She NEVER sings songs the same way twice! As to what you should react to next, I know ppl have made suggestions but the order I would suggest (as a UK person who's been following her for a while) is: First, the Brit awards performance but also her winning the RECORD number/ her acceptances are available too, that's a nice little bundle. THEN her whole studio album ( it's generally more 'urban' but still not only one style), this will inform you a lot more about her history as it's very autobiographical. THEN after you've absorbed the album lyrics/feel some, the videos for Ice Cream Man and Escapism, then Montreux, THEN Genesis song followed by the Genesis video ( it's currently a stand alone single) and then whatevers left lol
For my taste, singing-wise (I mean singing, not skills!) she is deadly boring and her tone is (sorry) kind of ugly. This whole performance is overblown. I would prefer listening to Adelle anytime, although I am not a fan of hers. Much ado about (almost) nothing.
@@margusmagi6703 well, you may sit with your opinion, while RAYE will kill it at the GRAMMY's tonight... have fun!
@@Hundhammer Some remarks. Grammy`s as well as Oscars are not the place where will be established what will remain in the history of music/cinema. 2. Lara Fabian, one of the greatest female pop-singer ever, was never invited to Grammy`s. 3. I can recognize her skills, but high quality vocal skills is just one part of being artist...
@@margusmagi6703 interesting you mention Lara as well, I'm not an expert but quite familiar with her and really love some of her earlier performances, like Caruso, Adagio, Je suis malade and more... It's a shame she never appeared at the Grammy's, I've heard some rumors about the role of Céline and other stars and the US music industry in preventing her from making a real career in the US, it's a shame... Anyway it's most artists' dream to be able to perform there, I'm sure Lara would have loved to go, and in older interviews you can see how bitter she is about the fact they didn't invite or nominate her ever... She may have settled with it by now, but tbh I've watched to some of her most recent performances and also listened to some tracks on her new album, she's not really my thing anymore, kind of boring, musically and vocally, though she still is writing good lyrics. For me RAYE is ticking all the boxes Lara ticked about 25 years ago, great stage presence, awesome musician and vocalist, brilliant lyricist and musically a real pioneer and frontrunner, her fusion of styles is so musical and exciting to me. And she's as great an emoter as Lara was, when she still had that fire... I'm confident some of RAYE's performances will be remembered for just as long as some of Amy's or Lara's or Adele's, but in the end it's irrelevant as none of us will be there to witness that, what really counts is the immense pleasure I'm getting from watching her now, in real time, and she's just about to begin, whereas Lara has more or less ended... Look man, I appreciate guys like Eric Sicard, who is an excellent guide to Lara's stunning body of work, and a true gentleman as well, he'd never ever run around on RAYE reactions spreading negativity... What is your driving force for doing that? Jealousy? Frustration? Just had a bad day, or are you always like that? Definitely not hypersensitive, just an ordinary troll I guess... Have a nice day anyway... My friend Aleksreacts does quite a lot of Lara and is on her new album currently, why not watch those and spread some love or share some useful information in case you got any? Peace out...
@@Hundhammer Well, I listened to some of Raye`s tracks / performances. My first impression was correct: much is built on the external effect and she enjoys that very much. And it is true: she is creating something new.
I’ve been typing RAYE’s name in every reactor’s comments for months, I’m glad people are finally finding her. Hope she wins Grammys tonight, she deserves them.
The two performances that really capture her talent and essence are her medley at the Brit Awards 2024 and her rendition of It's A Man's World Live at the Montreux Jazz Festival.
Ooooooh, the Brit medly 2024 is soooooo good(i recommend starting with that one. It has different genres included and even made her song 'escapism' jazz, which is not its original genre. It just really shows her vocal range and ability to do EVERYTHING); Honestly just listen to her whole studio album bc its like a story she tells and lots of the songs if not all are so relatable and just shows her vulnerability. I know it had to be so hard for her to be that honest and open with the world, and i love her for that and many more things. I also recommend worth it at london hilton Park Lane and its a mans world live at the montreux jazz festival they're all soooo goooood. I also subscribed and would love to see you watch those performances, and you're literally in my top best reaction channel. I've watched, so i will be coming back. Thx! Have a blessed day!
