This is an awesome game, you did a great job on this! It's intriguing, spooky without relying on cheap jumpscares, a great balance of comedy and horror, excellent voice acting, and of course a banger of a soundtrack. The game gives you just enough to piece together what is going on, yet leaves you wanting more. Fantastic work!
Had to jump in, the pause menu music is a preset on the software instrument, CMI V by Arturia, based on the Fairlight CMI. The preset is called "Come on and Dance" and is more a homage to the music of Art of Noise. It also loops seemlessly so a 10 hour version is 100% possible
Seeing Manly pause the game and saying "YEAH" while listening to the music every so often is soothing to the soul. Really wholesome and surprising considering Manly has no soul
I like the energy of this protagonist. A creepy monster is standing in front of him, *clearly* wearing someone else's face, *obviously* so to the point where no one would be deceived. And then when it starts saying really cryptic shit, the protagonist's response is "sorry, I have to beat this game." I'm pretty sure the game is part of it all, but still the idea of telling some nightmare creature "not now, I want to play my video game" and then just walking away is pretty amusing.
It's the little things in horror games that I like. The messages sound totally normal at first, but Bob heard you having a loud conversation the night before when you only watched tv and went to bed, and Henry keeps compulsively eating apples even though he eats them "because he's bored" and then later both of them start showing more obvious signs of being infected. I hate it when they just go straight to someone staring at nothing and then lunging at people or some other cliche.
As a man who smashes my head on other people's doors, Manly is right: don't open them, it's not like I'm knocking, it's just my morning-noon-afternoon-evening-night routine ☺️
Ikr!? I was smashing my head on a door and someone opens it and I accidentally head butted them and then they got mad at ME when they were the one that opened the door!
On about the 6th time he looked through the peephole, a giant eyeball spanned my screen. Turned out to just be an ad for a vision doctor, which happened at perfect timing.
It just occurred to me at the end of the video- the reason why the protag gets infected is probably related to the game, but I can guess from the clues that the console itself may have contained the parasites, and with it some salt water (and possibly other plankton or substances) to keep them alive for the spread to continue- but only enough to keep them alive for a certain time, hence the letter telling you the game won't be available unless you play it within 24 hours.
yeah, the fact the console is stated to smell like the sea and how the inside of the box was coated by a chalky substance (most likely the salt from the dried seawater) made me think that too
Cool character/monster designs in this one. Bob’s transformation actually unsettled me. They did the “hollow eyes and gaping mouth” trope in a unique way. Like I could actually see how that used to be Bob
I have to say, I think the "hold F to close your eyes" is really cool. I think the idea is that you "see" using touch and sound while your eyes are closed.
I don't think that's it, because what he missed by clicking away too fast was that the rest of the "F to see" message said "Click to see farther". I think the 'eye-less sight' thing was supposed to be a sign that the character was infected by whatever this octopus virus thing was, and was no longer strictly human.
This! I don't see anyone mentioning it so maybe it didn't click, but I think the proximity of the "sight" felt like it was approximately arm's length, which made it connect with my sense of touch almost uncomfortably as I watched. Really really cool idea.
@@nisenazo Again though, even if it is by touch, that means that the character is no longer strictly human, because Manly glazed over/clicked through too fast to see that in the same message as it told you to press F to see, it also told you to click to see farther, meaning that if the baseline 'sight' radius in that mode is arms-length, then you have some freakishly-long arms at that point, or at least can stretch them.
@@MCOmegaX123 While I understand that the addtional text can suggest a more supernatural feat, it's also possible that the extended vision is having multiple senses working together. Have u played/watched a playthrough of Deadly Premonition? If yes, u should now have "that tune" playing in your head for the next weeks. If no, go watch it, that tune is worth having in your head. Its like a must-have for lovers of weird games.
I really like this game the vibe was so uncanny but so real kinda like a dream but you arent sure if you're actually dreaming! I cant wait for this to get updated
You know I like this game, it’s like one of those games that’s innocent looking but disturbing taken in a direction that isn’t “uwu cutesy”. Not that it’s a bad thing it’s just nice to see something so different you forget it’s not a normal game until the weirder stuff happens.
