Hey hey, you you! Apparently Some people hate Avril Lavigne?! Thanks for watching me explore why certain corners of the internet feel the way they do! Most of why people hate Avril is misogyny, even if they don't realize it. Her best damm thing era was very pop punk, and she was only 22 at the time, but people call it extremely immature as if other pop punk bands weren't doing the same thing? She makes great music.
The thing that makes me jealous about her is the fact that she had soooo much help about the writing of the songs. She has a personal band payed to makes her songs, somebody that helps her with the texts, plus her parents made for her a recording studio in their house. From a 17 years old girl you can't expect songs, especially with that quality
@The Coin Has A Say I'll be the first to say head above water was not what I expected however love sux while it's not great it's the best thing avril has put out in years
What were you like a sociopath or something. How can a song teach you empathy? Its an innate human trait that is developed in normal individuals during mid stage to late stage childhood, but it is severely lacking for those with certain disorders. If an avril song is what taught you empathy, perhaps it taught to emulate it only. Freak
Even people hate Avril Lavigne we fans doesn't care at all We are enjoying listening to AVRIL lavigne music And support her no matter what We didn't compare Avril Lavigne to any artist , we don't support toxicity ♥️♥️♥️
people love to hate on avril because they think it's cool and edgy and all of you are just quick to discredit her impact in the rock genre because she's a solo artist she's not part of a band and calling her immature is just not it especially if the only albums you heard from her are Let Go up to TBDT then quickly jump to Love Sux... she's an artist who is not afraid to try other style she's a versatile artist and if you think shes not the pop punk princess then fine but you cannot deny how she has inspired many young artists today billie eilish, olivia rodrigo, willow, maggie lindemann, etc. even hayley williams once said that Paramore wouldnt be here if it wasnt for her so i dont know why would anyone call her irrelevant when she has paved the way for many young artists especially women to try a genre that has been dominated by men...
@@UrMom-rp8yt You think SHE was the blueprint for pop punk? WOW. Jesus Christ. If I am reading that right and that is what you are saying, that is literally the most mouth breathing, handicapped thing I have ever seen typed on the internet. And that is saying something.
"Hate" is a strong word. What do I think of Avril Lavigne? I genuinely like her first two albums. "Losing Grip" still gets me and I still really like that song. Her second album "Under My Skin" was a nice (and nostalgic) album for me as well. She wasn't amazing but she was decent and her music came out at a good time for me personally as someone who was transitioning from generic top 40 music to rock-related music when I was 11 years old lol. But then the "Best Damn Thing" era came around and unfortunately, I was one of the people who didn't like this 180 turn of her presentation with the obnoxious and bratty persona she emanated around this time. It certainly didn't help that "Girlfriend" was being OVERPLAYED everywhere at the time. I was a freshman going into sophomore around 2007 when the song came out and I remember it being played in so many places and though I initially liked the guitar work, the lyrics and Avril's higher pitched singing voice really grated on me. I eventually did get around to listening to the album and despite liking "When you're gone", the album didn't retain my attention like her first two did and at this point, I was getting more into the 90s Alternative rock sound and so I saw no use to continue listening to her newer stuff since it just wasn't doing anything for me. Needless to say, I took a decade long hiatus break from her and around 2011/2012, I tried to give her newer stuff a listen and just like before, I didn't like it and the lyrics were especially juvenile and I couldn't relate and it's still like that for me today. At my current job, they constantly play "Bite Me" and while it has that pop punk sound to it, the lyrics really muffle the song for me. Again, very juvenile, very teen angsty and as a guy entering my 30s, I can't relate to music like that anymore, not if it's something that I didn't grow up with when I was a teenager. So for me, I don't hate Avril. Sound-wise, it's not necessarily bad instrumentals but her lyrics, they're just not for me. They're aimed at teenagers and as someone who isn't one and hasn't been for like 10-11 years now, the lyrics just do nothing for me. So I tend to pass on her new stuff and stick with the "Let Go" and "Under My Skin" albums when I'm in an Avril mood.
but cant deny she did got haters, mainly because they thought she was a fake punk/skater girl , theres an interview on yt when she explained she never call herself names, she just said shes a rock chick who likes to have fun on stage but people took it too far by labelling her and people thought she was fake. People also hated her when she went pink and girlier starting from under my skin transitioning to tbdt. She started wearing tutus, styling herself more like a woman... so people didnt like that and made up theories that she died to cope. Her music went more pop since goodbye lullaby with the song what the hell, that sounded like girlfriend but it was more techno pop or dance pop, because the mainstream at that time were lady gaga, kesha, katy perry etc. Her label didnt want her to release what she want, and wanted "what the hell" as the lead single to follow up success from girlfriend. You can tell because the whole album is more acoustic, and stripped down. Then it comes to the point she went on hiatus because of her lyme disease, the public forgot about her for like 7 yrs. Came back with head above water and people thought it didnt sound like her older works. In conclusion, Avril never wins. Everyone got their own reasons to hate on her. But we cant deny shes a phenomenal artist who paved way for younger generation and the pop punk scene
@@george52797 I'm aware. As I said, I was a teenager during the mainstream height of her career and I remember a lot of my schoolmates really disliked her music but I wager it was mostly because again, during the "Best Damn Thing" era, her music was played everywhere and some people were getting annoyed of it. >"Styling herself more like a woman" Uh no. Styling herself in a more feminine way. Sorry to be that person but womanhood has nothing to do with femininity. Whether a woman chooses to dress comfortable and tomboyish or feminine and stylish, they're both equally women. Sorry I just needed to say that. Anyway yeah, I'm aware that she did received some negative feedback when she changed her style from the tomboy/skater style of her first two eras to looking more feminine pop-singer with a slight alternative edge to it. I was one of the people back in those days who didn't really like her new look but not in like a "hate" way, just more "I preferred her old look" way. Overall, I'm aware of most of what happened with her with the Lyme disease that put her in the hospital for years. I wouldn't call her an "influential" pop punk musician because the reality is that only a small handful of her songs were pop punk and she never really participated n the actual punk DIY scene like authentic pop punk bands did supporting their scene. So nah, I wouldn't call Avril an icon of Pop Punk, I'd give that to someone like say Hayley Williams from Paramore since at least in the earlier days, they supported their local scene and were more consistent with the sound. But I don't deny that Avril is influential for the genre of pop rock from the 2000s.