She’s incredible. Try ‘Worth it’ live at the London Hilton…absolute class! ❤
To play at Royal Albert Hall a performer is invited to play with their orchestra. She was released from a horrible record label that kept her from releasing her music for a decade while she wrote hits for many known artist. She is fully independent and has the record for an independent artist nominations and wins at the Brit Awards 2024 (she did a great medley there) winning 6 of the 7 awards (including Album Of The Year) she was nominated for.
Some minor corrections: She was not invited to play there and this is not a "house" orchestra of the venue but a successful private orchestra that plays in different settings (but they have played RAH before with other artists...). RAYE had approached them because she had long dreamed of performing with an orchestra and wanted to record a live version of her album with them. So she payed for the orchestra (the guy who's directing also wrote the orchestral arrangements), rehearsed with them, approached that choir, "The Flames Collective" and rehearsed with them tooand then brought it all to life on that very special evening, when she had bought a slot at the Royal Albert Hall. She had told her fans via social media to get there on a certain day and hour, if they wanted to be part of the live recording...
And: She released her debut album in 2023 and was nominated and won at the Brit Awards 2024, so that medley is from early 2024 as well...
Peace and love!
Ugh! She's amazing!! I'm so ready for her Grammy performance tomorrow!!
I love your react
All of them. 😂
She is real.
you should check her live performance "worth it" at london hilton on park lane
I think she would love that, definitely her vibe for a candlelight dinner... Fabulous performance, that ending! That beginning! The whole thing from start to finish, and her band is amazing as well, always on point, great musical understanding there... They really are a breath of fresh air...
@Hundhammer each of her performances is different, amazing and worth seeing!
@ Amen!
RAYE has a Tiny Desky concert that is amazing. Thank you for entering the RAYE rabbit hole and bringing such love and light. Many blessings ❤
I love Raye! She’s so talented on so many levels. I look forward to seeing you react to more from her 😃🇬🇧
The medley from the Brit awards is a must
I have waited so long for reactors I follow to find this track so thank you for this video. I recommend listening to this whole live album, it’s great! I would also love for you to react to I am A-WA by Lara Fabian please?
She came to the U,S and was on many talk shows including Kelly. She sang the same song with a smaller band and was wonderful too. My all time favorite!
More Raye reactions please!!!
You are in control Do what you want to It is your reaction channel And we will respect The path that you decide to take us on.😁 thanks much!
Other recommendations if you love Jazz definitely her performances at Montreaux Jazz Festival including her cover of its a man's world, also her Brit Awards performance a medley of four of her songs Ice Cream Man, Prada, Genesis, Escapism and she's also done a tiny desk concert four stripped back songs with her band Worth It, Five star hotels, Mary Jayne & Bus it down all tracks off her album, the thing about RAYE is her live performances are always different, always something new to hear, variations on a theme, Worth It is my favourite album track, her live performance at the Hilton Hotel of it another gem, she's about to release a collaboration single with Lisa & Doja Cat on 6th Feb Born Again which I'm also looking forward to seeing how they blend & show off their individual talents. This performance of Oscar Winning Tears is the first track off her album probably still my favourite of all just for the sheer joy, power & elegant gangster vibe, she recorded a full symphony version of My 21st century blues here, when you watch the whole concert it's really like watching a movie & takes you on a journey through her life as does the album, unfortunately it's only available on BBC iplayer in the UK but I think it's maybe being released elsewhere too, the choir is flames collective, for live performances her band & singers from flames collective are part of her set, they're like a family all so talented, I love live music there is nothing better
Oh my goodness yes, ALL of these recommendations are perfect. The Brit Awards last year, where she won more awards in one year than anybodyy ever has before (including Adele, Amy Winehouse, Coldplay) is a defining moment in acknowledging her pre-eminence!!
@@JoeBloggs-su8pz Can't wait to watch her performance at the GRAMMY awards tomorrow. What will she choose to do - and how? I'm so excited, more than for that Lisa / Doja Cat collab tbh... RAYE's at her best live and on her own / in lead, and she'll give it her all at the GRAMMY's... How many songs / time does an artist usually get there?
