I couldn’t agree more! I’ve been watching nursery organization videos and can’t believe how much stuff people buy. Like who needs 15 blankets, 10 swaddles, 50 girl bows, etc. Its really not necessary if you can just wash a few between using. I also think a lot of it has to do with impressing other people with what you have or a new outfit for the baby everyday.
Our pediatrician and hospital said to never use a rectal thermometer because it can be dangerous if accidentally used incorrectly. It can cause infection and damage to the rectum. We got a thermometer that can go in his ear or on his forehead. It’s pretty accurate! (Not trying to say anyone is wrong for using a rectal one, just wanted to raise awareness. Me, 19 not pregnant, never been in a relationship but still loving all of your videos. I’ve been watching for YEARS I remember you still living in your parents house! Thanks for being my go to UA-camr Alex!
Yes please to the essentials! It’s so hard to even find a place to start as far as registry and collecting things for baby goes, especially with a million ads for things that look cool and seeing influencers posting so much expensive things for baby.
If you want to warm up your bottle you can also use a crockpot! Put a little water in there and turn heat to low (or high in the morning for a quicker warming) and it can go on all day! You change the water every day in the crockpot and it heats up the bottles really nicely!

I do reccomend leaving at least one on there cause it depends on the baby. My daughter LOVES her teethers and chewing on things in general so having something shes supposed to chew on is comforting to me. But its completely up to your baby whether they use it or not.
a 'P grabber' (ages 4 months +) or Chewy tube (age 1 +) are great for encouraging chewing. The more chewing on the back teeth the better the jaw development. Little jaws are so malleable before the age of 5/6, set them up for nice spacing rather than crowding and you might save on orthodontics.
I gave birth in September, and I was looking for a bassinet and I heard so much about the Snoo. It was so recommended and I was on the verge of buying it but for some reason I kept looking for other bassinets that maybe had the same functions and I found that 4moms came out with the Mamaroo bassinet it’s the same as the seat and practically the same as the Snoo and it came out in Canada in August and without thinking twice I got it and it’s around 500$ which is way cheaper than the Snoo that retails here in Canada for 1800$. My baby loves it! So just wanted to recommend this as an alternative to all the mamas that are looking into a bassinet.
Alex you honestly have the cutest baby ever, I’m so happy for you! I looveee how you and Dan coparent, you are both so involved and supportive of each other, it’s so nice to watch
I would like to point out that receiving blankets are SUPER useful when we aren't in a pandemic! we always had them on us when we were out and about and traveling as they are so versatile! they can be a blanket, used to shade your child, to lay them down on in public, as a nursing cover, and to clean spit-up..! we had our second child in July though and definitely have hardly used them at all
my son also hated the wraps/carriers. it ended up being a waste of like 300$ when I could've just bought second hand or even borrowed from friends who's kids were done with them! I borrowed a lot of different things before actually buying to see if he would like them or not.
Love you Alex! I’m from Montreal as well, and needed this video! It’s hard to find people from here who can give relevant an advice on products we actually have access to LOL you’re such a sweetheart! ♥️
I’m not a mom yet but am such a planner and would love to see your favourite baby items! Specially like stroller, carseat, etc. I love looking at baby stuff and can’t wait to be a mom some day! Loved this video! Hope that you and your family are well ❤️
So nice to hear an influencer be so realistic, when normally all I see is super cute pictures of super expensive and impractical things that I will never own!
I have a 3 year old, 2 year old and I’m pregnant with my 3rd baby. I agree with all of this EXCEPT I learned the wraps/ baby carriers become very essential once you have more than 1 baby 😂😂💖💖💖 loved the video!
So glad you made this video!! I’m 7 weeks away from having baby number 4 and with each baby I learned of more and more items you do NOT need. I see so many first time mums wasting money on items babies either will not like, or they will not end up using
Love this!! Aspyn ovard also has great ideas when it comes to games to play with your baby. I think she gets it from Pinterest too!! Like a box with water and straws in it.. so simple but so useful!
Every baby is definitely different! My son loved the pacifier but my daughter never took to it. My son hated being in a wrap around carrier but my daughter loves it 🤷🏻♀️
Same! My daughter loved pacifiers, being swaddled but hated baby carrier. My son didn't want pacifiers, liked a sleeping sack instead of swaddling and loved the baby carrier😄.
