I remember using this little guy in Mechwarrior 2 and having to use it in trials to fight assault mechs.

My favorite trick in alpha strike is to roll my tape measure out to 12" basically a normal move rate for a quicker mech and then extend it out to 26" for the Fire Moth. The reactions are priceless

Honestly, you'd think more mechs would have arms would have arms like these. Maybe not the majority (as having human like movement probably makes the neurohelment not need to work as hard), but it's like with a bullpup, getting more barrel length without a longer rifle. Only here it's a higher firing position without making the mech taller. Thouch of course feet mounted small lasers, flamers, and machine guns with gimballing would be effective placement placement for anti-infantry/anti-vehicle operations.

    • @certanmike
      @certanmike 2 роки тому +3

I think they tend to be arm/lower torsos mounted so they are can be use vs all targets and are less vulnerable to infantry attack

I always Invision the pilots wearing leathers with chains and spikes. And the controls would be a pair of ape hanger handlebars from a Harley, so they can get the correct posture for their nurohelmet.

This is the first clan mech I read about when i bought TRO 3050 back in the mid 90s. Its also the first mech I used in the Mechwarrior 2 PS1 game not long after. Great little machine.

I love the Fire Moth and use it frequently. There's nothing like watching the opposing player be frustrated by a +4 on your mech making it near impossible for them to hit.

I remember this mech was banned in official games of the WotC version.
Apparently it could be deployed and immediately start attacking the opposing player’s stockpile within the very first turn, at the very start of the game. Far too quickly.

I played the TCG back in the day, basically Dasher D + Elite Mechwarrior was very difficult to stop land destruction since the standard Support cards(think Lands in Magic) had 7 health(well 4Armor/3Structure), and the Dasher D with an Elite Mechwarrior did 7 Damage with overheat and could only be blocked with a Fast mech.
      Both received the ban hammer.

I really appreciated this little guy in Mech4 mercenaries. There's that one mission where you're all alone and have to enter a base, scan a bunch of buildings, and then destroy them. I don't care if you have an atlas, you're not winning that fight alone. So I went in with a Dasher armed with 4 small or medium heavy lasers, I forget the size. Blasted the buildings in no time and then zoomed the hell out of there.

@GrimDark Narrator My introduction to BattleTech was through PC Gamer magazine's February 1997 demo CD which included a simplified version of a mission from MechWarrior 2. I played the hell out of that demo, again and again. I'd seen ads for Battletech before but I have never gotten into or had the opportunity to be introduced to playing it; unlike the likes of D&D.
Nonetheless, I greatly enjoy this series of yours, as well. A few months ago, I watched your entire Battletech playlist through, beginning to end, plus every video since.
As you reiterated in your intro video, it's been described as "the future of the '80s", and I love it. It's typically yet another example of being a 20th-century pop culture IP-franchise that remains much more interesting, and FUN, than all too many attempts of late.
You always make excellently-fitting choices as background music for each ongoing series and subseries that you've made, GDN, and of course BattleTech's no exception. Quite a knack. You've lead me to checking out and appreciating Mr. Kishan Sheth's work.
Thank you again for more extensively interesting lore coverage.

The firemoth basically combines the speed of super light weight mechs like the locust with the firepower of a commando with its SRM batteries. Like the commando, a firemoth is a bad mech to have attacking your flanks, but is fast enough to dash into position to exploit them more readily than said commando.

Overall a good video. Well presented and informative. But, I noted one mis-speak on your part... There is no such thing as Triple Strength Myomer Armor.
Other than that one tiny mistake, this was another sterling video.

@@GrimDarkNarrator : Oh, I just remembered... The Fire Moth is a Mech that is seen often in Mechcommander and Mechcommander II computer games. Although it is easily dealt with when you have Mechs with LRMs, before that though you end up sometimes surrounded by Fire Moths that are heating your Mech to Shut Down. Unlike Rogue Tech, or even the HBS Battletech, you are stuck with the 'basic' version of your Mech and you are not allowed to modify them. This limit presents a whole other kind of difficulty to the game and your choices of Mechs to field for the Missions.
