  • In this video we see a Manx Norton starting up on electric race rollers. The engine sound of these bikes with the megaphone exhausts is just something else. This video was shot at the International Classic MotorCycle Show at Stafford on 8 July 2021.

    Brilliant bloody bikes
All the old 40’s 50’s and 60’s British Bikes take some beating
My Dad had a Matchless 1000 that was a beast, of course there is the AjS porcupine and Vincent Black Shadow. All beautiful sounds that could wake the dead 💀

For those not familiar with high comp singles, note that they had to push the bike back against compression. Not to stall it when trying to start it. Applies both to push start and roller start.

Sounds like my Ducati hillclimb machine I raced back in high school.
(That was in the late 60's)

No decomp lever I take it.

No. Decomp lever only useful on kickstart bikes. To get piston just after TDC.

A properly set up Manx is fairly easy to start. Back then race starts was always with dead engine. Mine needs 4 strides before letting clutch go.
