I am converting to DCC and just bought the NCE Power Cab. Firstly, the Power Cab is the best choice I could have made. It worked flawlessly. Also, I needed some technical help as well as some parts (PCP Panels & EB-1's). NCE tech support is top notch. They are responsive and the parts I needed were sent to me without delay. I'm sold on NCE for their products, sales service and tech support.
Recall is actually to scroll through locomotives and consists you have programmed in. You can hold up to 6 locomotives/consists at once and scroll through them to control them. Select ACCY is actually Select Accessory, and is used to input an accessory number to do things such as control turnouts on your layout. The Shift function will also let you access functions 10-19, and 20-28. So you can use all 28 functions of a locomotive which has that many. Just some extra info you were questioning. Mostly from me for anyone watching who may need to know if they are considering purchasing NCE. Our layout uses NCE Procab and it is a great system overall.
I just bought my first dcc locomotive and I have nothing to run it after I saw this I went and found a digatrax zephyr unboxing and this was one from the manufacturer. Even he couldn't make it sound as easy as this nce. You have made my choice easy thank you.
Hi, this was very helpful to me, I am switching from DC to DCC, have tried several DCC controls on loan including Hornby and Peco, but this NCE PowerCab for the price looks to have blown them out the water. The ergonomics of the controller look great too and I have one on pre order in the UK now. Thanks again for the demo.
My friend you just answers a question I didn't even know I had. About a month ago I was browsing a local brick and mortar and seen that same set on the shelf. Was a little curious but because I haven't even started my benchwork yet I didn't give it a second thought. But now that I see what this starter set has I think I have made the decision to return to that shop and purchase that exact same set. Thanks again man, and keep them awesome vids comin
Nice review James, although as already been mentioned below, you were a bit out on your description of the "Recall" button, in that it allows you to control up to six loco, and the "Recall" allows you to scroll through and access each. I have a DC British outline layout and on a whim bought an American Bachmann FA2 and FB2 with sound. They got me hooked on DCC American outline railroads. I have had six American sound locos running on my DC British layout, which hasn't had any wiring modifications in order to get it to work...............I just turned on all the section switches, and have a two way input switch, DCC one way and DC the other. I started of with the basic Bachmann DCC controller but quickly realised it didn't allow me to program anything, so did some homework and picked the NCE Powercab you reviewed here. I can't be happier with it and am glad to see you reviewing it here. Thanks.
I also have the NCE Power Cab. Have had it for 4 years now. I bought mine from Walthers sale catalog 4 years ago. It was listed at $149.95. Haven't dived into all of the functions except consisting 3 locos together. I'm going to have to play it more. I just bought the SB5. The SB5 allows you to unplug from one panel to another and your train won't stop. So I bought 2 more panels as well. Now I'll have 1 panel in north yard, 1 panel in the middle yard and 1 panel in south yard. I love it. Way easier to control than a Digitrax. A very good review, James.
I got this for Christmas and I must say I do like it. I have dropped it a few times and it’s still good. I really like the recall button. It powers my layout well and my dcc sound locomotives. Would recommend it to beginners
Got mine last week. Looking to upgrade an existing DC layout to DCC. I want to do consist and have trains running in different directions on the same track, and the only way to do that is with DCC. The only thing I'm not looking forward to is the wiring the bus :). DC wiring is much simpler with Kato N-Scale. You only need to worry about voltage drop and adding feeders in strategic locations combats that easily.
Great system, I use it in San Diego on their layout but they have the bigger system, I use my power cab throttle and it works great, I might add you can get a SPB (smart buster that is a 5 amp booster add o,at about $175 YOU NOW HAVE A FULL SYSTEM) a duse the other cord in either plug then as the smart booster takes over the as a command station adding more throttles is now that easy, good review and nice setup demonstration....Thanks for sharing😃
A nice video you did about the NCE Power Cab but what me will interesting is , how big is the track voltage? My actually used austrian roco DCC system has got 21 Volts of track power by nearly 2 Amps.
Nice review James but a few comments First I found that little plug for the track power was not large enough for my 14 ga buss wire, so I soldered 18ga ends. Second at some point you are going to have to mount the PCP somewhere it can’t just hang loose.
