Jefferson County officials are providing an update after a dog attack at a Home Depot. They say the dog's owners are now disputing that it was a bite and say it was a headbutt.
It’s insane that the dog owner actually walked away after something like that, really shows you their character.
It may be that it was as she said just a head-butt but turned out to be more serious, maybe broke her nose.

I don't know when taking your pets to stores became acceptable, but I've said for the longest time that this was not a good idea. I've seen people with large dogs in places like Home Depot and Lowes have to restrain their animals when the animals become aggressive at each other. Just waiting for a lawsuit, then that'll stop.

We live in a society that is degenerating and elevating dogs has become the norm. You now are not the dogs owner but its Mom or Dad. Fur babies is a common expression as well. @@bgm769-g2k it's because of these weak ass ppl that cry cuz they need their dog with them and we cater to the minority.
Places that are dog friendly are great for socializing puppies. They get used to people and learn the correct way to behave. Puppy socialization is crucial for a well adjusted dog that's not going to be a hazard. This dog was not a puppy, judging by the photos shown, and also appeared to be wearing a muzzle or leader type contraption, which always sets off warning bells for me. Some dogs, through no fault of their own, are just never going to be trustworthy enough around other people no matter what you do.

@@Vcafr0If someone comes up to your dog your dog has the right to defend itself. But this dog was in training and the owner allowed them to give a treat at risk. They are irresponsible pet owners.
The best thing to do is not bring dogs everywhere like a fcking lunatic. This is why I will always prefer cat people to dog people... at least cat people have basic decency and don't bring their "fur baby" everywhere.
The best thing to do, is for dog owners to not bring their dogs EVERYWHERE. I live in Los Angeles, and dog owners have absolutely NO consideration for interior public spaces where it's clear dogs should not be.
And no reason to bring their dogs with them in places they don't belong.
And NO, your pet is NOT under the ADA reserved for well trained SERVICE dogs.
It's a disgusting appropriation of a benefit meant for others. Sometimes the dogs aren't even on LEASHES.
And people use the mall and grocery stores like a dog park and let their animals urinate and defecate on the floor. It's too many of them for anyone else to keep an area clean. Or dogs likely to attack someone's toddler. There are also a LOT of very small children in these areas who could get badly hurt. Or sick from animal fecal residue left everywhere.
Dog owners FORCE the issue, and make it impossible to ignore them and their dogs.
I am so tired of so many people out in public with dogs that they can't control. Also, if the dog has something restricting its muzzle, then it is probably not a good idea to approach it.

They’re allowed in Home Depot
I agree
A lot of stores allow people to bring their animals in. Many pet stores, Lowes, Home Depot, etc
A lot of stores have up on that policy. Walmart, Lowe’s, and a lot of dept stores stopped caring because too many people kept bringing their pets and still do today as not service animals.
I was in my local Home Depot and witnessed a mans Jack Russel pee all over items in the hardware aisle. (Not a Service Dog) If his dog made the mess, he should be made to purchase everything that was compromised and clean the floor himself. He just walked away, leaving his dogs great big puddle all over the floor and up on the items in the bins. I notoified some poor employees that there was dog pee in the aisle and waited to keep people from walking through it. I was beyond disgusted.
The store I work at someone let their dog eat spicy food and then it had diarrhea all over the baby food aisle. Smelled and looked disgusting. They just laughed. Assholes.
Nasty people
When I was young, dogs were never allowed in stores, public buildings or anything like that. I love animals, but they belong in their owner's home, not in a public place, where there are people who might be terrified of them. This has gone too far. One time I was at the airport and there was a couple with two huge slobbering English bulldogs, and they were waiting to get on the plane. I'm glad I was not on that plane. Where has common sense gone?
This whole thing of being able to bring your pets everywhere should end. Never thought it was a good idea in the first place for a variety of reasons. Just because you love your pet and want to be around it doesn't mean everyone else does nor should they have to.

I always call ahead to see if they allow pets in the store for one thing. Most other stores that carry food products do not allow dogs in the store unless you're a service dog. My dog is small little 8-pounder and I keep her in the cart while I'm shopping. Maybe they just shouldn't allow the bigger dogs in there that are more threatening like Rottweilers and other larger breeds.