i lover her when she is more into the materialistic/model/hip hop/pop style rather than rock/punk/emo style, mainly because she is a very pretty beautiful girl she can afford to be proud, but here is the problem, she came off as this rock chick which most people who are into rock lifestyle can appreciate and love, but over the years rock/punk became less and less mainstream, it had it one last big swing before dying out forever in the emo era, and she still fit in to that emo/punk era, and she continue to be famous. Now that rock/emo is considered as classic and not cool, she changed, i mean not changed she was like this all along, she was never really a rock girl in heart. Now, she is torn between being the rock chick, rock genre style and pop/superficial style, she is a mixture of them and it turn out bad, she feel she will betray her fans and continue the rock style, rock fashion but deepndown she hates it and want to get rid of it. Much like Linkin Park, Chester was stupid to insult fans who said they went too electronic and techno "latest". but they were never really into rock in the first place. linkin park amd avril has so many in common.
@Kai Decadence, I consider Avril's first 2 albums the classic/nostalgic ones because i was in high school at the time. While i loved her 3rd album, i find i don't listen to it as much anymore as i did years ago. I still love her music but her earlier stuff i think is her best work.
The problem is that her lyrics are becoming a bit superficial/boring. Avalanche and dare to love me made me cringe a little bit when she started saying things like "I say that I'm okay but i don't feel okay right now". She could go a little deeper and try to explain why she feels a certain way. I feel like those 2 songs aren't what she had in mind for this album. Deja vu, bite me, FU and love sux feel more sincere imo
That's what I was talking about, everyone wants her to be their ideal and doesn't want to accept the fact that she is an ordinary person. "I want her to do this, but she did that".
It's been 14 years since i became her fan, gotta say, she literally inspired me with her music to be the person i am today. Her lyrics are cliche nowadays but she is so good at writing toplines. Love sux gives me the vibe that i haven't felt since TBDT.
What’s wrong with being young at heart. Lots of people like to feel what Avril feels young. Nothing wrong with that. She was only a kid when her 2 albums got made. She was barely an Adult. It can’t be being that young in the spotlight. It must be tiring mentally. Having all those cameras in your face. Hardly any privacy. For fuck sake. At least she knows how to have fun. Be wild. You only live once.
There's nothing wrong with being young at heart at all. But when it comes to her current lyrics, it can be very hard to relate to when you're someone in your late 20s and into your 30s is all. I may not care for a lot of her newer stuff but I tip my hat to her for doing what she wants and showing you don't have to change your whole being as you get older.
If you watch her interviews recently she mentioned why the record companies wouldn't let her do heavy guitar driven tracks that's why love sux is so loud cuz she had no label going into it so the hating on her for genre shifting isn't really her fault
She literally was one of the artists that got me into rock. Along with bands like Green Day, Blink-182, Sum 41, Simple Plan and Linkin Park when I was like eight years old 🥲 She was the gateway for many little girlies like me back then though. And you have to give her credit for that!
Tbh I think haters hate her just because they want to, because there really is no other sensible reason to hate her. She has changed her sound throughout her albums, but that’s fine… her artistry evolves and she has every right to explore different genres. Besides… haters gonna hate her anyway. If she changes up her style and image they hate her because she strays away from her roots, but if she stays too close to her roots they blame her for being stuck in high school forever and being “immature”. I mean… haters gonna hate. Personally I enjoyed all of her albums, including the more pop-oriented ones, I admire her song-writing skills (even if she has had the help of co-writers) and I’ve always loved her vocals and the fact that she can play instruments. She’s rocked many different styles (musically and also fashion-wise) and the melodies of her songs have always been beautiful. Sometimes her lyrics can sound indeed immature but I think that she’s clearly self-aware. Sometimes she’s deliberately silly, shallow and bratty in the lyrics and she clearly just wants to have fun, and that’s perfectly fine. However when she wants to go deeper with the lyrics she does it well, Head Above Water proves it. She does use some clichés in her songs but it never bothered me that much, the songs were still enjoyable and relatable to me, and many of her songs are timeless imo. I think that she got a lot of undeserved hatred from punk and rock-fanatics who hated her because she wasn’t punk or rock enough for them… but the thing is she never claimed to be 100% punk or 100% rock, I’ve always considered her a pop artist, with punk and rock influences… most importantly I always enjoyed her music. Plus she’s not even bratty if you actually listen to her interviews, she’s chill and quite humble, I don’t think that fame got to her head at all, so kudos to her. I wish her success with her latest album and a happy life…
They hate her because they ain’t her. She hasn’t let the fame go to her head. She believes in giving back and helping people out. She’s creating the next generation of artists. She’s kind but she’s not a pushover.