I love Raye. Dynamite certainly comes in small packages. She's amazing
lol, love that, never heard it but it's so fitting and funny, especially with her...
Nearly every reaction ive seen to this ends in wow 😂, and rightly so.
Oh this is exciting! Raye is hands down my favorite artist to have risen to prominence recently. She is an extraordinary musician and singer. The set she and her band played at Montreux Jazz Festival is mind blowing. “It’s a Man’s World” and “Mary Jane” are standouts and have individual videos here on UA-cam. The entire set is up on UA-cam as well and she has loads of other incredible performances and music videos as well. Her medley performance at the Brit Awards is also amazing! I hope to see more of Raye here 🖤
ETA - I often describe her as the love child of Amy Winehouse and Sarah Vaughan yet entirely modern and entirely Raye. That is the highest compliment from me as Amy & Sarah are 2 of my all time favorite artists. For me, Raye is what has been missing from music. I feel blessed to be here at the beginning of her rise and reign
Great comment, fully agree!
Next raye song I would suggest is Its a mans mans mans world Live at Montreux Jazz Festival, it is breathtaking
You’re doing my girl Raye. I had to come back after not seeing you for months!
Great first choice to listen to this amazing singer. 100k amazing.
Great reaction video. RAYE is unbelievable. Please please go and watch the full concert (BBC recording on BBC iPlayer - if you can get this) - the full concert will bring you to teras (did me - 60yr old man in UK). Thank you for sharing this.
She is not was nominated for 3 Grammys! She will definitely win!
She’s special
RAYE - The Thrill Is Gone. (Mercury Prize 2023)
Great choice

Hey Christi, congrats on 100.000 subs (the "winner" is not me, I've been around for longer...). And your intrudiction to RAYE to celebrate that milestone, no better way! I came back to thank you again for the wonderful stream, and to leave some remarks I couldn't make during the live chat or that might have been lost:
You'll learn more about her and her story as we go, as she's one of the most honest and lyrically gifted artists I've seen in a while, so her songs are always individually real and universally relatable. This one, as she said in interviews, is about a guy whom she trusted and was about to fall in love with. That jerk put knockout drops in her drink and then abused her, when she confronted him afterwards he first tried to deny it all, and when he saw he couldn't get away with that started to cry and tell her her loved her. On the studio version this song ends with some spoken word by her: "And after his Oscar winning performance I left the room and never saw him again." - So far for this song, there's much more to come, very deep well... Anyway, I'm trying to keep this short, so just some ideas where to go from here:
Next should be her incredible medley at the Brit Awards, you will get a better feeling for who she is as a human and as an artist, her stylistic range and versatility.
After that the order is not really relevant anymore, just follow your intuition, some of these have already been suggested in the comments. Random order, does not indicate any preference, all are great recordings, different as they may be:
- Worth It live at the London Hilton
- Genesis MV
- Tomorrow's GRAMMY performance (no idea what that'll be, but it will be great without any doubt, and brand new...)
- I already mentioned the incredible set at Montreux, outstanding cover of Man's World there, but all the rest (originals from her album, not all, one or two older songs too) is fire as well, but Man's World is absolutely epic!
- Someone mentioned and I also love dearly her Tiny Desk Concert, such an intimate and lovely set and setting, a real treat...
I need to omit so many more great songs and covers, but it would only overburden you now, this is more than enough for a start, and new things will happen after the GRAMMY's. I hope she'll manage to bring out a new album by the end of the year... It was awaited earlier, but last October, on her 27th birthday, her car got stolen, and in the booth she had all of her songwriting books she had been working on for years. She apologized to her fans on Insta "It's my birthday, and my car got stolen..." and said this meant "no new album anytime soon"... :( - but as we've seen, all of that shit she went through made her only stronger, I'm sure the follow-up to her debut will be even more spectacular...
Peace and love from BavaRAYEa! (You may know me from your reactions to AJ or Diana Ankudinova, or Lara Fabian...discovered RAYE only last summer, she's a beast! Of course in the most beautiful way...) Dominik (you pronounced that right, ...nick.)
Great reaction Christi. What an amazing production. Check out her Brit Awards performance and you will see her other music styles. Stunning. x
Royal Albert hall is always a humungous event with an orchestra. From Shirley Bassey to Cynthia Erivo.
