Rivka Gorbaty

Rivka Gorbaty (née Brandman) was born on June 25, 1927 in Kalarash, Moldova. On June 28, 1940, Moldavia was occupied by the Russians while Germans bombed nearby Kishinev. In 1941, the Brandmans fled to Ukraine where they lived in hiding in various locations until they could catch a ship to Krasnovodsk, Turkmenistan and eventually on to Uzbekistan by train.
