And just wanna add for Halal stuff, Malaysia is world-renowned as a halal hub. It also has its own body just for Halal certification, called JAKIM, with their halal logo being one of the most trusted and recognised around the world. It's also the world's first halal certification body, starting operations since the 60s.
So their presence in malaysia is quite ubiquitous, from canned goods to regular snacks, to meat and fresh produce and even cat food. They also issue halal certificates to restaurants and chain stores, and even for cosmetics.
Since it's everywhere in malaysia, most consumers often look for the halal logo from jakim first on the packets of product before buying. To the extent that some people won't even enter a restaurant that is muslim-friendly but has no halal cert. I also have some non-muslim friends who purposefully don't consume anything non-halal since they know that those with halal logo are properly vetted in terms of sanitation and quality.
Because of that, foreign brands looking to enter the malaysian market (and in extension, the halal market) often seek to acquire the halal cert to expand their business. This then creates a positive cycle where the halal logo can be seen almost anywhere.

Nice video here. But before you call something cheap, you need to understand that although 1GBP = RM5.7~, you should think of the prices as 1GBP=RM1. Like the sushi platter that you were surprised to be around 9 quid, imagine paying 50 quid for the platter. That’s how expensive it is for us Malaysians. Due to our weak currency, some imported products cost a ton due to direct conversion. Lurpak butter costs around 3-4 quid in the UK, but when imported to Malaysia it comes RM17. So imagine paying 17 quid just for butter. It’s not that cheap anymore. But as a tourist, it is definitely cheap. But as a citizen, it is hellish. But anyways, have fun in Malaysia.

If assuming 1 Gbp = rm1, every thing in Malaysia would be very expensive ,mate🤔🤔. Wrong conversion rate. The better conversion is to use is to compare Food at McDonald in UK and Malaysia. IF 10 gbp meal is equal rm30, than the ratio would be 1GBP= RM3. This is called the McDonald conversion.😂😂

Hi guys, just wanted to provide supplemental information regarding the halal situation in Malaysia.
Muslim friendly doesn't necessarily mean that its non-halal, it varies by stalls/restaurants and supermarkets as well. The halal certification by the government of Malaysia is a rigorous certificate to obtain, even by Muslim vendors, so having the certification gives you 100% confidence that the respective store is halal in all aspects. However, this doesn't mean that stalls/restaurants without the certification is non-halal. Ask if you're in doubt. Just because it has Chinese writing doesn't necessarily mean it's non-halal.
Hope you guys have a great day, and I hope this information can help those who are interested in going to Malaysia one day!