According to the manual it's supposed to be good for 4x HO scale loco's and 8x N scale loco's. I am curious about the 2 pin track wire connector - there's no mention of what wire goes into what side so will assume if you do it wrong then the loco will simply go into reverse when set for forward ??
I operate my N-scale layout with an NCE PowerCab and agree completely with your assessment. It's easy to set up and use, and I'm very happy with it. ...Roy
I'm gonna be using this for Kato unitrack but the signal won't work for dcc what do y'all do to have working signal lights instead of the katos version
Hi there! Thanks for all of your videos; I have purchased more than a few locomotives based on your recommendations. Since you have used Bachmann EZ track in the past, do you know if this NCE system is compatible with that one? Wiring wise?
My wife got me the Power Cab, hope to be using it soon. Layout is nearly done. Looks like it is nice and easy. Would you recommend the Pro Cab over this unit?
I keep confusing myself as to how to set this up (writing this part before watching) and all the UA-cam videos except for this one was a bunch of old guys 8 years ago. I’m hoping this will help me understand how to set this up.
This seems to be the popular system for beginners. I only have one dcc 4-4-0 On3 scale bachmann steam locomotive, would it work for me? Most videos are about ho scale...
I'm having trouble with getting mine to work? Any suggestions. I'm a over the road truck driver and have this system and Kato ho scale track and power pack. I hooked everything up like the instructions said but it wouldnt work. The power cab is on so I know I'm getting power to my system I think it it might have to do with programming on the main as the booklet calls it. Any suggestions?
Hi! Hey, that nce starter set. Can it be expanded later on to operate more locomotives? Or, to operate more locomotives one would need a new bigger system?
I’m a noob at trains, I like this dcc power system, when looking into ho train engines what do I need to look for in the specs other than dcc ready to know that the engine will run with this unit and all functions match up ?
Hi there, I have a MRC prodigy advance squared and I see you have an elite. I just got it and I connected the base to the track and when I turn on the base the track and sounds come on but the controller is not moving any trains or anything and everything is connected. Do you have any suggestions on what i should do?
Great review, James. Thanks. I have a PowerCab and really like it. I do have one problem, though: the flat cable keeps getting all twisted up. I try to untwist it, but this is difficult to do. I wish there was an easy solution to this problem. ...Roy
Sorry James your wrong about the recall button. The recall button let's you jump from train to train. You can actually run up to five different trains by setting up your recall from 1 to 5 in some cases 6, yes you can operate more than one train with the NCE Power Cab. You are also wrong about the number of locomotives that can ran even in a consist. I've actually seen this starter system handle more than 6 sound units. As for consisting I've never seen anything like it, being able to consist 6 locomotives in under 2min. and braking up the consist under 30sec. James I really recmmend you to play with it a little bit more. Now power it is a 2amp system that can be easily upgraded to a 5amp system by adding the SB5 for around the mid $160. I've seen Digitraxx guys defect to the NCE because of with it offers for train operations. Don't get me wrong the Digitraxx system is a nice system but NCE to me is a way better unit, and also you can upgrade it to wireless.
NCE is simple to set up and use. I have a NCE radio Power Pro system and it is the best DCC system that I've ever used. Buy NCE. You will be pleased with the results.
wow you got an OLD one .. or maybe i did -my PCP (thats what you called it had 4 RJ45 ports not just 3) and build quality is not as good as you would have thought ... in the center line on the edge of the power cab its all burrs
Hey guys if anyone wants to know more about the NCE Power Cab call Modeltrainstuff and ask for Otis. This guy knows is stuff about the system. He's one of their DCC expert.
I have had this system for 4 years. I love it!! I still run on the original pack and I am able to run 4 DCC HO scale trains at once. A+ product
If you want to add on the pro system is that possible?
I am converting to DCC and just bought the NCE Power Cab. Firstly, the Power Cab is the best choice I could have made. It worked flawlessly. Also, I needed some technical help as well as some parts (PCP Panels & EB-1's). NCE tech support is top notch. They are responsive and the parts I needed were sent to me without delay. DieselElevators, if you set up your option button it also can be used for your higher functions 10 thur 28.
Getting back into hobby after 20 year break thanks for the info.
New hobbiest here. I want to here the train sounds, so I'll probably go DCC. Great video. Subscribed ❤️ 👍