I also was given the tip to use the cheap flannel packs of receiving blankets as burp rags and to throw down on furniture for changes wherever you are.
I love this! There are so many products out there that you don't really need. My baby does well in a carrier though, the Boppy comfyfit carrier. I agree on holding off on too many teether toys until you actually need it. I have never used a diaper pail! I have a tiny metal trash can that gets full after a day or two and I just empty it.
Can you make a video on what to wear in really cold weather/snow. I’m moving to Chicago and I have no idea what to wear or what snow boots to buy!! Please!!!
@@mariaecheverri379 I too would love to see this video idea but in case she doesn’t..... I feel qualified as a Minnesotan to give my opinion. 1. For legit snow boots I recommend sorel get waterproof ones 2. For cute boots it doesn’t really matter but generally I try to get boots that are smooth leather or rubber outside so they don’t soak up a bunch of slush. 3. Wool socks for if it’s really cold but you only really need this if you are outside a long time 4. Multiple coats: long down filled coat, short down coat, wool coat or trench for looking nicer, and even some light weight puffer jackets. That being said I am a real Minnesotan and will go somewhere with no jacket at all in the middle of a storm 5. For basic outfits just sweaters and jeans is perfect with some snazzy boots (I love faux croc print leather) and then spice it with jewelry 😁
I love my diaper bag! It is a backpack but with a changing mat and a isolated pouch for the bottle. I had 6 months before the pandemic and I used it every day!
Sorry for commenting, But you don’t need much more than a baby born in the winter, unless you live in a normally freezing cold state during the winter. When babies are first born, they can’t regulate their temperature properly, so you will still want some long sleeve outfits for about the first few weeks-first month or so. If you’re someone who likes to be outside and plans to have the baby outside a ton, maybe an outdoor mat/towel, or a place to put them. Fisher Price has the little circle dome with the hood that goes over it, that’s a lifesaver for me and we live in FL. A hat and sunglassesif you like to walk with baby outside. Some shorter sleeve outfits, but you can probably get away with 3-6 months at max if you get cold falls and winters. Honestly, living somewhere it’s consistently in the 80s/90s, we don’t use a lot extra compared to having a baby in the winter. Hope that helps some. Sunblock too. But you really won’t need much for the first summer unless you pretty much live outside with the baby.
Clothes are my biggest regret. Soooo many outfits she never wore because we found footie pjs (especially in the winter) just worked best for us. Or plain white onsies for the summer time
Also highly recommend a diaper genie. They're like 30 bucks and WELL WORTH the money. We started out with a regular trash can and our house smelled like baby poop constantly... with the diaper genie there is no smell until you open it to put one in.
@Lindsey Bailes I use them on the go but I try to take them to the grocery store for the recycling purposes cause I feel like that's a lot of plastic to go into the landfills. Im.not a huge activist or anything lol but I would like to try to reduce my plastic output for my daughters future's sake... know what I mean? (Not bashing you in any way, just giving my preference and reasoning behind it) I feel like even tho the diaper genie uses plastic bags to contain dirty diapers, it's less plastic than if I were to bag them individually
@Lindsey Bailes omg that's awesome!!! My name will hopefully be changing within the year! Lol as long as covid decides to gtfo lol I was supposed to become a Guilfoy last year but covid had other plans lol
It's great to finally see someone with the real baby essentials and not influencer essentials. Babies don't need much. Tip: for sterilization u can just use a pot with boiling water.
It surprises me that people don't think to look for certain things second hand like expensive carriers, bassinets, nursery furniture, clothes etc. Baby items and gear are only used for a short time and there is an over abundance of gently used second hand items almost anything you can want. I bought almost everything second hand.
Yup!! We got everything second hand except for his monitor, car seat, and diaper bag. The furniture we got was 250 and retail value it was 3k cause it’s from France.