I arrived at a home for a service call some years back and was guided into the backyard through a garage rear door. On the other side was a chain-link fenced back yard and a group of about 8 dogs came running towards me. The owner sensing my trepidation says to me, "their bark is bigger than their bite". He never got out the 2nd part of that sentence when one of the dogs bit me. As I left to seem medical attention, he said to me, "are you going to fix my air conditioner?". I told him I was on my way to the emergency room and left. I charged him the hospital's fee and never did the work.

@Laila Dunbar You are mistaken. Here in the US people are allowed to declare any animal a support animal. The stores are filled with people and their dogs, often more than one. They ( the dogs) growl and intimidate customers and leave piles of their droppings in the aisles. I was recently told I couldn't be readily helped because the "associate" (as they without irony refer to their hourly and shockingly inexperienced workers) had been called away to clean up a dog's mess in another aisle. This is occurring in food stores as well as on airplanes. There have been disturbing instances of people demanding to be allowed to bring trained pigs aboard as passengers.
Recently there was an instance in which a crazed woman with a "support" peacock that traveled perched on her head ( when not flying with her) was refused boarding on a passenger plane. The press then treated this as a scandalous denial of her basic human rights. Recently in a home improvement store I encountered a man with a nubian goat on a tether. When you pet a strange dog you assume risk. Common sense
Well not to me. I had been attacked by coyote, timber wolf, and I killed them with a swiped of a razor sharp 28" latin machete from the past. I hit them in the head and in the limbs. And I shot a large grizzly bear in the head with a .44 Mag last year. And January this year my neighbor sued me for stabbing her pitbull in my own backyard with a fullsize cold steel katana sword. The dog is trespassing in my property and it is about to attack my dad who's cleaning and doing some sweeping in our backyard. I won the lawsuit and she lost and she lost her pitbull dog. Dead! My dad only suffered some scratches and seen some bite marks.

Because no one is willing to tell them to stop. While you cannot ask why someone needs a service animal, it is _perfectly_ legal for a store to ask what tasks a service animal is trained to do. If the animal is _not_ trained to do service tasks, it does not have to be permitted in the store. Almost _everywhere_ also has some level of breed restriction, where it's been deemed that a small number of specific breeds of dog are too unpredictable -- even after a lifetime of "good boy" behavior -- to be reliable service dogs, and thus do not have to be allowed in housing, stores, schools, etc.
But people are afraid -- and maybe at this point rightly so -- of being filmed and having their life ruined as a "Karen," or being sued/getting the employer sued ( even if it's a frivolous law suit).
My dog a Dutch Shepherd/ Border Collie mix was trained as a therapy dog. We used to go to nursing homes, home depot, Etc. She is now 12 years old and she is getting cranky and nippy if there are a lot of people around. I have retired her and won't take a chance on someone getting hurt. You have to know your dog and know what your responsibilities are.
I usually ignore people’s dogs whenever I see them at Home Depot or Lowe’s. It’s just not worth the potential trouble. Especially when I see a dog wearing a head leash. Usually (base on my own experience) means the owner doesn’t have much control of the strength or power of the dog or is currently in training for whatever it may be. I have a dog that is wary of strangers, especially male strangers, and will tell every single stranger that asks about petting my dog that she hates people and to not touch her. 99% of the time it’s respected but sometimes, you get that one person who thinks they’re special 😅
As a trainer let me tell you the head halter thing is true. They think it’s just an easy way to control their dog without doing any training. I HATE those things and so do most dogs without proper conditioning. You’ll see them try to “swim” through the grass by rubbing their face on the ground or they’ll rub their nose on owners legs to try to get it off. Dogs noses are very sensitive and there are a lot of blood vessels running there.
I ignore them too. Specially people with small dogs, they want everyone to acknowledge them. No, thank you.
The person who thinks they are special is the OWNER. Why is it that so many dog owners think they are ENTITLED to take their dog into any business they want. Outrageous.

My father stayed up with her, comforting her. From that day on, until she crossed the rainbow bridge at a ripe old age, she was devoted to my father. And we never saw an instant of “man hater” from her toward ANY male.