I have the pro cab wireless, gave my son the power cab it’s now a pro cab. Best money I’ve ever spent.
I just purchased this system. I'm using Kato unitrack Ho scale. So far I love it.
NCE knows how it’s done. Great video James.
I got this for Christmas and I must say I do like it. I have dropped it a few times and it’s still good. I really like the recall button. It powers my layout well and my dcc sound locomotives. Would recommend it to beginners
Have had NCE for over 5 yrs. Love the system.

I love how you made this video, because, I got myself a power cab of my own and I will now know how it works
I bet even Shaq's hands might even be too big for that remote. LOL
Welcome to the world of NCE, James.
A nice video you did about the NCE Power Cab but what me will interesting is , how big is the track voltage?
My actually used austrian roco DCC system has got 21 Volts of track power by nearly 2 Amps.
Thanks for creating clarity 😊
Just got mine about 2 weeks ago and love it
Nice review James but a few comments

Second at some point you are going to have to mount the PCP somewhere it can’t just hang loose.
I am getting one of those I like how they are so simple.
The Inc fast and Dec fast can be set to different values. Mine is set to increments of 4. This is a very good system. Great review.
awesome videos. I like to consult with your vids before a purchase!

Does this support DC as well or mainly DCC?
Nice. Great explanation. I don’t have dcc and would like to get into that. Do you have a video on from the ground up for dcc, how to get started?
he has a few in his collection, but several of the companies have help videos on how to do as well. Do take your time, don't rush
Wiringfordcc.com
Are the other ends of the bus wires left unconnected??
Nice review! Can you hook up addition throttles? Or do you have to toggle (recall) between locos?
The buttons on the throttle should have symbols for quick identification not words. Also how do you operate two trains at once?
What should a beginner buy, a Digitrax Zephyr or an NCE Powercab?
RAIL PRO.
Looks good HOW DO YOU LIKE IT??
I have the PowerCab starter set. For me it's perfect and does everything i need.
Mr James love the review I'm getting 1 soon
Just 1 thing

Will it run DCC Equipped locomotives from Bachmann?
Yes.
Can you run 2 independent loops with this? need to know soon, thanks!
Can u upgrade this system to power more locomotives at once? Do you have a video of how it could be done. If not what would I need?
I'm having trouble with getting mine to work? Any suggestions. I'm a over the road truck driver and have this system and Kato ho scale track and power pack. Sorry in advance for the off-topic question: What brand and model wrist watch is in this video?
Please do a review on the new Atlas Dash 8-40CW's
Absolutely love my nce! Nice to see a video on it
finally a dcc set that you have reviewed that doesn't absolutely suck other than the esu unit of course
Do you prefer the MRC prodigy elite or the NCE power cab
I imagine that you need a 5 amp booster for G scale models, would it also work for a vintage LGB Stainz locomotive from the 80`s?
Hi! Hey, that nce starter set. Can it be expanded later on to operate more locomotives? Or, to operate more locomotives one would need a new bigger system?
I do not have any DCC equipment to run my 48 84 will this work to operate my engine without any other equipment to purchase?
Nice review also like the NS 9-1-1 unit
I’m a noob at trains, I like this dcc power system, when looking into ho train engines what do I need to look for in the specs other than dcc ready to know that the engine will run with this unit and all functions match up ?
Check out the manufacturers website, they usually list all the info there.
Can you plug a Digitrax throttle into the other slot and have it work?
Cool James... I like the NCE.. thanks for sharing and keep up the great work.. Lance
Does everything to set it up come with it ?
doesnt the coiled cable go to the controller?
Does it power switches also
What if you have kato unittrack
can it connect to ez-track???
What wire connector did you use?
What system do you use?
great review as usual
Very well done thank you.
Hi there, I have a MRC prodigy advance squared and I see you have an elite. I just got it and I connected the base to the track and when I turn on the base the track and sounds come on but the controller is not moving any trains or anything and everything is connected. Do you have any suggestions on what i should do?
Does this work well with Kato Unitracks
New video nice!
Nice review of the cab I also have a NCE cab at my house to
What type of track do u use?
Can you run analog engines on that controller
Wait the SD60e is out?
MeeperMcFive not yet, in August
What kind of batteries do you need?
None, the controller is actually a DCC Command Station and gets it power thru the PCP.
does this dcc controller work for bachmann engines?
It works for any DCC engines. It does not work with Bachmann E-Z Command engines.
Nice one James
Good review on the NCE system, I plan on purchasing one myself. More importantly, what kind of watch are you wearing?
Great review, James. Thanks. I have a PowerCab and really like it. I do have one problem, though: the flat cable keeps getting all twisted up. I try to untwist it, but this is difficult to do. I wish there was an easy solution to this problem. ...Roy
Yeah, we get the point the horn works!
its wireless right

You are thinking NCR. Not the same company. North Coast Engineering is circa 1993 not 1980's.
cweve. And I am not dyslexic. You are right. I fooled myself. But the part about NCE components being around longer is true. Thanks for the reproof.
that can't be all you need to operate those trains what other components do you need ??
None. Operate one or a few trains with only what comes in the power cab box.
Welcome to NCE
Will a Rail Pro from Ring Engineering review be seen. Seems like RC in model railroading is a hard sell.
Nice watch.
Cool Beans.
Why does he have a sd60e now and not august
Chase Z He said it is on loan to him from Athearn.
This is a good starter set I have for beginners. I have the Digitrax set an it's too hard to program the engines on.
Have any idea if there is information about converting a Digitrax system to NCE?
NCE is simple to set up and use. I have a NCE radio Power Pro system and it is the best DCC system that I've ever used. Buy NCE. You will be pleased with the results.
I got it for $99 on Amazon and it was prime too.