Try the Brit awards medley or her S.N.L. performance. Love from England
Thank you for your great reaction.
@@Rosannasfriend HI! 👋 sending you much love, friend. Great to hear from you. 😘
i don't know if this has been answered but the vocalist on pmj's "dream on" is morgan james. classically trained (juilliard), has appeared on broadway, numerous albums, etc...first time to your channel. love your reaction style. raye drew me to you. i think she's fantastic. thanks for a fun 45+/- minutes.
Something else that would seem to fit your tastes would be the black and white video of "Creep" by Postmodern Jukebox feat. Haley Reinhart. ("Creep" is a Radiohead cover).
When did you reach 100k? Congratulations Lady! 🎇🎆🏆
Ice Cream man in the BBC live lounge is wonderful and heartbreaking
Yes it is also Body Dysmorphia. It shows her vulnerability especially her Royal Albert Hall performance. I cried when I watched it.
I’m sure you remember reacting to the beautiful singer Faouzia a few years ago, it’s been too long since you’ve been back to her. At 9:00 you talk about how Raye’s former label refused to release her debut album. Well, the same thing has been happening to Faouzia , and laid last year she announced that she is now an independent artist, and she is no longer with a label. They were always having some excuse that she didn’t have enough of an audience or that her latest songs were not big enough hits and they delayed her album for about six years I think. So she has become huge on her own using social media for years and she reached her biggest success last year when she went on the Chinese singing competition “the singer“ so now she is a a darling in China. So the time is ripe for her to go out on her own and release her own music and we’ll see if she’ll have a comparable success as Raye. You’re much better off doing things on your own than you are letting somebody else hold you back.
Please check out a swedish power trio called Dirty Loops and their amazing singer Jonah Nilsson. Start with ”Rock You” Hit me”, ”Follow the light” (collaboration with Cory Wang and the Wong Notes and then keep going down the rabbit hole 😊
“Genesis” written by Raye is a masterpiece. 2 years to complete this little marvel. shocked by the music, the text and the video. ua-cam.com/video/aOX8gyc27K4/v-deo.html
Totally agree... mind-blowing!!!
Definitely, yet I feel Christi should first watch her Brit Awards medley, then Genesis. She'd better understand the place where this is coming from, and also have that little teaser RAYE sneaked into the medley which was recorded way before the final release of Genesis... Great suggestion anyway! Peace and love
Please do Escapeism oder Genesis next her song are so deep and meaningful
Genesis (darkness into the light) ❤
🙏💜
Have a look at the stripped back performance: 'RAYE performs "Escapism" (acoustic) | The Other Songs Live at KOKO' ua-cam.com/video/5aJzV0w8QXw/v-deo.html
Please react to her middle live at brits awards Please
A brilliant programme is her interview with Louis Theroux, where she talks about the se ual threats from music producers etc that caused her to break a one-act, and do this NY herself,.and succeed .go RAYE
Christi, an interview with Marcela Bovio (as someone suggested during the live reaction today) would be very nice. You already heard her sing, from operatic to growling. Arjen Lucassen is my (almost local) musical hero, but there are already quite a number of interviews with him on UA-cam reaction channels, so coming up with original questions may be a stretch. There are only a few interviews with Marcela and the interview would probably be more about the voice and singing techniques. Don't know which would get you the most views though.
Reaction starts at 11:02
Raye is wonderful, a rare artist who is almost always better live.
Have you heard Asaf Avidan? I'dove your thoughts on his unique voice. In A Box II Your Anchor is hugely artistic.
Can you please do another song by Ren please?
@@rodgersmith6891 YES! Which one?
@TheVoiceLoveCo Depends what you are looking for. Want more of the theatrical? Try "The tale of Jenny and Screech" (the complete, uncut 13 minute version) or the "Money game" trilogy (particularly "Money Game part 3." Want smooth singing? Try "Back on '74/Message in a bottle retake". Want to see how he amazingly harmonies with others? The check out "Blind Eyed" (MC Sessions version) with Sam Tomkins or "Chalk Outlines" (live) or "How to be me" (live) with Chinchilla
