I ride bmx and mountain bike as well, nowhere near half as good as Danny, but I've been struggling with injuries my entire life. My left knee is what kills me now, some days its a struggle to walk. Seeing Danny fight through his knee and lower back injury like this is a true inspiration for me. I've been in and out of treatment for several years and have not been able to pin point the source of my pain. Basically, just want to say thanks to Danny for making this video for me to see.
12:58 that talent is amazing, you see all these random people walking around, sitting and doing their thing. It is amazing how many people are missing out by not taking the two seconds to observe this crazy talent. I wish one day I will be so lucky to witness this caliber of skill just randomly somewhere. I will definitely take the time to watch and applaud.
Fantastic series. I like how they show the toll these sports take on the athletes' bodies while also taking a guy we admire and showing his recovery to hopefully get back to doing the amazing stunts we all love to see. Brilliant.
Mate, you have done something most can only dream of. My hat is tipped to you for it! The only thing I could say to you is... Know when to pull out! Nothing pains me more then to care for someone who can't care for their self.
After all this, the magic of Imaginate!! "Success is the ability to go from failure to failure w/o losing your enthusiasm."> Winston Churchill. Danny is the epitome of perseverance and dedication. Behold a special man.
I am not really a biker at all, but I'mr really into all sorts of extreme sports, and this video just amazed me one more time, what believing in yourself can do with you and your body, I am so looking forward to see the film!
He started my brother (16) into biking and trick riding. :) So far, my brother's gotten a broken collarbone and 1 ruined bike, but he's got a nice bunch of tricks to show for it!
Probably the most impressive i've heard is Mario Lemieux. Apparently he had back pain so bad he couldnt tie his own skates. Yet he was still scoring goals. Elite athletes put themselves through so much its hard to imagine
That's definitely not too late. I started riding bmx at 13, then basically just stopped caring about riding until I was 16. It's been a year since I started riding seriously and I progressed way faster than I though I would. As long as you have an actual interest in it and have knowledge of freestyle riding then go for it
Been watching you for years-your a top bloke and wish you a very rapid recovery so you can take the world by surprise even more! #thumbs up for master chief of the bike ! ;)
I think that Redbull need to promove a serie of How we can get this skill, with MackAskill as a teacher... Teaching us some techniques to be a good biker...
Danny needs to look into an artificial disc replacement in Germany. Stitching a tear in the disc will get him walking, but that disc will rip again with these major forces as he does bike tricks. Each timethe collagen fibers in the annulus rip it will herniate more and more. Too bad he was steered the path of microdiscectomy instead of a total disc replacement and he already let them burr the laminae in the back to access the disc (that weakens the facet joints). I had a similar problem with my L5/S1 (motocross in my case) and instead of patching it up I decided to replace it altogether into an artificial one. Believe it or not, but that place he went to, even though it is Hollywood, is not the best you can get. The US in general is not that good at spine care. I am nine weeks out of my ADR surgery and for a month already I have been riding my mountain bike like nothing ever happened. This is from me living on the floor in suicidal pain last year, mind you (I had totally destroyed my natural disc). I have been preaching about this procedure to all of my friends with back problems because an average US doctor doesn't even know about it (my doc didn't) and in Germany they have been pioneering the field for 20 years. Anyway, all good to Danny - he is a true champ and a great spirit!
Being a athlete is, such hard, work especially when its, your job skateboarding of my passion but not yet a career, hearing that you may have limits, is hard, but you gotta keep your body strong, exercise it. You only have one shot to fully recovery
Where can I buy a bike like this in the US? And what size of frame would I need? I'm 6'1. And how much would a starter bike cost? Any help would be great!
MacAskill's Imaginate - In the Balance - Ep 1 What kind of rims spokes does Hans' have/using at this time. I've seen a few other bikes with spokes like these in other videos.

The way he jumps a fence is the most remarkable thing I've ever seen anyone do on a bike, and that includes triple back flips.
As Three Days Grace would say..."It's not too late, it's never to late!"...never thought we would be quoting Three Days Grace until this very moment.

It's hard to imagine someone so incredibly skilled being injured. Get well Danny! You are the most amazing..
Bloody hell! Danny's hit the gym since Industrial Revolutions. The guy is stacked!

he has more grace, balance, and skill, then most professional athlete's, its taken a lifetime to hone those kinds of akills
i give him mad props for wearing a helmet. he isnt one of those people who think he is "badass" for not wearing one. awesome work bro.
He started my brother (16) into biking and trick riding. :) So far, my brother's gotten a broken collarbone and 1 ruined bike, but he's got a nice bunch of tricks to show for it!
Wasnt expecting redbull to show full on surgery. Awesome!
This guy is spectacular, there are things you can only see him do it. AWESOME!!!
I remember the "way back home" video, it got me subscribed to Redbull who just had about 20k subs at the time, amazing character!
Can't wait for ep 2! What an amazing person and talented rider :)))
Every elite level athlete is struggling with some ''body ailment''. What makes them extraordinary is that they work through/around it.
MASSIVE cast for this one!! Badass after badass after badass! Loved EP.1!!
Danny is a great person, wish he will get to his 110% potential soon.
Inspiring and awesome. Great cinematography and editing too! Mad props to everyone who put this together.

Really excited for this series! Hope There is a speedy recovery!

Hans "No way" Rey
Fucking LEGEND!
What I wouldn't give to be a room with Hans Rey, Gary Fisher, and John Tomac.
Been watching you for years-your a top bloke and wish you a very rapid recovery so you can take the world by surprise even more! #thumbs up for master chief of the bike ! ;)

I try, make it half a foot then fall into a ditch
Injury prevention is very important, not to mention safety equipment. Live life just protect your body so you can do it for the longest time.
Mr, MacAskill, I hope you will be able to recover from your back and other injury(s) and be able to continue your amazing riding!
Hope you get better Danny you are my bike hero and my bike legend

When he has only 1/2 the power he normally does he can still do things most people can only imagine.
I really admire this man. I wish i had gotten into trial biking, feels like 17 is to late :/
The Wolves by Ben Howard. One of my favourite musicians :P
