I loved how I could see certain archetypes carried over from Twisted Metal. Joe Skullington being this game's Mr. Grimm and the French team being Mr. Slam
If you’re ever looking to try out another Twisted Metal-esque game for the PS1, try out World Destruction League: Thunder Tanks. It also came out on the PS2 but the PS1 version is the one I played the most as a kid and gave me the most Twisted Metal vibes. If I wasn’t playing Twisted Metal, I was playing Thunder Tanks lol. It is literally just Twisted Metal but instead of controlling cars you are controlling tanks. I think it was made by the same people who made the BattleTanx games, so they have a similar feel.
Man Chat was really not helping VNG so I will put some advice here to help you next time you play. Slow Mo - These are really slow moving homing rockets that do massive damage. The trick being that if you are careless and/or in particularly speedy vehicle you will run into it and shoot yourself (as you did with Joe Skullion). Shielding - Shielding is incredibly important to use but not just because it reduces the damage you take it will actually REFLECT projectiles that are shot at you meaning that Slow Mo can be reflected at another vehicle. Turbo - Yeah there is turbo in this game, double tap the accelerate button to go faster (though if I'm to understand correctly you were using a stick to drive instead of a button, iirc the button is square) Shaker - Probably the most important weapon in the game. They do very little damage on their own but if they hit they make the opponent lose control of their vehicle for a short time meaning you can line up a combo, but the more important aspect of these weapons is that they force the target to drop a pod (which can turn into multiple, or even a kill if you combo correctly) Freeze - The hidden moves are input with R2 held and then 3 directions input: for example Stun Blast is Right, Left, Up. I don't remember these moves being super important when I played as a kid though, not like they were in twisted metal. Chat was doing you absolutely no favours with Joe as your first pick. While he's not bad (he's actually quite good) he is very punishing for new players because it's a requirement to actually use shield properly while playing him. Lockjaw isn't a bad choice either but if you're playing him you also really need to shield properly because you are going to take a massive amount of damage trying to use your special because as you noticed it tracks for quite a while and you are committed to it completely when you use it so if they throw out a slow mo as you come in for them you're gonna be in for a rough time. Also having them stuck in your mouth means you're going to have twice as many AI shooting at you because they are shooting at you and the guy in your mouth. The French are a decent but aren't like Slam in 1 major way, they are quite squishy. Not as squishy as Joe but certainly their health can disappear real fast if you're not shielding properly. If I were to recommend a good beginner vehicle it's gonna be Captain Grimm in 1st by a long shot. His special is good, he's bulky, but he's also not too slow. Last few pointers if you actually want to complete the game: Worry about getting the pods over everything else. The pods are shown above your health with each one being different colour. As chat noted each one gives you a different buff. IIRC the green one is the shield one and that one is the most important. However the most important thing to keep in mind if you actually want to complete the game is that you don't need to kill everyone (and you probably shouldn't if you want to conserve lives) you just need to collect all 5 pods and get in the portal. If you have any questions ask them and I will see if my old man brain can remember the answer from back when I was a kid. I loved this game as a kid even though it was hard as shit and I'm glad to see someone else is enjoying it too.
Joe skullion looks just like old dude from contra force on Nintendo. The dude with the hat. I think his name was Sikes, but I haven't played it in a while
@@sweetpepino1907 Its not bad. Kinda like every other contra/2d scroller but it had an assist system and you could switch between the 4 characters at any time. It was nice just not perfect
22:00 one of the themes from Jet Moto 2, another game SingleTrac has made, a racing game. 989 also got the rights for that to make Jet Moto 3. Not many people know Jet Moto, its really fun tho