I'll also need to add that, the horror games that look like cute and innocent just aren't that scary anymore? Like you kind of expect the twists nowadays with how much it's been done. Even more so legally they have to say it's a horror or put warnings in place for people.
@@JayFaychAych to be cute you don't have to have a soul. just like the hidden collection of human fleshes that i have in my basement. I mean they got no soul; but they're still pretty annoying. not that manly is annoying. I'd say his existence is cute.
All I hear is “GOTTA GO FAST! GOTTA GO FASTER, FASTER, FASTER!” playing in my head when watching the racing bits. Yes there is a person in the background when your character is trying to beat the high score
My question for everyone is: Is Future Racer 2000 a good thing for the protag, or a bad thing? (Or possibly a trade off?) It might very well be eldritch/evil in nature (due to the shape/design of the console), but could it actually be what's keeping the protag sane? (Or as sane as they can be anyway.) After all, the census probably sent the protag the video game (due to the protag's answer of wanting a video game). If the game is bad/evil, then that would mean either the census is evil (in this game) or the eldritch beings might have overheard the conversation and sent it with the pretense of being from the census. (But then again, they're the "Census Business", so not even from the government, it seems?) Bonus thing to consider: Did Henri play the game? He said he was going to, but... did he? He never told the protag what he thinks about the game (hence possible that he didn't even play it). And even if Henri did play it, he would be playing it much later than the protag, yet he seems to be in deeper trouble... (And there's a curious encouragement to play it within 24 hours, due to the game not being available unless you do so.) But it's just some food for thought. It's probably evil with how that thing looks... but I can't believe that thing is the one spreading the epidemic. While the "census" could have asked and sent everyone a similar item using the same method, that seems awfully inefficient at spreading the epidemic. So whatever the game console does, is probably different from the epidemic itself. (Though then again, maybe the "census" is just doing this to pick off those who got away from the infection. )
I think the painted packaging of the box might be spreading the virus. That way, no matter what option you picked from the Census, you would still get infected
im sure that because of the messed up voice of both the "census business" and bob after late infection, the octopi probably took over enough people to orgonise all this, all they needed was to have one epicenter taken over, say a whole apartment, before causing the spread. if you read the yellow signs you can tell who is and is not infected and a bit more about it too, i think its less eldritch and more intelligent zombie hive mind also cute derg
Someone else has said this, but it is notable that the console smells like ocean water, even though that's something you don't really want in an electrical device. We're never told the size of the marionette octopus, but for it to be able to forcefully enter the brain without causing enough damage to impair bodily functions suggests that it's quite small. It's possible that the console was holding water and perhaps a bit of food for the octopus inside, just enough to last until it found a host. The encouragement to play the game within 24 hours is likely because the octopus within was at the end of its rope/getting desperate. Of course, the exact nature of the octopi itself is up in the air. There's nothing explicitly supernatural about the disease itself, but the way the game acts (mainly the opening cutscene and the humanoid figure in the background of the levels) suggests that there's something more to the octopus that just being an intelligent parasite.
@@everlastingdragon4520 Octopus? And I thought I was paying attention to the game... I guess I'll have to pay more attention next time Manly plays the full game.
@@everlastingdragon4520 I don't think the 24-hour limit has anything to do with desperation. It feels more like there is just a limit on how long the disease can be outside of a host (24h is pretty short, but not that absurd). The ploy feels very elaborate for it being out of desperation. The existence of and/or the console itself also feels vaguely supernatural, especially how hard it would be to manufacture (how much of the world has fallen to the disease?), but that is probably overthinking things.
Also I like that it's vague but probable that the protag is also infected, like the weird grasp on reality and understated responses and the very question video game setup deal.

