Do you have a special application where standard Steel Cutters don't cut it? There are many instances where a more durable chainsaw chain may be in order.
In this video, we take a first look at Rapco Industries Carbide Chain. This stuff is pretty darn impressive if you ask me!

This is an excellent video for a beginner.
Working with the general public at a dealership has taught me 99% of everyday people and 75% of "professionals" in my area have ZERO idea when a chain is sharp or dull. AND refuse to believe any information regarding operation and maintenance of the machine.
Same with lawnmower blades. People around here could tear up an anvil and some of them would even complain if you handed them a gold brick.

The chain sharpness is very important

Good advice! It took me some time to figure out all the different chain pitches. I think using the right pitch chain really helps a chainsaw run smoother, too. If I am under 60cc, I prefer .325 semi-chisel pitch chain. Anything under 45cc would probably benefit from a 1/4" pitch chain. You sort of showed that with different nano pitch chains, too. When it comes to smooth/efficient cutting, a larger pitch chain is not always better. Even the most powerful chainsaw is useless with a dull chain. That's where UA-cam is wonderful for learning different ways to approach chain sharpening.

To all new chain saw users: educate yourself about chain saw kick backs, the zone of the bar tip that will cause it and the various condition it can occur. Buy yourself the required body and head protection .

👍👍 good info. Sharp chain….i have heard too many people tell me the saw was good for a while then started to lose power. They never seem to associate that dull chain with the power loss.

They are but I think stock vs stock the ms170 outruns it but I am sure the 310 will cut more wood on a fuel tank.

We started using 404 chain because of how durable it is. Cutting cookies for insta-tube-x-book 404 cuts a little slower than 3/8. In real world dirty cutting conditions, with multiple cuts, the 404 chain cuts quicker and lasts a lot longer. It does take a bit more power to run 404 vs 3/8 but not much. I tested full skip full chisel on a 261 and it did fine. I’m planning on doing some testing with a 241 to see how it does with 404. There is a difference between a 50cc pro saw vs 50cc homeowner saw when it comes to power and durability. A exhaust mod and opening up the intake helps a lot with power too. I’m not sure if I’d try 404 on a 251 or 250(yeah I probably would. lol).
If your knowledge and experience dictates you ask your dealer if your saw can handle 404, then please don’t try it and only use what the manufacturer says to use with your saw. If you’re experienced and have the knowledge (and money) then it might be worth it to experiment with 404 if you have nasty cutting conditions.

Good info, I think another reason people hate running a chainsaw is they are scared of/uncomfortable with them, I read an article by some big shot a few years ago and a chainsaw is considered the most dangerous tool you can walk in and buy off the shelf with no restrictions

You are 100% correct! While many saws are just truly underpowered, I believe it is wise to start with a small saw and learn the principles of cutting without the raw power and fatigue of a larger more powerful power head. Thank you for watching and contributing

@@oakiewoodsman Absolutely, I love big saws, I really enjoy using a big Stihl ms 661 and my O70 clone but I have cut wood to heat my home for many years with a little Poulan homeowner saw that taught me how to use one, the biggest key is like you said, a good sharp chain and the knowledge of how to use it. When cutting storm damage I would see lots of homeowners come out with their saws to start cleaning up and have trouble starting them and when they finally got them going, pretty much just burn the limbs off with a chain that would struggle to cut air

Carbide chains definitely have a customer base. Even people that do sharpen their chains regularly could benefit from having a Carbide chain on a saw they they don't necessarily use regularly just to use on those dirty logs

Don't get Saw Suppliers mixed up with Saw Again. Bought an ignition coil for my Makita 6100 on Saw Again cause their web sight says ships in one business day. Contacted them about it and they tried saying that it said like 5-7 days. Went back to the site and took a pic on my phone that I was right. They contacted my and tried saying I was wrong again and had proof. The lady on the other side started arguing with me so I hung up. She called back immediately and started arguing again, so I hung up again. She proceeded to call back a third time immediately yelling at me. So there was an email sent to corporate about the situation and I got my shipping back. Poor customer service and ships when they get called out on their mistakes.
