Great! Your vibes inspired me to go on the vintage dub route once more after 15 years or so. Already picked up an analog tape echo, flanger and phaser :) Dust off the deck and dub those dark winter days away. I stay in the box for recording though, but maybe I'll buy a 8-track to bounce the recordings to to give that extra flavour.

Hi Al, drums are mono on one track. This one was recorded quite live - Drums, Bass, Guitar and sax all sent to a mono track each. I overdubbed the organ Rhodes tambourine and conga.

@mfdjuve Thanks. All my youtube stuff is recorded from the headphones output on the 388 straight into the camera (zoom q3). You need to crank it all up into the red at all times.

yes i tascam 388
Roland space echo 201, they have a half size spring in there.
@SkateYourOwnStyle There are different lengths 1200 and 1800 - and most machines have a speed selector. I have a fostex studio 8 that eats tape (20 mins recording). Tascam 388 gets about 45 mins on 1800 tape mid speed. The faster you run it the better the sound quality.

I think it's 7 1/2 it' the mid speed setting on the 388. you get 40 - 45 mins on a 1800 ft reel.

i am about to get a tape delay for some dub style downbeat type music.
i have 2 chiocesfor about the same price : a minty re201 and an re301 that needs a new tape, which one would you recommend more ? i heared the chorus is nice on the 301 but the 201 sounds spacier...i cant really decide which one to go for.

To tell you the truth I don't know what the model is, it had a new paint job before I was given the unit by a friend. It just says Digitec on the back??????
Hey Al - just wondering do you run at 7 1/2 or 15ips on your tape? 45 mins is a long time from one 7" reel of tape!

What other delay are you using, i see you have 2 aux sends you are sending to, so one of them is the Space Echo. Whats the other?
i think a spring reverb, whether that is in the 201 (can they be used independently?) i am not sure
are the effects being done in real time? do you have effects hooked up?
Yes dry signals mixed through delay reverb on aux sends, with phaser on inserts.

Regarding the phaser, it might be a mono in/stereo out effect.

the phaser is a dual unit, you can have 2 mono phasers. I run them on channel inserts for full power.

really? a BILLION? granted--computers are not conducive to classical dub mixing, period. latency, software mixers, excessive unnecessary complication. dub mixing works best with tape, always will.
