke "Something something Post-Grape Nut Clarity".
As to why the name Grape-Nuts? If one has an arbor of Concord grapes, and said arbor is attacked by a racoon or two, who eat the grapes and leave behind? Grape-Nuts, of course.
I like to heat them up just a bit.
It's great with yogurt.
part of my diabetic diet, won't do with out it
Grape-Nuts hot with milk and honey = ❤
This is informative but the sound of someone eating grape nuts is off-putting.
Post stole the idea from Will Kellogg