@@bilobilo56 yes because the song is that objectively bad. Sometimes when an artist puts out a song that is generally terrible, it makes people not want to listen to anything else that they do. There are objective elements to music as well as subjective elements to music and people have criticized that song on both objective and subjective Bases. So when you put out a song like that, people do not want to give you a second shot
@@bilobilo56 in math terms you can consider that song her careers' "global minimum"/ all time low. So if people are hear an artist at their all-time low, they might not want to hear them again. Now bumps in the road that offend people on a subjective level might be forgiven by a General listener or a fan, but Hello Kitty is not that. So talking of how people are quick to judge her because of one song, yes because it's her career worst as considered by much of her fanbase as well as critics
The main thing I think many people actually hate her for is that she ignores her fans a lot, I used to think this when I watched old videos on UA-cam Fans would fly for miles and spend lots of money to ask her a question and she’d give a short not very interesting answer, and then there’s the whole not standing close to her fans when they paid big bucks for a picture. About the consistency thing, I think the fact that she grows and changes is what many people like about her
shows that she is just a local low class girl, who got popular by fooling her fans, she emerges as this punk rock chick girl while the world was very much turning superficial with other pop stars like Britney, who is the complete opposite who is the super model cheer leader dumb shiny blond type, and due to her rock "let's be real" style she was loved by many especially by those that are not into modern superficial world, know what i mean?, but that was all a facade, deep down Avril is not a rocker, deep down she is not into rock music or deep down she is not real, she is very shallow, superficial and narcissitic, it was all just a persona, thats why she hates her fans who digs her rock chick style. she should just appear to be who she is, because she is a really pretty girl, as of now 2022, she is just weird, her music her fashion are all weird and confusing. she is so confusing right, not rock, not emo, not scene, not flashy, not pop.
I've been a fan since 2002 after hearing complicated and I think her music has gotten better over the years, Love Sux is my favorite album of hers and Runaway is my favorite song of hers.
I honestly don’t think she’s relevant enough anymore to actually hate her. She’s kinda just doing her thing these days somewhat out of the spotlight. Her most recent album going back in a more early 2000s pop punk vibe kinda showcases she’s comfortable not being the next big thing these days
I like Under My Skin the best. In general I like her first 3-4 Records. But I recently met someone who likes her because of her pop era (Goodbye Lullaby - Head above water). Her new album definitely rocks and even if it's not the best pop punk album I enjoy listening to it. Another aspect why I really like her is her immaturity. I mean the Ramones sang "I don't wanna grow up". Blink-182s most successful song is " What's my age again". Avril lives this lifestyle, so why the fuck should I hate her?
Life’s too short to be normal and average. Life’s for the living. People that call her immature have forgotten what’s it like to have fun and enjoy yourself.
Her 3 "pop" albums wouldn't be pop if it wasn't for her record labels. She recorded many rock songs for her self titled album but they didn't let her release, they would even tell her how much guitar she could put in her songs. There are songs from that album lik 17 and aint seen nothin yet which were supposed to be rock songs but the record label rearranged it to sound very synthpop. And in goodbye lullaby she wasn't going to release the bubblegum tracks like what the hell and smile, but her record label said it wasn't catchy enough because the vibe was very acoustic, so they hired max martin to write these shitty songs that she released as singles.
MY ADVICE, her 4th and 5th records are better if u don't spect to hear Avril from them, lyrics are deep and about ton of stuff specially in GBL adn HAB, but again Im not talking about the singles, the labels have always pushed her to have energetic hits as singles, and she does like them but some were asked and some were not, like What The Hell,... but she spend 2 full albums out of this type of songs and now she cameback naturally to it, without labels, without anyone else telling her what to do, she started hangin out with musicians that are friends of her for years and organically wrote out the whole Love Sux record, she had ton of maturity and instrospection with her 2019 album, she comes from years of battleling Lyme disease, she was almost dying at one point bc of it being chained to bed, not able to move, let alone sing or do a concert, not even go out of bed for simple stuff. She has been strong and constant, she took out of that in her 2019 album. Now she comes back with energy and life for real, after dealing with 2 failed marriages for years and some shitty realtionships in between with selfish rich guys, she had a reason to do an album like LOVE SUX, for real, she is now appreciating life, being able to move, to have fun, travel, be with friends and write with them after all the struggles.... Give her some credit, just bc it sounds fun doesn't mean lyrics don't have any meaning behind each one of them. Avril may be simple at times but most lyrics have ton of meaning behind em, she has never been so poetic, she has always been truth to her feelings, unapologetic, sarcastic, fun, sometimes direct, so yeah... She is doing fine. She is a full grown artist that has show a variety like no other for real. From her demos 2001 to date 2022 she has released so many so many different songs . She does not need to prove herself further as the amazing songwritter and artist that she is,.... I mean for real even other artist would have not made it as big without Avril paving her way in music and being an example, some of the biggest hits of other artist were written by Avril, and I'm talking about Leona Lewis, Miranda Cosgrove, Kelly Clarkson, and many more who have used her songs that don't end up in her records and make a big carrer out of that. If Avril wasn't as good as she is, she would'nt be able to show all the different styles and genres she is able to do, all lyrics she has been able to write. Avril is fucking amazing. PERIOD
True if they hate avril lavigne ,then they should block avril lavigne in all music platforms ,that's it Why do we need to spread negativity cause we hate someone
She’s paved the way for so many female artists. She’s inspired an entire generation of girls. We need more positivity than negativity. She’s just doing her thing. What’s wrong with that? She’s got better things to do than to worry about the hate and negativity. If anything the hate and negativity could inspire her to make more music and annoy the haters. If she’s got haters she’s doing something right. She’s the MFP. Spread love not hate. Nuff said.
