Preserved 80 Class Transfer to the Downpatrick & County Down Railway. 12/5/18 & 13/5/18

- During the weekend of Saturday 12th May & Sunday 13th May 2018 Preserved 80 Class 2 Car Sets 90 + 752 & Retro Liveried 69 + 749 were transferred from York Road Depot in Belfast to their new home at the Downpatrick & County Down Railway.
During the 1st part of the video we see 90 & 752 being transferred on the 12/5/18.
Then in the 2nd part of the video we see Retro Liveried 69 & 749 being transferred.
As well as the road transfers we also see G617 Shunting the DCDR's new arrivals on Sunday morning & afternoon.

A most excellent historic video of the historic railcars to a new home & future! I must commend all who carried out the on & offloading of the railcars! The Deutz shunter & driver did their bit too!

Probably the last time they were on the back of a truck was when they were delivered new.
The last time they were on a loader was when they were transferred back from England after being refurbished

Not sure if this comment will be seen or not due to the video age, but as someone who isnt familiar to NIR, I do wonder why it wasn't just hauled with a freight loco via rail to its new destination? Was it cheaper? Or are the two places not physically connected via rail? Or perhaps it wasn't easy to get a space between services to transfer it?
The line that ran between Belfast & Downpatrick closed in 1950 unfortunately. The Downpatrick & County Down Railway runs on a small section of the original line and it is the only standard gauge (5 foot 3 inches) heritage railway on the whole island of ireland. Sadly Northern Ireland lost a large number of it's railways around the 50s. Today we only have a handful of lines. Belfast to Newry (Then onwards across the boarder into the Republic of Ireland) Belfast to Bangor , Belfast to Larne , Belfast to Londonderry & Coleraine to Portrush in total the railway network in Northern Ireland only consists of over 200 miles of track.

Why was it not moved by a local firm??
I believe local firms did not have trailers that could accommodate the coaches so Raid Freight were used and they done a fantastic job.