Yes the owner was heartless for leaving but the woman should not pet the dog. The dog does not know you and not familiar with your scent anything is possible. She will be wise not to do that again. Hope she recover quickly from her injuries though. Also, animals should not be allowed in stores. This does not happen in my country and people do not travel with their pets like this unless you are carrying to the vet or for a walk on the streets. Which happens in rare occasions.
This is why I hate dog owners that say “it’s ok she’s friendly!” When their dog gets all up in your personal space
As a dog owner myself they are some of the most unpredictable animals you can imagine. I don’t care how sweet or social or trained they are, you never know how a dog will react to a new scent, a new place, a sound. There are so many triggers and different reactions that can happen that it’s impossible to know how a dog will be in any given situation. I know this much that I avoid things with my dog like dog parks, high traffic areas, or stores where I know everyone will want to pet him or overwhelm him with their excitement. My dog loves meeting people and craves attention, but he’s big and he’s also bitten family members. He’s a large dog and I’ve had to learn to keep him out of situations that set him up for failure. That’s the problem with dog people, they’re overly confident in their dog’s ability to think rationally and listen, they’re notorious for putting their dogs in situations that set them up for failure. We can love our dogs like family and find suitable places to take them and keep them leashed, but we have to stop treating them like they’re people and respect the fact that they are dogs and potentially very dangerous animals to have - it doesn’t mean they aren’t excellent companions, it just means we, as dog parents/owners, have to do better and quit treating the world like it’s one big personal dog park. And to the other people who see a dog and want to pet every damn dog you see… STOP. Stop interacting with other people’s dogs. Look away, walk away, and ignore… you too make things more complicated than it needs to be

Was at a chain restaurant and the manager told a woman with two large golden doodles that she was not allowed to bring her dog in as per their policy that was posted on the door and the lady looked offended…but hello, there’s a sign that says no pets…and as much as I love dogs, I do agree with not being inside a food establishment
It's illegal to bring non service animals in there
There needs to be tighter restrictions against those human-sized dogs people parade around in public, that were clearly bought for defense
i can think of a whole lot of other things for defense that are a lot smaller and dont poop on everything that a person holds dear... or bark their fool heads off all the time for nothing and the owner is too stupid to DO SOMETHING ABT THE BARKING.. SHUT IT UP! MUZZLE on e bay $6. SIMPLE!!!!
How can she not be charged with gross negligence? This doesn’t sound right.
I have worked my dog nearly daily for most of his ten (10) years, on and off-lead. However, as trained as he is, around people I keep him next to me, and am highly vigilant whenever any unknown person wants to pet him. Meaning I STAND right beside him, keep a hand lightly on him, and am constantly saying “calm, calm”. Because you never never know what might set an animal off, especially in Lowes, PetSmart, etc.
Recently, he growled at my newest Godchild, a Toddler, walking toward him(and her sibs 11,5,7 are all over him). So no more babies for him, even though he has always been phenom w/babies, toddlers, and children (although I believe it might have more to do w/his waning eyesight, why take that chance).😢
Google Ivanka Trump gives Daddy Trump a lap dance 💃 😳.
Good on you, that is very reasonable. I am going to take some tips from your ent. Also I heard Can-C eye drops help dog's vision
You're the last remaining common sense dog owner. Bless you.
IDK, YOUR nervousness _may_ cause your dog to feel likewise.
You’re doing the right decision trust me, way too many ppl think they’re dogs are okay with ppl and just say I’m sorry , they’re never like this once they can’t control their pets, I have a dog/puppy rn and even tho we train her constantly she still uncertain when strangers are around doesn’t matter.
That pet was no comfort that's for sure.
Keep the pets at home folks.
You can stay at home loser!
"But I can't leave my Shnookums all alone! I'll bring her with me, she's the sweetest dog ever and wouldn't even harm a fly."
Shnookums bites someone.
"YOU PROVOKED HER!!!"
Maybe now Home Depot will stop letting fake Service K9's into their stores! I'm a Disabled Veteran of OIF and have an actual, real trained K9. I can't even have her with me when I go into Home Depot or Walmart anymore, as the fake Service Animals attack her. I hope the dog owner gets sued.