Thank you for calling out the conspiracy, it’s ridiculous. First because people change from their teens to their thirties, but also because if you keep up with avril there’s so much pointing towards the change…. Like how much she liked the fun stuff live, leading to best damn thing, how happy she was writing innocence, leading to following up with goodbye lullaby, she was rooted in country which is why she abandoned rock, the genre wasn’t like super close to her heart or anything
@@george52797 yes. She was still a girl and many people do not know Avril liked Hello Kitty, Animes, and Japanese culture as a whole so when she changed from being a tomboy to girly, they got confused because when she started changing, that was when she finally able to show her self little by little.
The Love Sux album is really doing it for me. I really like it front to back. This is an unpopular opinion, but I actually enjoy her music a lot more when she started working with Dr Luke/Max Martin, and many of my favorite Avril tracks are ones they collaborated on. Even if the lyrics aren’t quite as good as her earlier stuff, I still enjoy them a lot
I hate that cliche opinion that when someone turns 30 they need a dog and a baby... like fuck, they are who they are and they're having fun and living their lives, I don't think it's cringe at all and in in my 20s. Her musical creations litterally express her in an alternative light. Idk that commentary to me is so irrelevant, also MGK is thriving regardless of ppl constantly bashing him behind their 9-5 Jobs and screens
Her reputation as the "queen of Pop Punk" is a bit grim It'd be like giving 5SOS and Metro Station the "kings of Pop Punk" title, like you wouldn't give Trace Cyrus or the dudes in Cobra Starship the same respect as Mark Hoppus or Billie Joe Armstrong would you? Exactly, It's weird Like she's seemingly taken Hayley Williams' title and reputation somehow, and no one's called it out. Tbf, the Pop Punk revival right now seems 100% only based on the most mainstream area of it, like everyone's freaking out over Avril Lavigne collabs, everyone's into MGK, but no one cared when Tyson Ritter jumped on a lilhuddy song? Not having that So like, I like her, but she's definitely the face of the wrong corner of Pop Punk being celebrated When MGK fans start obsessing over Sum 41, Neck Deep and State Champs, then It'll be fine
@The Coin Has A Say I mean I love Paramore but I would say from Brand New Eyes and onward was where I would say they start putting out great albums as I do think All We Know is Falling and even parts of Riot has definitely aged pretty badly. And I disagree about Let Go being a full fronted album. I re-listen to it before Love Sux came out and for the most part I think it still holds up. Sure the deep cuts may not be as good as the singles, a lot of them are still very solid. Hell Mobile is one of my favorite songs from her.
@The Coin Has A Say I mean Nobody’s Fool is really the only song off of Let Go that does make the album show it’s aged, but those other songs you mention like Things I’ll Never Say and My World may be silly but I enjoy them just enough and I actually really like Tomorrow. But Riot! for me when I listen to it, while they’re definitely great songs on that album for sure, there’s also songs where I’m like, “Yeah this was geared towards teenagers.” Some of the lyrics can be a bit groan worthy. You can say the same with Avril with her first 3 records, but it doesn’t bother me that much actually. Hell I’m one of the people who actually likes The Best Damn Thing for what it is despite the obvious flaws.
@The Coin Has A Say I mean I agree that even on the first 2 albums that Avril wasn’t some lyrical genius but aside from Nobody’s Fool, the other two songs are catchy enough and the lyrics didn’t stick out to me like a sore thumb to where it doesn’t bother me as much as you did, which I’m guessing is your take with Riot!’s lyrics on certain tracks. But "Your arms like towers/tower over me" off of We Are Broken and maybe groan worthy may not be the best description for some of the tracks, but a little eye roll worthy and underwritten and the songs don’t really have that much variety to them as they do sound the same and some of them don’t stand out from the rest of the pop punk boom at the time. That kinda kept me from going back and listening to that album and just cherry pick certain songs off it compare to most of Let Go & Under My Skin and Paramore’s catalog afterwards.
@The Coin Has A Say I mean I can agree with you that Hayley Williams is the better singer and lyricist and on later Lavigne albums the lyrics at times definitely stick out but on those first two records while some of the lyrics can be clunky, her delivery did feel authentic and genuine for me to give it a pass. Both Let Go and Riot! are definitely flawed for sure, but for me LG has more deep cuts that stands out to me and even parts of it is dated, it’s a nice kind of dated where I can listen to the album & feel nostalgic and for the most part, doesn’t make me cringe like some of the music back then do. Whereas Riot! is decent and yes Hayley does have a winning presence, but it’s one of those albums where I can cherry pick some songs off it and the others blend in the background for me as they’re kinda run of the mill pop punk IMO. I agree with some people who say they prefer their new sound than their pop punk sound.
@@TheRareVideosXL Now that I don’t agree at all. Especially recently Paramore have been more consistent, whereas Avril for me have 1 fine album (Love Sux), 2 mixed bags (Goodbye Lullaby and Self Titled) and 1 bad album (Head Above Water).
I think Avril changed because she's a grown women and " Queen Of Pop Punk " puts her in a box that limits her and she doesn't want to be limited to one type of music ... I mean she never really cared for titles anyway. Her 2013 self titled album ( 'Avrl Lavigne ' ) looks like she wants to show her matured age and showed she can make more matured and serious music . But her quality never stopped. 2018, ( ' Head Above Water ' ) album showed that side of her also. She even said in a MTV interview in 2003 " I'm not Punk. I'm just a rock chick! ". In my opinion she is her own sub genre in the Rock genre; if I may ? I love all Avril's music in all genres she has made.
