    I'm the exception to most people as I'm a complete beginner to audio synthesis and music production just looking at hardware/software capabilities and between digital/analog this is one of the better innovations for creativity that has been done in all of music. It just makes sense (not talking down the technical feats at all as there is a lot that goes into this kind of routing) to be able to make modular changes in this manner. Before I discovered this invention, I had the mind's idea of a plugboard operator when phones had to be routed, only it's a digital "brain" working for you. That led me to the discovery of patch bays but they were still severely limited in terms of automation and the physical capabilities of manually manipulating analog sound. I found the Korg Volca FM and found a similar way of splitting their audio wavelength modifiers into various orders they called "Algorithms," so I knew somebody somewhere had to have created a proprietary solution for all analog hardware akin to something of a digital GUI and firmware. Can't wait to buy one someday!

    This is THE MOST INCREDIBLE piece of gear I have EVER seen!

  • @XChristianNoirX
    @XChristianNoirX 5 років тому +1

    This is one of the most awesome things ever devised!
    At first, I thought it was pricey, but considering how many problems this solves, it can cut costs in buying extra hardware and interfaces with too many unnecessary inputs. One could save 500-1k on an I interface with less inputs, not have to buy a monitor controller/switcher ($400+ for a decent one) to save outputs on the interface, etc etc etc, not to mention the obvious conveniences. Basically, if someone wanted a Lynx 16, they might now get away with a Lynx 8 if they're not doing husge, love seessions. Similarly, an Apollo x8 can then be downgraded to an x6, so on and so forth. You could use a regular patch bay, but that is cumbersome when you want to just create.
    I'd hate to add a feature request for something so great, but here it is to make it even more badass:
    For an update to the software, I'd add the ability to add notes and pictures, to help remember recall of hardware settings. So, basically at least a simple text note and an image gallery you can drop images to for each preset, or a more complex note where you can put text and images into the same note (almost how Evernote would work on your phone).
    For the images, a user can then take photos of their hardware and crop them on their phone, transfer to the computer, and then drag and drop them into the software.
    This system is already perfect it seems, but a way to help users recall their hardware info would be even more amazing.
    Oh yeah.. A way to back-up and export the notes would be cool too. Who knows.. Maybe even Evernote (or other cross-platform note system) integration.. might be going a bit too far, but since I'm on a roll lol 😂.. Who knows.. Maybe Evernote (or other) would even help you do this, as they might then start integrating Evernote into other systems. Whatever the case, with something like Evernote, a user could do all the notes and pics on their phone and save them to the cloud, without having to do much transferring back and forth to the computer.

    I think I may have misunderstood something when this was announced: Is it possible to sum multiple channels to, say, one buss compressor in this unit?

    • @FlockAudio
      @FlockAudio  6 років тому +1

      Hi Angelo, Thanks for contacting us at Flock Audio! To answer your question PATCH is not a summing unit. You can take any 1 audio source signal and "Mult" it to all other 31 available outputs if you choose. PATCH is a routing system for analog audio, it does not perform channel summing.

    • @angeloboltinimusic
      @angeloboltinimusic 6 років тому +1

      Thanks for your reply! I was hoping for the unit to do a Brauer-style multi-buss approach, where I can send any channel to any buss, reverb, effect, etc.. Is this possibly doable in a software product or should I look elsewhere altogether?

    • @dftweedie3021
      @dftweedie3021 6 років тому

      But! If you have a summing box like the Dangerous for and example, I think you could bus from your DAW input thru your interface into the Patch System, process those stems differentially, then have multiple outputs from the Patch System into your summing mixer; then take the summing mixer's output back into the Patch System for processing your master bus.

    • @dftweedie3021
      @dftweedie3021 6 років тому

      I probably shouldn't interject, but ... If you have an interface with multiple outputs, just use multiple buses/ auxes in your DAW routed to different individual or pairs of those outputs. The terminology and setup is slightly different in different DAWs, but AFAIK they all will permit this. After those interface outputs are assigned as inputs in the Patch System, you can set up your Brauerized processing within the Patch System. You now make your changes for individual tracks by assigning them to different buses/ auxes in your DAW.

    • @FlockAudio

      The Tegeler Konnektor is a different form of analog routing design compared to PATCH with different features and I/O. Sonically both options are transparent and provide reliable analog routing for users. Tegeler is a great a manufacturer and it really just comes down to the need of the user.

    • @FlockAudio

      Hi DF, The chains or empty slots aren't activate or representing any processing unless a digital rack is dropped into the slot space. So you can make them as short or as long as you have the amount of gear connected to your system! There are 32 Paths total! :)

    I have a question about hardware setup - with a regular patchbay the normalled connections you make when you hook your equipment to the rear are super important because this creates the basic patch workflow...how does this play out with Patch? Do I need to follow any kind of logic when connecting my ins/outs or it doesn't really matter since I can configure everything using the software?

    • @FlockAudio

    So, if I route my preamps' output as 'in' to a specific rack and have the output routed on the same rack to an analog output from my interface, would I still be able to route that delinked input to any other available rack detached from the delinked output, i.e., pulling it into a path by itself while still being able to use the delinked output later in the path or in another path entirely?
