FYI for anyone watching- you don’t need any evidence to report an incident to the police, or to file a report really. And it’s a stupid idea not to in a situation like this- if the person was to break in at a later date there is a record of you reporting them, and that helps. If they break into a neighborhood home and hurt someone, you’re a witness, and that report proves that you saw the person when you say you did prior to knowing there was a crime, making you more legitimate as a witness.
In any case, in real life, you can easily report this kind of stuff.
(Side note- It’s not the same thing as snitching on kids smoking pot in the park, your home safety is a whole different ballgame.)
But I really wanna snitch on those kids doing the mariwana.

I agree you don’t need evidence to file a report but if you got evidence, that makes it likely for the police to show up quicker and more cautious/concerned about your situation.

In fairness, the dude in the story wasn’t being hesitant because he didn’t think he could report it without evidence, he just figured they wouldn’t take it seriously. And I imagine that would be the case a lot of the time

I don’t know how people can be disappointed in that ending. It leaves room for you to interpret it how you like.
For me he is obviously trapped in the basement in his dreams, he still lives a life away from the house, but all his dreams are in that basement, with others that have found themselves in the same situation.
As for the creature, perhaps it was trying to help him all along. It knows about the things in the basement so it try’s to scare people away before it’s too late. It was injured by something to be bleeding, it is the only thing keeping whatever is causing the horror in the basement, in the basement.

That actually makes sense and honestly makes me feel better, I was like "The dude made the smartest decision I've ever heard in any creepypasta: He got the heck out of there despite not knowing what was going on, he wanted to live out his years with his wife instead of being a victem to whatever horrors were in the basement"

Like really even in some of the good ones the police dosent help mostly because people seem to not realize that some investigations can go on for decades without any real or mayor progress, it can be frustrating sometimes but at least here the police ACTUALLY does the best they can, its made better since the writer dosent imply that it all they did
I agree I love it when a Police team actually tries stuff and it fails over there being no police involvement (Unless it's something like the story is from the view of a child and they didn't call the police)

The ending felt rushed, like he didn't know how to end it. Bad enough when that happens with regular creepypasta but a MAJOR disappointment on a series. Also, what happened to their son?

I really liked the story until the weird ending. I was all for this couple having a happy ending and escaping, but there's too much that just isn't addressed. The police covering everything up, the tall man, the voices in the basement (I assume they're the voices of people who lived in the house before but who knows?), and the game cameras. But it did a very good job of building tension throughout, and I really bought into the relationship between the couple.

Part of it being unresolved showed the true fear going on
It’s kind of like the movie the thing, the less you know about the monster, the more terrifying it is
I personally think that a shadow of everyone who lived in that house gets created each time the homeowner and family moves out. That OP and his wife actually did leave and move on to build a new life together but their fear and trauma manifested selves were not so lucky. The second OP said “Last night I woke up in the basement-“ him and his wife had completely expelled their trauma 100% and had moved on 400+ miles away, but the leftovers had nowhere else to be other than the place where they were first made….. In that creepy house they were made to fear. It’s just my interpretation. A type of spirit in middle-eastern folklore I’ve heard about are Daevas and this story reminds me of those.

I gotta to say ... I just LOVVVVVEEEE the way you read. The others seem to use some online reader or smthg cuz their sentences always sound continual, the emotions don't match the stories, it's refreshing get hear that some ppl do still talk with punctuation and all that, lol.

5 years later and this is still one of my favorite stories, I would absolutely love to hear a version of this from the police's perspective

He does these recordings in one continuous take, without edits. If he doesn't feel a specific line's delivery, he re-does it. You're not crazy.

@@Miss_Eldritch What he meant to say is MCP records without stoping, and then comes in after and removes the parts he doesn't like. During this recording he repated a line he didn't like and forgot to cut it out of the final product.

Sometimes these stories frustrate me when they don't tell what was going on. I get the whole "it wouldn't be as scary/interesting/dramatic/etc as you imagined it to be" trope, but I feel that too many creepy pastas rely to heavily on that.
it's kinda neat that there's some outtakes not edited out, like I can hear him finding different ways to read the lines