Looove this video because everything is so true! I had my baby right after you and I was just like yes yes yes to everything you’re saying. Specially the diaper bag, I feel for the trap and switched over to a backpack recently! Xo
Hi, thanks for this video! However, I think you do need some sort of soft slip on baby shoes in case you carry your baby in a wrap/carrier and it is cold outside. I kind of regret not having them at the moment. And about wraps - my son hated being put in a wrap, but it turns out the babies usually complain about other things than the wrapping itself. Eg. Sitting in a wet diaper or the act of putting them inside the wrap can be uncomfortable, just like putting on clothes. I ended up putting him inside the wrap while asleep for a few weeks, now he is 4 months and totally OK with it, provided the diaper is dry :D also, breastfeeding while in a wrap soothes. And Babybjorn carrier is actually not a very good carrier - babies in a carrier should always have their but lower than their knees. Otherwise they are literally hanging on their genitalia, and their hips are not in a healthy position ;) So no wonder if he complains. Also, the back support should not be padded - back of the baby should form a nice C shape, always facing the carrying person. I am sure you could rent and try come other brand, but I recommend doing some research first :D But as you said, every baby and family are different. Mine is not a fan of a pram and currently latches properly only while in a wrap/carrier.. so it is life saving for me, but you may be doing just as well without it ;)
My daughter is 4 months now and I only put her in cute clothes for her monthly pictures and occasionally for leaving the house for appointments and stuff. She wears sleepers pretty much any other time.
Agree about the newborn clothes! I had like 5 onesies, with a few pairs of paints, and then like 6 pajamas. I got all of those thrifted or from TJ Maxx so they were cheaper. My baby just wore all the same clothes for the first few weeks before he grew out of newborn size.
Yesss!! So many good things on this list I agree with. Especially the newborn clothes, I had so many and my baby was in 0-3 and 3 months right when she was born 😅
I'm a mom expecting baby #2 and like watching these videos to see what's new. I think the most important thing you said is that your baby might like or not like this. It's so true! I got so much stuff at my baby shower that I thought I would use and wish I had opened only 1 and waited on the rest, or I could have returned a bunch of stuff. Swaddles were a huge waste of money for us.
I'm a mom of 2 and agree with 99% of this! Each baby is so different, my first loved pacifiers and my second never took one, my first loved being wrapped and my second didn't like being in a baby carrier till around 7 months.
I wouldn't recommend bottle warmers because when you are out in public, or in a crunch and can't warm up the bottle.. some babies won't want it and that can be trouble. Just a heads up.
Another tip regarding diaper pails. Get doggie poop bags and tie up your dirty diapers inside one and toss in your regular trash can. They will lock in the smell just as well until you take your regular trash out.
Braun makes a great ear Thermometer. Don't panic if your baby doesn't want a pacifier. Their tongue is supposed to be up on the hard palate (roof of mouth) and that stimulates the nerves in the skin/gum which sends happy soothing signals to the brain.
So I used my bassinet that I used as a baby for my daughter. BUT if I had to buy one that would’ve been my regret. We actually bought a mini crib off Amazon because she got too tall for her bassinet around 4 months old and I wasn’t ready to let her sleep in her room (I have pretty bad PPD/PPA). For the mini crib, mattress, and sheets we spent $150 vs bassinets are normally $200ish. And she uses the mini crib still at 10 months old at my moms house since it doesn’t take up a lot of room.
Yes new born clothes was a must srsly and all we did was pyjamas where our fav only started putting my daughter in outfits now at around 2 months I started dressing her
Thank you for this video. I just want to note that I enjoyed using this rocker because it was lightweight so I can transfer it from room to room, I used all a lot when I was in the shower I would put her there and I would know she would be safe as I showered. However every moment every situation is different, it is expensive and so maybe try to find it on Facebook marketplace
I HIGHLY recommend a bottle warmer whether you're trying to save money or not.... cause I premake all my bottles and they keep for 24 hours (if you're using formula, 24 if its breast milk. I use half formula and bm) then I can just pull one out and it warms in a minute and a half instead of all the prep of warming it in a pot
This is what i am thinking especially for the night feedings. I have a mini fridge next to my bed with 4 bottles all ready to go . And my bottle warmer holds 2 bottles at a time and keeps it warm. So basically i just rotate the bottles throughout the night. Which bottle warmer do you use?
@@KrissyBeeTv oh that's awesome!!! We have the munchkin one and it isnt great but it does the job (usually... lol sometimes it doesnt get hot and you have to like descale it and clean it real good) which one do you have cause that one sounds awesome!?!?! lol
@@savannahellis8888 papablic has a good one i heard. They are sending me one in 2 weeks to review. The one i have is the bololo from amazon. I have twins so i looked for a twin bottle warmer and that one came up with the most reviews. And i like that it can be used for sterilizer more than 1 item at a time. So thats why i choice that over a single warmer. And the reservation function is good too
@@KrissyBeeTv yeah that's awesome and god help you with twins!!!! lol I know my one 8 month old is crazy enough, two would have me pulling my hair out!!!
