Creating a Portrait with a Hot Metal Tool | Realistic Wood Burning Art
Вставка
- Опубліковано 16 жов 2024
- This fast-motion video shows a pyrography portrait by Minisa Robinson. It was woodburned by hand with the Walnut Hollow Creative Versa-Tool wood-burner and the shading point. A touch of white colored pencil was added after the wood burning was finished for extra highlights. This portrait took me about 11 hours to woodburn and it is on an 8x10 inch piece of basswood.
The blue glove shown is a simple gardening glove from my hardware store. It helps protect my hand against accidental burns from creating pyrography and offers a low level of heat protection.
The gray bag that I rest my hand on is originally designed to provide wrist support while working at a computer. It is also helpful for supporting my wrist while woodburning.
The purple pad is a flexible sander to "erase" my guidelines and make them lighter before woodburning the lighter contours of the face.
Pyrography is also known as woodburning and uses a hot metal tool to burn onto a piece of wood, much like drawing with a pencil. I have been creating realistic pyrography since 2009 and mainly use the Walnut Hollow Creative Versa-Tool for my pyrography.

They must either be blind or jealous!!!
Wow! I'm speechless...My father did some wood burning but nothing compare to this. I didn't think someone could create something so beautiful and detailed with a such a tool. You are a true artist...

Wow! It looks better than the photograph. You are amazingly awesome. I enjoy watching you magically bring your art to life.
I have the same wood burner! but I swear mine could never get so hot as to burn those huge black areas evenly! WOW! Idk how you did it!!
That's one of the most stunning examples of pyrography I've ever seen, I'll never be that good but it has really inspired me to keep working at it. Thanks so much for sharing this with us ♡

Goodmorning from Greece!!!
+dorina prendi Thank you :) I use the Walnut Hollow Creative Versa-Tool. It's a simple burning kit for about $30 USD. If you choose to get one, I believe you'll need a voltage adapter also because it's designed for use in the United States. I hope his helps and have a great day.
Simply fantastic!
I have read many many comments where others have asked you what kind of wood you use for a portrait, but you haven't answered the question. Why? Can you advise what kind of wood that is best for doing portraits please. You are a very talented artist, I love your work. Thank you for sharing.
+LizzieJo83 I apologize for not responding to the recent comments. I usually check this page on my phone and it showed that no one was commenting on the video. I'll keep a better eye on things with my computer from now on. I use and prefer basswood to work on.
Thant's ok, I understand. I would much rather be doing what your doing than worrying with checking the computer all the time for messages. Thank you for answering me. I absolutely am an admirer of yours. You are very good. I hope someday I can even to begin to be as good as you are. Please keep sharing when you can.
I absolutely LOVE your work! and with the Versa-Tool! I always thought i needed to "upgrade".... question if i may, did you do anything to the shading tip like sanding it down or anything? to make this come out very smooth looking? and the "shading" is really tons of tiny tiny lines, is that right? i'm in the process of practicing more and more and you are a wonderful influence! Thank you for your video
Have you ever thought about being a portrait tattoo artist? you definitely have the artistic skill. Amazing job!

Ok this video just got you a proud new subscriber that was amazing I just started wood burning
Thanks so much! :)
If you don't mind me asking how long have you been burning? The picture you had set up to the left had all of your shadow spots, and face lines makes me believe that you have had some form of other type of art (drawing, painting) I was just wondering. By the way words can't say what it takes to do work like that very aweing. Well done, and keep it up.
+Classic Work Greetings :) I've been burning for about 6 years, just in my spare time. I'm a self-taught artist, but I've been experimenting with all types of art media my entire life. My father is a professional oil artist so I grew up around art as well. Thank you very much. :)
+Minisa Pyrography Very nice. I've been burning for about 4 years, but have never done anything close to that. If you ever need help promoting your channel let me know. You have a very good eye for filming, and your a good teacher. I know I'm a complete stranger, and you can't trust anyone on youtube, but just trying to help. Anyways thanks again, and keep it up.
+Classic Work hey classic you should start a group on Facebook for people interested in burning. My uncle has joined a group for turning wooden bowls the group runs a tight ship nobody can join unless you turn. You can start something similar to that i would join for sure I'm a beginner at burning would help out a lot.
+Kyle Robertson That sounds like a good idea I haven't thought of that. I'll send you a link if I get it going. Need a good name.
+Classic Work would love to join that fb too please. just starting with my wood burner. would like to learn more tips. thanks, dee