People are the worst I’ve loved all of Her albums except for one and I still bought some of the songs on it Was just telling a friend I always felt like she got a raw deal with public perception
I love her as a person and her music if you new more about her and her whole life from when she was little to when she became famous and so on you would see how good of a person she really is I'll tell you this though she never liked the nickname pop punk princess because she didn't sing pop or punk she sang rock and roll the media gave her the nickname because according to them her music sounded more pop punk than rock she said she left the studio one day and on the bench at a bus stop she seen the term pop punk princess with her picture on it that's how she got her name
I still love her, I think she's brilliant, she's a songwriter with heart, sure, shes still a teen at heart but I love her for what she got me through in my teenage years. x
To be honest, even if I haven't been happy with her music for a while, I appreciate that all of the things mentioned on this video are related to artistic choices and not to her as a person. I like that she keeps a low profile and hasn't been a subject of major controversies in years.
But he shouldn’t have made a video about hatred for a woman especially when his approach wasn’t sufficiently feminist She couldn’t get a credit card without a man until 1974, She modeled confidence to like two generations of women already
AVRIL LAVIGNE ROCKS . Why would anyone hate her ? I just seen her in concert on July the 9th right after my birthday July the 8th . I will always love Avril no matter what anyone says
Avril is my all time favorite and as far as the immature things I only really saw the immature lyrics in love sux but at the same time that's what pop punk is simple plan blink and others have highschool sounding music too and they are almost a decade older then avril
what does immature mean to people? Not sounding depressed and deep? Just because she wants to express her fun through her music doesnt mean shes immature
And the "abandoning her roots" pop punk wasn't originally her roots anyone she started out singing country hell she got started after winning a contest to sing with shania twain that's just what she was feeling it bothers me how people get so mad at artists changing their sounds like Katy perry when she did witness people said her sound changed and lady gaga releasing Joanne which Is my favorite of hers like a video I saw a while ago they said an artist can change their sound that's their proragative but people want to stay with the nostalgia they did and that's what avril did with love sux she wasn't making it for us to be nostalgic but for herself with loud heavy guitar driven music
The only woman who got away with change was Madonna. And I’ll tell you how she did it. Well, tbh I think Doja cat already did that for us. None of their music sounded the exact same. Which is why they both have a broader audience and can’t be labeled a certain thing.
@@BozeDoesGodsWork this is true and people labeled avril after her first album before she even got a chance to release anything else and it was really annoying she's a musician they change their sound all the time
The problem with the haters is that they themselves made her their idol. They waited for something that she did not give a reason for. Then they suffer because a real person does not correspond to the idol that they themselves created. I saw an article by some journalist on the Internet, who admitted to hating Avril because she does not say what she would like to hear from her. With her hatred, she tries to humiliate Avril. But in the end, this journalist suffers from that, from her own hatred. Because Avril did not guarantee her what she wanted to hear. In the end, we as listeners receive emotions, feelings, beauty from Avril. And the haters have nothing but some kind of self-destructive negativity. --- It's like somebody comes and says: - Oh, Avril show us the way, show us the truth. And Avril says: - Man, I just write and sing songs. I am an ordinary person, not a god. I do what I can to give you emotions and feelings, to give you joy. Don't ask me for something I don't have. And Somebody: - I... I... I hate you Avril! I'll go and write an article that you're stupid and evil!!!1111 :))
She my biggest inspiration, and my biggest girl crush. She inspired me so much, and her songs mean a lot to me. I love her, but I respect if someone dosen't.
I for one will NEVER hate Avril Lavigne. She's such a really nice person, yes in concert with all her fans. She's such a golden, angelic person. I will always love you Avril. Your the sweetest 💖
Of course I love "Let Go", and it will always be my favorite Avril Lavigne album, but I prefer her more mature songs. I can't enough of "Head Above Water", "We Are Worriors" and "Let Me Go"! It's great listening to her original works, but her music needs to grow with her loyal long time fans.
Hello Kitty is a reason in and of itself. I think Avril is talented and I enjoy her 2000s material even if her later years are kinda rough. My Top 3 Avril Lavigne songs are: 3. I'm With You 2. My Happy Ending 1. Losing Grip
I think part of it is her not living up to her full potential. For me Let Go and Under My Skin for that 2000s decade are classics, that I feel like everything afterwards kinda pale in comparison. Not to say all the other albums are bad, I liked majority off of The Best Damn Thing and there’s moments on her other albums that do shine, it just when listening to them you can’t help but think: This could’ve been better. I haven’t outgrown her yet as I do think there’s still something left in there and she’s undeniably talented and still got that energy and charm to her. I’m rooting for her to put out another great album again but time will tell. Also she needs to get better collaborators.
I think Goodbye Lullaby would have been a more consistent album if WTH and Smile weren’t in it. All of the songs are pretty stripped down besides those 2
@@MrFrye12345 I think it could’ve been at least a solid album if the record label didn’t interfere and let her do her thing instead of forcing her to put out another Girlfriend size radio hit. At the end, the final result is just okay.
@@gcolbyp yeah I think she definitely didn’t have as much freedom with GL. I can’t help but to love tracks like Remember When, Not Enough, and Goodbye. I personally think those 3 songs is the holy trinity of that record. I think 4 Real is pretty bland compared to the rest of the sound as well, I’m content with everything else though. It served her purpose to have a stripped down album
MY ADVICE, her 4th and 5th records are better if u don't spect to hear Avril from them, lyrics are deep and about ton of stuff specially in GBL adn HAB, but again Im not talking about the singles, the labels have always pushed her to have energetic hits as singles, and she does like them but some were asked and some were not, like What The Hell,... but she spend 2 full albums out of this type of songs and now she cameback naturally to it, without labels, without anyone else telling her what to do, she started hangin out with musicians that are friends of her for years and organically wrote out the whole Love Sux record, she had ton of maturity and instrospection with her 2019 album, she comes from years of battleling Lyme disease, she was almost dieying at one point bc of it being chained to bed, not able to move, let alone sing or do a concert, not even go out of bed for simple stuff. She has been strong and constant, she took out of that in her 2019 album, now she comes back with energy and life for real, after dealing with 2 failed marriages for years and some shitty realtionships in between with selfish rich guys, she had a reason to do an album like LOVE SUX, for real, she is now appreciating life, being able to move, to have fun, travel, be with friends and write with them after all the struggles.... PERIOD
she should just stick to, what the hell, hot, girlfriend version, she was divine in that version, right now she look washed up, confused, stressed, and unhappy.