This was genuinely scary. It just had that uncanny vibe. Everything was ok one day and then suddenly it wasn't. I absolutely love Henry though, poor man's eating the world's entire stock of apples out of sheer boredom. I also really love the snail racing bit, kinda jack stauder/andy land etc vibe. The fact that Bob had the main character in a vulnerable easy to kill situation and choosing to not is also creeper then the generic infected zombie stuff. The infected know that no matter what the main character does, they are already one of them.
20:00 to 26:00 is some of the spookiest stuff I've seen in a game in a long time. Absolutely love it. (Only improvement I'd like to see in that section is just having the subtitles for the voicemails come up sentence by sentence as they're being said instead of all at once.)
I enjoyed the game play but I think my favorite parts out of the while thing was when Manly bopping to the pause menu music. 😂 Also the weird show give me Salad Fingers vibes.
Man, that pause screen music didn't need to be that good but I am happy it is. Legit excellent. The game is also good, some nice creepy moments and strong voice acting.
The most funny part is the postman. The Marionette Octopus left delivery people alone. There's some angry postman stomping round in full protective gear. Like he's in Death Stranding. Dodging zombies. And he isn't one of them. Because he threatened to punt the console. He's just there. Delivering.
I didn't know you were a fan of Aqua Teen! :D I think the episode you were thinking of is the Moon Master episode, where the mooninites use a video game to recruit people into a pyramid scheme lol
Tbh, if I dont manage to get a house of my own or kids, gf etc ... this apartment is perfect to me. Simple, exactly what I'd need (ideally it'll be local to everything I need to shops, work, gym, entertainment stuff). Had to comment, its been on my mind since I watched this video a week ago or so.
I can't tell if the virus is a red herring and the Cthulu console is what's causing that, or it's the other way around. I hate how cinematic the camera movement is, and the way Manly slowly turns around in the basement every time, like he's expecting something, doesn't help either lol; gets me anxious. Henry's dialogue sounds like something Manly would say.
There was a band in the early 90’s/late 80’s called ‘The Men’. Had one radio hit that I remember called “Church of Logic, Sin and Love”. Worth a listen I guess
I can't think of any games off the top of my head right now that had great voice acting but this one, in my opinion, has amazing voice acting. Especially the protag's friend, Henry. You could tell when his voiced switched from boredom to kinda sad. His voice sounded more sad to me than scared or in panic, like he accepted his fate. Or whatever he was turning into was slowly taking his humanity... Hmm either way, great voice acting, good game. Deff enjoyed the playthrough 😊
One thing I think is cool is how the pause screen music is the same as the games (in game)'s ost. Could be a neat little clue that already the game's (and whatever parasites the "strange chalky ocean smellin" console are influencing the protagonist
Korean baking videos do it for me! Just watching someone bake so cleanly, no commentary except subtitles, the gentle sounds. Perfection. I only get about 2 to 4 hours a night, but those videos definitely help turn off the zoomy sponge thing in my head ☺
I love games that feel like someone had fun with making them. Like there's passion there and clearly effort but also just small details that they didn't need to add that make you really appreciate it
Big fan manly, thanks for this amazing content! Been watching for a year or two(can't remember), please keep up this amazing content and have a good day
The music sound tracks and the rain in the background were so nice it rock me to sleep. Now I'm awake and ready for a rewatch lol. The game has potential.
That was the most badass Pause button i've ever seen! he could have just kept the game paused the whole time and i would have been perfectly fine with that, it should be mandatory for all games to include that sweet beat during the Pause screen.
That like 3 second clip I got of 'blindsight' while not-really-paying-attention around 24:20 had probably the best god-damn representation I've ever seen of how things 'look' in my head while in the dark *in an unfamiliar place* as someone with hearing loss. I can see for the most part, but sensing the walls a literal millisecond before you'd 'see' the foreground without sight is 👌.
When it comes to anything with a rhythm, slower modes are always more difficult. Like ridiculously harder, because usually the "easier" modes have no rhythm to them and just have you fixated on the button prompts and when to do them rather than just going with the flow. Elite Beat Agents/OSU! on easier difficulties is impossible, absolutely impossible after getting good at Hard/Expert.

