    That's 1951, only 5 years after WW11, and what a Beautiful piece of engineering, and a quick bike for its day.

    It's a very good looking bike, and puts most modern bikes to shame.

    I like the way he kept the revs. down ensuring that the oil would get round properly...Don't ask me how I know.

      hhoward14 The oil was returning fine. Usually I maintain revs at 3000 at startup to reduce cam wear, but, this engine had been rebuilt some 60 years ago and was an unknown quantity. The client didn't get it looked at so I was balancing maintaining oil pressure and revving an engine which hadn't been run for so long. I'll add the the cambox had been opened-up and lubricated prior to starting it up. Cheers.

      That's pretty much what I thought, well done.

      hhoward14 Cheers. It was difficult knowing what to do really - usually you start a manx and rev it fairly at fairly high revs which is supposed to reduce cam lobe wear. I'm always learning!

    I had a Manx 500 years ago. I sold it for a small fortune in '87 and regret it

    It was raced in South Africa into the mid50s, then it was no longer Competitive against the short stroke Norton Manx.

    It seems a little wrong not to bump start it but then I suppose with the value one can't risk it.

    please its a MANX Norton ,,, not a Norton Manx,,,,that's as bad as saying a Robin Reliant or fiesta ford .. go sit on the naughty step

      conan howard. Yes it your correct. My son is on his dads Manx Norton 😊

    • @pickleboat45
      @pickleboat45 6 років тому +2

      Wrong! It's a Norton Manx. I have a 1963 Norton Manx 30M (500cc) which I've had for 40 years. I have documentation of my bike including build schedule, parts lists, and correspondence from the Norton factory and it's always listed as a Norton Manx. You don't know what you're talking about.

    • @andrewfarrer2460
      @andrewfarrer2460 6 років тому +2

      Norton Manx .. Is the correct name!
      40M = 350cc, 30M = 500cc.

      @Robert Ryerson How one calls a bike is up to the individual. A Dominator is full Norton Dominator. Manx is full Norton Manx. Never heard say Dominator Norton. Just Dominator or lovingly Domi. So why Manx Norton?
      It is also Norton Electra and Norton ES 2. Excelsior Manxman. Triumph Daytona. Ferrari Daytona. Ferrari Dino. Fiat Dino.

      @@dirkmul4802 It doesn't matter what pedantics think, it is/was always called a Manx Norton by anyone that was born before the 1960s