Lots of blankets are good if you have a spitty up baby or you leak a lot of milk. Also, the forehead thermometers are awesome once they’re older/toddlers and won’t stay still to their temperature or hate the feeling of the thermometer. Totally agree about pretty much everything else though-also had a bottler warmer and my Mom and husband would always just warm the milk in a mug of hot water anyways

I am sure you could rent and try come other brand, but I recommend doing some research first :D
But as you said, every baby and family are different.
Great Video, love the advice on the learning and sensory videos! thank you
My baby LOVES wraps, teethers, and his pacifier. It's funny how babies are so different!
I wish there was a video on pack n plays
I regret not shopping second hand in the beginning since they grow out of things so fast
My a FTM. I have resisted all the new clothes unless there is a super sale going on. Also no more than $1 per item of clothing mentality.
Yesss!! So many good things on this list I agree with. Especially the newborn clothes, I had so many and my baby was in 0-3 and 3 months right when she was born 😅
Got the fawn design diaper bag what a waste of money 🤦♀️....
I gifted it to my sister. It’s so cute though. Baby bags are just not chic. So it depends on your overall style.
This is SO helpful. Thank you thank you thank you!❤️
When you make a video of the baby must haves, can you link the stuff or link the brand?
I'm a mom expecting baby #2 and like watching these videos to see what's new. I think the most important thing you said is that your baby might like or not like this. It's so true! I got so much stuff at my baby shower that I thought I would use and wish I had opened only 1 and waited on the rest, or I could have returned a bunch of stuff. Swaddles were a huge waste of money for us.
bottles can be boiled on the stove to sterilise as well if your trying to save money and don't have a dishwasher
Praying that everyone falls asleep quickly and has a peaceful sleep. Hope you all wake up happy and well rested 😘😘😘😘
I'm a mom of 2 and agree with 99% of this! Each baby is so different, my first loved pacifiers and my second never took one, my first loved being wrapped and my second didn't like being in a baby carrier till around 7 months.
Preaaaaach about the swaddle blankets!!!!!
Expecting twins and I am HERE for this content 🙌🏼🙌🏼
Omg pacifier means chupete (spanish)!!! Soooo different meaning!!!
I wouldn't recommend bottle warmers because when you are out in public, or in a crunch and can't warm up the bottle.. some babies won't want it and that can be trouble. Just a heads up.
Yes would love a home alone baby essentials video 🤍
Another tip regarding diaper pails. Get doggie poop bags and tie up your dirty diapers inside one and toss in your regular trash can. They will lock in the smell just as well until you take your regular trash out.
I have a 2 month old and this video is spot on!
omg WHAT I have the first item on my registry and I was so excited about it 😂
Braun makes a great ear Thermometer.
Don't panic if your baby doesn't want a pacifier. Their tongue is supposed to be up on the hard palate (roof of mouth) and that stimulates the nerves in the skin/gum which sends happy soothing signals to the brain.
Yeees, please make the essentials video!! ☺️☺️
when you called the pacifier a "suce" I was like yessssss another canadian! this was great and informative, thank you
So I used my bassinet that I used as a baby for my daughter.
Yes new born clothes was a must srsly and all we did was pyjamas where our fav only started putting my daughter in outfits now at around 2 months I started dressing her
Can we get that newborn essentials video ASAP 😂 I am due in 3 months and would love to get some input!
Thanks for this Video! You are the most realistic one out there! I'm due this week and I'm happy that I didn't buy anything of your regret list:)
This is so helpful ❤️
Thank you for this video. I just want to note that I enjoyed using this rocker because it was lightweight so I can transfer it from room to room, I used all a lot when I was in the shower I would put her there and I would know she would be safe as I showered. However every moment every situation is different, it is expensive and so maybe try to find it on Facebook marketplace
Where is your coin necklace from?? So cute!
Yess!! Please do an essentials video
In your next video with the essentials, could you please insert pictures of the thing you are talking about? As English is not my first language i had a bit of trouble understanding what kind of item you were talking about as some points. Other than that, great video!
Baby essential video!!
This was super helpful!