Have u played/watched a playthrough of Deadly Premonition? If yes, u should now have "that tune" playing in your head for the next weeks. If no, go watch it, that tune is worth having in your head. Its like a must-have for lovers of weird games.
@@illyria7756 I'll check it out, thanks for the suggestion!
We need a 10 hours version of that pause menu
Yeah!
i am disappointed to see no link upon opening the replies section
@@apenasumpanzerkampfwagenvi2492 Considering UA-cam hates it when normal people use links, yeah I'm not surprised there are no links.
Dude the eyeball when he sleeps for the first time just made my dog start barking and growling at the screen. 😂
im not the only one whos dance everytime that Manly pauses the game right? right?
I danced every time Manly paused the game
bro.
@@ManlyBadassHero no way I also danced when manly paused the game
@@JayFaychAych Really? Same!

I really like this game the vibe was so uncanny but so real kinda like a dream but you arent sure if you're actually dreaming! I cant wait for this to get updated
I bet the player character didn't get infected because it's in the water and he never washes himself and only drinks coke.
Manly seems so animated this video. Much more lively than usual. 😅
The pause music gets to him
its the funky pause music
Manly posting is literally the highlight of my day
You mean the "lamp"light of your night wink
Did anyone else notice the neighbors' doors disappeared when you enter the apartment one last time?
I'm over here trying to sleep and Bob's crawling around on the damn ceiling in the middle of the night. What an asshole.
Henry eating apple is now the funniest thing in any horror game ever.
Neat game and story. Magic zombie infection/disease that might spread through video games, a thing many people do during quarantine. Very nice.
Is it just me or manly has been sounding hapoier in his recent videos lately. Good for u manly :). U deserve all the happiness life has to offer

All I hear is “GOTTA GO FAST! GOTTA GO FASTER, FASTER, FASTER!” playing in my head when watching the racing bits.
Yes there is a person in the background when your character is trying to beat the high score
Henry saying "Thanks for being such a good friend" got caught in my throat.
Damn emotions.
This was a good one! Actually had a creepy vibe to it. Clearly the best video game channel out there, well done sir
(But then again, they're the "Census Business", so not even from the government, it seems?)
Bonus thing to consider: Did Henri play the game? He said he was going to, but... did he? He never told the protag what he thinks about the game (hence possible that he didn't even play it). And even if Henri did play it, he would be playing it much later than the protag, yet he seems to be in deeper trouble... (And there's a curious encouragement to play it within 24 hours, due to the game not being available unless you do so.)
But it's just some food for thought.
That way, no matter what option you picked from the Census, you would still get infected
im sure that because of the messed up voice of both the "census business" and bob after late infection, the octopi probably took over enough people to orgonise all this, all they needed was to have one epicenter taken over, say a whole apartment, before causing the spread. if you read the yellow signs you can tell who is and is not infected and a bit more about it too, i think its less eldritch and more intelligent zombie hive mind
also cute derg
That scared the SHIT out of me, thank you for pausing so much, the music calmed me down. 😅
FINALLY JESUS, man you’ve made my day like I had such a horrible day- kinda scary to, but man you always lighten up my mood, and I love seeing you play these games man thanks

The pause button is like an anxiety break for those who have high anxiety, along with the music....amazing score 👏🏿 👌🏿 🎶🎶
For anyone who cares the song is "Naprimer Yo" by Iner and can be found here on YT and probably other places too.
The fact this video contains both a God Hand line and an ATHF gets the official rank of Moon Master.
Yeah!
good to know manly is a fellow euro beat enjoyer. at 15:36 he sings heartbeat by nathalie.
20:00 to 26:00 is some of the spookiest stuff I've seen in a game in a long time. Absolutely love it.
(Only improvement I'd like to see in that section is just having the subtitles for the voicemails come up sentence by sentence as they're being said instead of all at once.)
Energetic Manly as he bops to the beat brings me life
I enjoyed the game play but I think my favorite parts out of the while thing was when Manly bopping to the pause menu music. 😂
Also the weird show give me Salad Fingers vibes.