Avril will forever be my favourite since 2002 and I can't wait to see her live for the second time soon about 18 years later so I will really see the difference. Hello Kitty is not my favourite but the one song I do not like is "Alice".
I think her music went down hill after Goodbye Lullaby but Love Sux definitely made up for that. It goes without saying that I prefer Avril’s earlier work but she’ll always be my favourite artist as she’s just such an icon!
Avril in 2002-2004 was my biggest crush as an early teen... like five years ago, she'll always be great lmao... and if I can take Blink-182 as a serious band, I sure can take Avril as well
I still love her, but I long for the kind of songs, arrangements, and production on her first album. There must be something to the idea of her music quality going downhill, for it to be a topic of discussion. How about an acoustic album avril.
See goodbye lullaby was avril in her early days though look at wish you were here yeah it could've had loud guitars to make it pop punk but it was still very much avril so much in fact she had to fight to release it
The only thing she can be hated for is her choices for collaborations with other musicians. I think I've never seen her singing with an actually good musician. But besides that I love her more than myself
I’ve never been a huge fan of Avril Lavigne, but I do like a handful of her older songs. I feel like the trajectory she took after under my skin was too poppy, too generic, and kind of unserious/immature. She had some real bangers early on that were definitely rock songs, even if she was branded “pop punk” (Losing Grip, Don’t Tell Me, Nobody’s Home, etc). The total straying from this tho is what’s prevented me from ever getting into her music beyond about 10 or so songs from her first 2 records. Even now when she’s well into her 30s she’s making music reminiscent of “Girlfriend” which was cheesy and immature for even how old she was then. I think she’d have a lot more clout with the rock/pop-rock community if she would’ve stuck w those roots.
I almost feel like her walking with Dr. Luke had an impact on her direction. Girlfriend was originally a joke song according to Avril, but I feel like he taught her catchiness over lyrics and she hung onto that. Even listening to her songs before Dr. Luke came, the two Butch Walker songs that she gave to Puffy Ami Yumi are bangers in my opinion, and even though the sound is poppier than what she had done up until that point the lyrics still feel like classic Avril in a sense, maybe they’re a bit more silly but they still fit her old energy of being this down to earth kind of girl. (You should check them out All Because of You, and I Don’t Wanna Be.) Girlfriend took her from your best friend that writes songs about her life, to the popular girl next door writing songs to make hits. I still like Smile and What The Hell, and I think they’re great pop songs, but in the context of Goodbye Lullaby they don’t fit, they should’ve kept Gone, Complete Me, and Candy. Candy would’ve made the poppier songs fit better, and complete me and gone could replace a couple of the weaker tracks. But instead she had whatever she had…
Im here because while watching family guy avril was listed on a list of known abusers and pedophiles including amber heard. I was confused cause iv never heard anything bad about her, and now here i am trying to find ANYTHING negative about her and im struggling.
I think lyme disease and the loss of her closest loved one had a huge impact not only on her mental state and physical state, but her spiritual state to. You dont go through something like that, and not change as a person. I used to be an innocent caring kid, then some shit happened and i turned into a total punk, now I have the attitude of a kind patient mother. I'm just hitting my thirties. Iv already changed so much. Never, EVER underestimate the impact life can have on you. Your brain and its neurological pathways are much softer than you might think. Be careful out there. ❤
She's among the greatest in her class with that ubiquitous vivacious grunge style and pussycat smile. Taylor Swift cant guitar so aggressively even if she was in the buff.
The different direction was because the real Avril passed away and her doppelganger has been pretending to be her. It's of the crazier conspiracy threads but it's the only way to explain the rock abandonment.
Nope Because she returned to rock back in 2022 And her first 3 albums was basically all rock. Her 4th one was pop with a little bit of rock thrown in. Her 5th one was both, songs like Rock N Roll, You ain't seen nothing yet and Bad Girl are very much rock. And her 6th one is all soft pop but her 7th is rock/pop punk5
i love Avril. a lot of artists with a decades-long career face the problem of straying too far from their roots, the prospect that they'll alienate their original fans is very real, so they try to appease to those fans by doing a sorta "comeback" like this album is for Avril. on the flipside, they face criticism for not evolving or growing enough from their earlier sound, the last thing a musician wants to be known for is being too boring. It's a balancing act of "How do you grow as an artist without ditching the fans that made you famous in the first place?". Miley Cyrus' last two albums (Younger Now and Plastic Hearts) felt like a return to form for her earlier music, which was focused around country-rock and pop-rock, but despite being a return to form she was able so showcase a more mature sound. Best Damn Thing is my fav Avril album, and the fact that this new one is very similar in sound tells me this is a return to form for her
It's a really tough spot to be in for sure. Reminds me of Linkin Park when they ditched the Nu-Metal sound for a more commercial radio rock type sound. Personally didn't like the latter but I get why they moved on lol.
