I think the DTM has lost sight of what it's all about... powerful touring cars with big slick tyres. The aero-dominance of the last decade is taking the series away from Touring Cars and into some strange GT/Prototype realm that provides little in the way of good racing and nothing of the 'race it on sunday, buy it on Monday' mentality that even the supercars of the 90's golden era had.
Almost a decade on... DTM is in it's final season. Only 2 manufacturers left. It has evolved itself into extinction. I liked the 90's best, with the Alfa's and all.👍
@@vintagemotorsportyoutube GT3 is anything but awful, besides, they are closer to actual touring cars than the last generation of DTM cars they replaced ever were. My problem is just that we have enough GT3 championships already. DTM should have been JUST touring cars. Even if they had to adopt the TCR formats that would have been fine and in my opinion more close to the spirit of DTM GT3 cars can be raced almost in any series which is why they are so common. But the same could be said for TCR cars...
what an old comment but it didn't changed 12 years later, these cars were more competitive because it was harder to drive it good, today race cars can drive anyone even a 12 years old kid because it's meant to be easier, forgiving more and more mistakes. Yes they are better, faster and safer and it should be like that, right? Maybe not... Maybe driving oldschool, more dificult car is more competitive and it means that first 5 were not only good but real experts because they took more effort, they must gave something extra in every race. I feel proudly European because it began here. Just normal European cars used to the limit, driving around narrow corners and bouncing off the kerbs all the time with raging drivers with big balls fighting each other in the car and out of it with all the agression risk and no respect to others. Just all or nothing, doing divebombs don't letting anyone just pass you because you choose safe option just not to touch anybody and dont get punished by refs or the teams, they were risking their own car and someone else doing irresponsible and sometimes stupid things just to overtake you. No one gave up, no matter what
Just awesome. Bring back genuine touring car racing. Less aerodynamics, less traction control, less ABS. One of the best racing videos I got to see so far. VLN comes close, but just close. Thanks very much for sharing this epic picture.
Until I think it was 1992 they didn´t have any driving aids at all. Then they startet trying them out. BMW Schnitzer was the last team back than which refused to use them. ´Till then they didn´t even have a sequential gearbox. But mid 90´s everything startet to change. But think about this is the reason why road cars became so much safer for normal drivers, because motorsport first startet up with those systems.
Yall missed the part where he said less? Traction control in racing isn't just on and off, there's levels to it and typically the systems put in race cars are far more advanced than a typical road car.
@@Eeter26 yes i did. Nothing more than debatable safety cars mixing up the order. Rest of the year was a snoozefest. MotoGP on the other hand delivered week in week out, in one of the best motorsport seasons in history.
Probably, one of the best videos I've ever seen on UA-cam, or maybe I could say, the best. Even I don't usually like racing/car videos with music/without original sound, this one's awesome. You've deserve a subscription!!
All your videos are really great, best videos you can see here. But these RETROSPECTIVE Videos are simply amazing...! Music, editing and scenes...perfect! Thanks for that!
before my time... but everything i find is so awesome! born in 91... watching DTM since 2001 or 2002 i think cause i remember the Audi TTs and the Drivers. Is there any chance to find videos of complete races from the "old" DTM '84-'96?!
I am desperately searching for a video that dexcribes the technology in DTM / ITC in its last years. Any hint, anyone ? English language preferred, German or French also fine -- or maybe Italian ?
Dear DTM Enthusiast, I came across this part of the video 8:35 Please take note of the car there that appears that has the number "T1". I thought before that "T" stands for test car, how come it appears to be racing on this video? I also happen to have a miniature scale model replica of Alfa Romeo's 155 V6 TI from the 1993 DTM. This one is number 8T and that the car has been labelled with two of the works drivers of Alfa namely Larini and Nanini. I am confused with what this T is? =[
@riflebore Hi, I think it's a so-called t-car (training car) In case of wrecking his race car in training or qualifying, the driver could use this as a replacement vehicle for the main race
Video is Awesome, my only request would be to let the cars serve as the background music.. I realize that not all of the videos may have pure sound, but perhaps a clip of those that are..?? the wail of a DTM car is all the music I need...;-) Thanks MUCH for taking the time!!!
Thanks for the video, very cool video! I love cars, I love Germany! DTM love! I love AMG! love beer, I love sausages, even love German porn! music, video, all at the highest level! perfect! thanks again! and now shift 2))))

Pure racing. So much better than anything we have today...
We have nothing today, even DTM will punish a driver if he touches anything other than the pavement inside the white lines
This was the way...
And now, awful GT3.

You're aware that the DTM in the 90s had both TC and ABS?
Lmao dtm had tc and abs

When racing was racing.
Why isnt racing like this today? This is absolutely bonkers! :)
Politics and political correctness... In year 2019 only IndyCar and MotoGP, from the so called top tier motorsports, are worth watching.
@@DimZ_F1 i’m happy to not be as pessimistic as you honestly. F1 is great! Did you even see monza and sakhir this year?

@TheKamakaziX only Audi 200's and later A4's had 4x4. But I think, that A4 weren't in DTM... only STCC