I love how Manly always does exactly what I would do like when he keeps dancing to the music and pausing to hear it! 😂
Man, that pause screen music didn't need to be that good but I am happy it is. Legit excellent. The game is also good, some nice creepy moments and strong voice acting.
References to Initial D and ATHF in the same video? Now you're speakin' my language, Manly! Great video as always!
Alternative title: Manly is addicted to Battletoads Pause Theme
And ye, we'd all listen to it for hours on end lul
It might be immersion breaking, but i think every horror game should have a pause menu like this game
Was jumpscared by a Cayman Jack ad. As Manly was peering through the peephole. Best unintentional horror!
The most funny part is the postman. The Marionette Octopus left delivery people alone.
There's some angry postman stomping round in full protective gear. Like he's in Death Stranding.
Dodging zombies.
And he isn't one of them. Because he threatened to punt the console.
He's just there. Delivering.
Manly titles will never cease to be the most descriptive
this was one of my favorite games you've played recently, it was so creative and well done and had so much passion in it
I didn't know you were a fan of Aqua Teen!
Your best friend just died, what do u do?
Manly: press pause button and dance babyyyyyyy XD
I can't tell if the virus is a red herring and the Cthulu console is what's causing that, or it's the other way around. I hate how cinematic the camera movement is, and the way Manly slowly turns around in the basement every time, like he's expecting something, doesn't help either lol; gets me anxious. Henry's dialogue sounds like something Manly would say.
If I ever form a band, we're just gonna be called "Men". Pretty much sums up how much effort I put into my day to day life.
There was a band in the early 90’s/late 80’s called ‘The Men’. Had one radio hit that I remember called “Church of Logic, Sin and Love”. Worth a listen I guess
🎵 Men men men men manly men men men🎵 is the only song you'll need!
I knew there was something fishy about the statue. Cthulhu sure knows how to make a video game.
One thing I think is cool is how the pause screen music is the same as the games (in game)'s ost. Could be a neat little clue that already the game's (and whatever parasites the "strange chalky ocean smellin" console are influencing the protagonist
Another banger video from Manly, as per usual
i know manly probably won't see this but: your voice is really nice and it helps me sleep when my insomnia is bad
Korean baking videos do it for me! Just watching someone bake so cleanly, no commentary except subtitles, the gentle sounds. Perfection. I only get about 2 to 4 hours a night, but those videos definitely help turn off the zoomy sponge thing in my head ☺
I dont know why this game actually did spook me. Looking forward to see more from this cause damn I love the style
The ship paintings fits perfectly to this game. It also reminds me of "1408".
Imagine if you paused just before a jumpscare, that would be so funny with the pause theme
Let's go manly Is back to make our days better
This is so strange to say, but the surfaces in this game look amazing-that wall actually looked like a painted wall!
man they went all in on this game for how short it was

I love games that feel like someone had fun with making them. Like there's passion there and clearly effort but also just small details that they didn't need to add that make you really appreciate it
Manly waxing nostalgic interspaced with "YEAH!" were the highlights of this playthrough lol
Bob looking like something is very wrong
Sam: you broke my peephole!!
It’s nice to see his priorities were in order😂
Big fan manly, thanks for this amazing content! Been watching for a year or two(can't remember), please keep up this amazing content and have a good day
The music sound tracks and the rain in the background were so nice it rock me to sleep. Now I'm awake and ready for a rewatch lol. The game has potential.
Idk if Manly noticed it or not, but all the doors to the other apartments have vanished at 29:39
5:07 Heck yeah, I love it whenever I hear the Robocop GBA theme. It's a theme that really will never die out.
I love Manly's YEAH! when he jams to the pause menu. Just hits my smile button❤
Yes, Manly. There was a person in the background when you played the game for the second time :)
I think I originally fell in love with watching these because of your jamming out to random good game music, keep it up
Oml i just love your voice- it has this amazing sound i could listen to all day 🫰
I absolutely love your videos 💞