Her legacy it what people use to hate because she's known for all the hits and in my opinion she had released songs wayyy better then her hits like goodbye on goodbye lullaby it makes me cry everytime
I think after head above water which its a good song dont get me wrong with its empowering and uplifting vibes but afterwhile for me it slowly becomes a bit stagnant and boring at times
I rediscover her music like once a year, I agree that you can’t listen to it for weeks on end but not many people are at that level with their catalogue
Having Avril be the Punk Rock Princess always confused me. She's always been mostly an adult contemporary artist more in line with Sheryl Crow or Jewel than Blink 182 or New Found Glory. Pop punk was just a style aesthetic she wore. Even back in the day, I heard her music on the adult contemporary stations, not on the alternative or rock stations so I don't know how she got that punk rock reputation.
okay she IS the Pop Punk Princess not Punk Rock Princess and tbh it's the media that gave her that title even she herself said in an interview from 2002 that she's not punk and her music is not punk...and tbh that pop punk princess title was because of her album the best damn thing which if you havent hear you woukd understand why she was labeled as that
Exactly! She always was and is a more pop artist no matter what. Her first record was pop teen with a few guitars, her second was pop rock, her 3 was pop with a few influences of pop punk but not enterly and the 4,5,6 are pure pop simple albums. The "pop punk princess" was a nickname gave her by the mainstream press like People magazine that don't know anything of music and only by her clothing style that she had in her first era that was related to the punk skate scene of 2000s. But her music is nothing like this. Only the last album Love Sux is a pop punk album thanks to Travis Barker CEO direction that give the same sound to all his workers like MGK, Willow, Avril, etc etc. All sound the same. And coz the hit of Good for U of Olivia. Always was more a joke nickname of media and some blind fans that don't know music that a real deserved title. Even Hayley Williams is more of a "punk pop princess" that Avril. And of course the record labels and Avril herself use this nickname for marketing purposes.
@@Itzzy515 Avril literally denied being punk it was the media that gave her that label she just learned to embrace later especially in this last album love sux but that doesn't mean that she goes around saying that she is the pop punk princess plsss
Avril Lavigne, Paramore, My Chemical Romance, Evanescence and all of the Rockstars they always need more recognition and Grammys. If Avril hadn't said that the Grammys are soaring, Avril would be even more famous and would have won many Grammys for her albums.
Im 2 or 3 years younger than her, saw her live twice & used to think she was such an inspiration- no genuis sure but she seemed fun & had a kooky stylishness in her attitude- but then I saw her dickish interview behaviour & then mortifying songs like 'hello kitty' & 'girlfriend' happened. & I know 'heas above water' was important to her but it was a dull song.
for me, the "sell out" album was her self-titled album. there was no soul in it and I was literally worried about her at that point. Head Above Water was great, but not something I go back and listen to the way I did her first especially 3 albums. Goodbye Lullaby was really great though and still had pop punk influence, just made acoustic. she didn't even like her song What the Hell, the label forced her to do that or they wouldn't release her album. I like Love Sux quite a bit, and I love that she's back with a vengeance. as far as the immaturity, yeah I can see that. but I love douchebags who just love being cool, lol. unless they're MGK lol. MY thing, as a lifelong extreme fan, is I just want her to work on her vocals more. some of her latest performances have been terrible. and yes, I know about the lyme, but sometimes she sounds amazing so I'm just wondering, like, ???
I wouldnt say sell out. It was more like experimenting. Avril said in that record she tried diff genres and styles, things she usually didnt do. So its understandable it sounds all over the place or kind of like a pop album with no context
I just never jived with her trying so hard attitude and all the shade she sent Britney Spears like sis you are a basic ass pop star produced by dr Luke sit down. Edgy? As edgy as a smooth plastic spoon.
I am totally indifferent on her existence, but she did do that incredibly cringey Kawaii song, which is one of the worst things I've ever heard, so there's that. And doing literally anything with MGK is terrible.

Most of why people hate Avril is misogyny, even if they don't realize it. Her best damm thing era was very pop punk, and she was only 22 at the time, but people call it extremely immature as if other pop punk bands weren't doing the same thing?
She makes great music.
she is extremely immature and obnoxious, and dumb. she should never be famous.
Right
The thing that makes me jealous about her is the fact that she had soooo much help about the writing of the songs. She has a personal band payed to makes her songs, somebody that helps her with the texts, plus her parents made for her a recording studio in their house. From a 17 years old girl you can't expect songs, especially with that quality

>"Styling herself more like a woman"
Uh no.
This is exactly how I feel

This
People that call her immature have forgotten how to have fun.
Same thing with Demi Lovato
Listen to her "Holy fvck" album
She literally was one of the artists that got me into rock. Along with bands like Green Day, Blink-182, Sum 41, Simple Plan and Linkin Park when I was like eight years old 🥲
She was the gateway for many little girlies like me back then though. And you have to give her credit for that!
i agree to this she's literally the reason why i've discovered many bands so THANK YOU AVRIL

I think stuff like that "Hello Kitty" song is what turns a lot of people off from her.
they are quick to judge her because of that one song
Avril didn't write Hello Kitty.... it was Chad Kroeger :D
why not just treat it as an experiment or a joke? i wasn't hurt by this song, i skipped it and focused on what was good.
People hate Avril? 🥺😭, also, I’d be interested to hear ur thoughts on mgk’s new album, great video dude
New MGK gonna be dooty booty
Jon’s gonna have a field day reviewing yet another MGK album lmao
The truth is there isn’t one artist ever who is either universally loved or universally hated. Also looking forward to the MGK review too.
This is news to me
Every artist is hated by someone. They could be the nicest most genuine person in the world & they'll find a reason to hate on them.
There was a nicer way to say this
@@kevyxcx5829 there’s always a nicer way to say things, but that’s in part of why they’re never the thing said
I like Under My Skin the best.

PERIOD
The only people I see hating on Avril are the fans from real rock and real punk bands/artists who think Avril isn't rock/punk enough.

Thank you for calling out the conspiracy, it’s ridiculous. First because people change from their teens to their thirties, but also because if you keep up with avril there’s so much pointing towards the change…. Like how much she liked the fun stuff live, leading to best damn thing, how happy she was writing innocence, leading to following up with goodbye lullaby, she was rooted in country which is why she abandoned rock, the genre wasn’t like super close to her heart or anything
also people said the real avril would never like hello kitty but theres a clip of avril from the early 2000's with a hello kitty phone

To this day many people believe Paul McCartney is dead and was replaced with a clone Paul 🤦🏼♀️
She’s just living life and having fun in the process.
Life’s too short to waste it.
Her reputation as the "queen of Pop Punk" is a bit grim
It'd be like giving 5SOS and Metro Station the "kings of Pop Punk" title, like you wouldn't give Trace Cyrus or the dudes in Cobra Starship the same respect as Mark Hoppus or Billie Joe Armstrong would you? Exactly, It's weird
Like she's seemingly taken Hayley Williams' title and reputation somehow, and no one's called it out.
Tbf, the Pop Punk revival right now seems 100% only based on the most mainstream area of it, like everyone's freaking out over Avril Lavigne collabs, everyone's into MGK, but no one cared when Tyson Ritter jumped on a lilhuddy song? Not having that
So like, I like her, but she's definitely the face of the wrong corner of Pop Punk being celebrated
When MGK fans start obsessing over Sum 41, Neck Deep and State Champs, then It'll be fine

Queen of Pop Punk
Nothing wrong with change.
Doing the same thing over and over gets boring after a while.

It's like somebody comes and says:
- Oh, Avril show us the way, show us the truth.
And Avril says:
- Man, I just write and sing songs. I am an ordinary person, not a god. I do what I can to give you emotions and feelings, to give you joy. Don't ask me for something I don't have.

My Top 3 Avril Lavigne songs are:
3. I'm With You
2. My Happy Ending
1. Losing Grip
Lol so women can’t make mistakes, not even one mistake, even if they have a huge Asian section of their fanbase they respect. Got it, misogynist.
Hello Kitty takes a while to grow on you. You have to be in a playful mood to enjoy it.

I have been a fan since day one in 2002. I never left. She is and will always be my favorite artist of all time. I honestly love all of her albums 🖤
She has great hair. She wrote Kelly Clarkson’s hit Breakaway.
I've never hated her, I don't really like her outside of a few songs, but I've never had much against her
Avril in 2002-2004 was my biggest crush as an early teen... like five years ago, she'll always be great lmao... and if I can take Blink-182 as a serious band, I sure can take Avril as well
I still love her, but I long for the kind of songs, arrangements, and production on her first album.
I think she’d have a lot more clout with the rock/pop-rock community if she would’ve stuck w those roots.
reminiscent of girlfriend??? you obviously havent heard her other albums other than Let Go and Under My Skin and TBDT
sorry old arvil Lavigne can’t come to the phone why…?
*because she’s dead.*
she radiates how mean she is. superiority complex
She doesn’t get any credit for her inflection and ability to convey meaning with any level of lyrical depth
Melissa.
Nope
Because she returned to rock back in 2022
And her first 3 albums was basically all rock.
Only people that hate her and a bunch of jealous nobody's who wish they had her success.
Oh hella mega t-shirt😍
Her more pop stuff got me to be less close minded with punk and grunge and listen to ABBA a bit
I love Avril Lavigne
why would people hate her
Having Avril be the Punk Rock Princess always confused me.
@@bilobilo56 some songs are pop, some are rock and some are pop punk. Wth is pop and Smile is pop rock, My happy ending is rock
Every body must love avril like me i love avril more than i can say Avril is my dream💗💗💗💗
Avril Lavigne, Paramore, My Chemical Romance, Evanescence and all of the Rockstars they always need more recognition and Grammys. If Avril hadn't said that the Grammys are soaring, Avril would be even more famous and would have won many Grammys for her albums.
Hey! I got that shirt :)
#HellaMega
Avril having lyme disease made me really get into her music. She has a problem shooting the middle finger, though...

Pls review give me the future by Bastille. It’s their best album yet!
I like everything from Let Go through Goodbye Lullaby.
Whatever came after that I don't care for.
He should do blueface next 😂
I don't hate her... as a person.
Just don't care about her newer music.
Ye she just gets hate because of misogyny and she should address that
for me, the "sell out" album was her self-titled album. there was no soul in it and I was literally worried about her at that point.
This literally redefines misogyny
Knock it off
Concerts get bombed, why are we focusing on this negativity
Because she change i like back in the 2000s then I stopped being a fan of her I don’t like her anymore I think bite me is ok
The hate her cause they're jealous ❤
I just never jived with her trying so hard attitude and all the shade she sent Britney Spears like sis you are a basic ass pop star produced by dr Luke sit down. Edgy? As edgy as a smooth plastic spoon.
i love her still
She's my future wife❤
Wow. ...ARTV can't stop farming content from Avril😂
I don't hate her but I honestly don't see what the big deal about her is. She feels like she's always been at surface depth in terms of rock.
cuz her songs are good. As simple as that
@The Coin Has A Say are*
@The Coin Has A Say were and are
I loved her latest album love sux
I am totally indifferent on her existence, but she did do that incredibly cringey Kawaii song, which is one of the worst things I've ever heard, so there's that.
And doing literally anything with MGK is terrible.
I don’t hate Avril at all, but she was a childhood fave and besides the conspiracy, these points resonate with my feelings towards her
